Discount Store Lidl Releases G.Bellini X-Bolt Male Fragrance

Discount store Lidl has today released a new male fragrance in the UK called G.Bellini X-Bolt. The perfume costs £3.99 for 50ml and is the second recent foray into fragrance after the release of Suddenly Madame 'Glamour' for women. The women's perfume attracted some attention amongst perfume lovers who found that there were many similarities between Suddenly Madame Glamour and Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle. The two fragrances were blind-tested independently by expert John Bailey, founder of The Perfumer's Guild and now Chairman of the British Society of Perfumers, who found that the Lidl perfume was preferred by the majority comparing the two.

G.Bellini X-Bolt is made in Germany. The notes are described by the company as:

Top - Fresh lemon and limes, the aniseed note of tarragon

Middle - Fresh Fruity apple with a flowery aspect

Base - Vanilla, woody notes and a dry balsamy character.

A blind smell was conducted with men and women on behalf of Lidl by the PR company Wall to Wall, at No. 5 Cavendish Square, Mayfair on 1st of June. According to Lidl:

"G.Bellini X-Bolt beat leading designer brands up to ten times the price in a blind test by 108 people. Consumers preferred Lidl’s fragrance in the blind test, choosing it over Dior Homme, Hugo Boss Bottled, David Beckham Homme, and D&G The One as the perfume they would most want to buy.

In the test, Lidl’s own label fragrance scored an average of 6.2 out of ten. Beckham scored 4.8, Dior 5, and D&G and Boss scored 5.6. Male participants described the fragrance as “expensive smelling”, while female participants lauded the “fresh masculine fragrance”.

Georgina Hall, Lidl's spokesperson said:

"The women's perfume took off because of on-line input. People started tweeting and putting it on Facebook. The whole effect made it go viral, so it's still a really good seller.'

A limited edition Madame Glamour 'Diamond' is to be released in time for Christmas.

      apple is generally very cheap-smelling to my nose, and i don't imagine it's difficult to beat those four fragrances in general. but i love the idea of ultracheap.

      the above is only reconfirmation that we, as customers, are only/or mostly paying for the brand, advertising and packaging. that's the true value of most perfumes on the market today (high street generally speaking): £3.99! case closed.

      I'm not gonna hold my breath with this one, I smelled the female scent they sell and it's like battery acid. Yet, people are lapping it up because its only £3.99

      I was so curious about Suddenly Madame Glamour, so today I went to the nearest Lidl and tried it. My verdict : the only thing it lacks is the double C on the box and 2 extra digits at its price. Extremely close to coco mademoiselle, I 'd say friendlier than the original, with a spicy glow from mid to base and good longevity. Even my wife (who owns coco, but rarely wears it) admits that it is really good for a super market fragrance. Unfortunately the whole fragrance industry (niche and mass market) is built over logos, advertising and human's need to consume more than he actually needs.

      Been in Lidl, x-bolt is a carbon copy of boss bottled. You can hardly tell the difference, i wear out and about and i get complements. And for the price of a pint of beer or glass of wine! What's not to like !

      i guess they're running out of interesting reports and interviews / things to say. you would never find this kind of article on fragrantica. over there, they report on fragranze 10 firenze, new releases from laboratoro olfattivo (rosamunda), histoires de parfums (veni vidi vici), jovoy (rouge assassin, les jeux sont faits), lubin (korrigan, akkad and galaad), just finished reading an interesting article about the perfume museum in barcelona. over here on basenotes, we read and talk about the latest perfume 'release' from lidl. i rest my case.

      why??... for going over there when i want to read more interesting stuff? i didn't say it's better. they have their negative points as well, nobody is perfect. i just find basenotes is going slightly downhill with their up-to-date reports and interviews and press releases. they have some catch up to do. if everyone would say/claim is perfect and would never check out their competition then we would have a 'slight' case of laziness and 'resting on our laurels', which is what i think it happens right now with/on basenotes. that, plus the recent downtimes (more than i care to mention) make my case.

      Basenotes reviewing Lidl offerings is doing the job of a perfume website & long may it continue. Now if it were to confine itself to being a snobbish perfume website, doubtless it wouldn't bother.

      absolutely!! it's an extremely important piece of information and i am extremely grateful to basenotes for reporting on it and bringing it to my attention. the lidl perfume release is quite big news and very important, and relevant i might add, to and in the perfume world. now, excuse me for cutting this short but i have to rush to lidl to buy their latest perfume release (as everybody knows, lidl is one of the most venerable and influential perfume houses in the world). tah tah for now.. i will come back with a detailed review after giving it a full and proper wearing (at least a couple if not three times, don't want to get it wrong).

      Unfortunately that is the truth! Most of us rarely even recognize good ingredients anyway. I can not be 100% sure about my knowledge of good ingredients for sure... and natural resources becoming more scarce we all have to go mostly for the synthetics anyway and than pay for the brand...:tongue:

      I smelled the Feminine Lidl fragrance and it really is far better than Mad.Coco (which I really can not stand anyway). The Lidl one is I`d say more rounded and smoother.

      In the US, we don't have Lidl, but we do have their primary competitor Aldi.

      From time to time, Aldi US has "special purchases" of everything from camping equipment to Android tablets. I think fragrances could be next...

      Even in Aldi-Hofer they have very good womens fragrance. My coworker smells very good so I asked her what is she wearing...some perfume from Aldi she said.
