I noticed you quoted my review of Pino Silvestre. I appreciate your clarification regarding the "Scots Pine" - I didn't know that. However, unless you were addressing my capitalization of the second word in the name, silvestris, my comment stands as true. The Wikipedia article on this particular pine goes on to state that this type of evergreen was commonly used as the Christmas tree here in the states. I wonder if it is used as such in Scotland, too? Cheers.

    Hi Saintpaulia,
Yep, vanilla is one of my most favourite scents. In fact my quote is actually something one of my co-workers said when I entered the room.
Wouldn't believe it was a body oil, thought I had eaten marshmallows! LOL
    Cheers to you Breck!

Hi! Depending on the outside temperature I wear different scents. And I like to mix them in my way.
    Thank you for your message.

I saw you had Thé Rose Bulgare on your wishlist - you probably already know this, but 30 Roses is selling 30 ml decants that would probably last you a while.

    I did!

But my poor husband hurt his hand at work just enough to cause a bit of finger swelling. It did not occur to him to remove his wedding ring until too late; now we're icing and compressing it in the hope that it won't tighten enough to reduce circulation. After 19 years i would be sad to have to cut the ring off.

A Beginner’s Guide to Buying a Fragrance on a Limited Budget - Part 1

by Saintpaulia on 19th July 2011 at 07:21 PM

I became interested in fragrances last February, five months ago. I have a very limited budget (almost non-existent!) for purchasing scents, and I live in a very small, provincial city. I mention these things to qualify what kind of a beginner I am. I have literally been “just starting out”.

My Wardrobe is composed of 47 small samples with only one bottle in my Collection, Molinard’s Vanilla (a used 120 ml. bottle with about 75-80 ml. still in it). I also have a small assortment

A Beginner’s Guide to Buying a Fragrance on a Limited Budget - Part 2

by Saintpaulia on 19th July 2011 at 07:12 PM

The samples duly arrived and I tested all three. My reviews of these perfumes appear on my long-running thread in the Just Starting Out forum,i.e. “New Member Continuation”. I will not repeat them here. I will say though that I was immediately, strongly attracted to the basic violet scent. The Serge Lutens product was not really a violet soliflore and was quickly excluded from further consideration. The two remaining violets, however, were very much soliflores. They were very closely related

Original or Classic Fragrances - some philosophical thoughts

by Saintpaulia on 9th June 2011 at 04:47 AM
Just this week I received a set of three perfumes I bought from a Basenoter: L'Origan, Emeraude and L'Aimant, all by Coty. These were purchased as a birthday present to my wife (June 11th). I leapt at the opportunity to acquire these three classic and historic fragrances in their older formulations. While I cannot be sure of the exact year or years in which these three Cotys were made, one can tell from the packaging and other clues, that they were made in the 1970s. I trust and hope that that is

Nota Bene: Blog entries chronology

by Saintpaulia on 1st June 2011 at 02:27 AM
Just a note to point out that the blog entries are sort of "backwards". In my world I am used to thinking of older things as coming first and then the next one is a bit earlier, until finally at the bottom is the latest entry. The way these blogs are published, the opposite occurs. I wonder if most people will have no problem figuring this out, whereas for me, it would be confusing!

I would not have had to do this if the blogs were not limited to a certain number of words.

New Member Trials continued

I do go slow. But as I've said before on this same thread, I have a low tolerance for perfumes, which is kind of odd for someone who is focusing so on them! But that said, I don't have the mental-emotional state necessary to "process" a scent the way I want to - everyday. I may even go a whole week without trying a new one. As you pointed out Nevermore, one can work with a given scent every day, but the same one. For instance, I have been wearing small amounts
