One representative of Spanish perfumery at this year’s Pitti was Oliver & Co, a Madrid based perfumer who also specialises in candles. Oliver Valverde only began selling perfume last year after a career in music: “I used to be a DJ and a sound technician, but I have always been fascinated by smell. I live in Madrid, but I am actually from Andalucia. Always growing up I was smelling everything like the smell of figs, the tree and vineyard of my father's workshop, the delicate scent of jasmine. The exciting orange flowers, the smell of fresh coffee, freshly baked bread, nail polish, wood pencils, candy violet, scented drawer bags from my grandmother. Then I became a perfume lover!”
Oliver says he takes inspiration from all these formative smells. On show for the first time was a new candle in a beautifully carved marble container. “My father had a business carving marble, he wasn’t famous, but he was very well known in Andalusia. Sometimes when I was a child he used to invite me to come with him to learn about the business. In his workshop he used this special glue when he needed to stick marble together. It smells like styrax. It’s a really special smell. This candle is about that memory.”
Three new perfumes have been launched for the Pitti fair described as:
(Notes include: Labdanum, Styrax, Vetiver, Ambergris, Musk, Osmanthus, Orange peel, Clove Bud.)
(Tolu, Elemi, Myrrh, Labdanum, Opoponax, Jasmine Sambac, Somali Incense, Benzoin Siam, Coffee Latte, Australian Fire Tree, Rooibos, Mace, Tonka Bean, Star Anise.)
Mousse II Aquatic- Peppery-Vigorous-Luminous-Clean-Fleeting-Energetic

These three join the collection released last year: Mousse and La Colonia. The candle range consists of: Tuberosen, Santalum, Ladanom, Fig Pulp, Tabacle, Henolia and Ambarina.
