Angela Flanders launches limited edition Breath of Hope

by Judith Brockless, 22nd January, 2014

Angela Flanders has created a new limited edition fragrance for Spring, Breath of Hope.

Following on from her previous experience of linking poetry with perfume, and inspired by the poem (below) that writer and fragrance critic Vicci Bentley dedicated to her, Angela has captured the moment of discovering Spring’s first snowdrops, traditionally known as ‘Flowers of Hope’.

A green floral fragrance, Breath of Hope opens with opens with a fresh and vibrant accord of lily of the valley and galbanum, whilst the heart combines frankincense and myrrh, which evoke ‘a cool and pensive calm’. The base consists of oakmoss and guaiac wood to recreate the earthy feel of a frosty February day.

Breath of Hope is a limited edition of only fifty bottles of 50ml eau de parfum at £95 each, and launches in store and online on 1st February, ‘this green-craving month’.

Breath of Hope

Pale rays barely melt hoary hedgerows, yet

this green-craving month has a new light. Here

in the churchyard, mothered by shushing yews,

February’s flowers. Amongst silent stones

flocked with lichen and lifelines, their brightness

transcends leafmould. Still, a perfumer must

kneel close to catch this fleeting formula.

There should be urgent, sappy galbanum

she notes. Myrrh’s cool stealth. Sweet, carnal lily

(youth’s shameless imperative) and the smooth,

final cradle of dark, resinous woods…

A keen, north-born gust leafs her pocket book;

reminder of ice, this not-yet-spring day.

She stiffens, craves a more forgiving drift

...a breath of hope? A swathe of white heads nod.

This sounds like something I'd like. But I'm guessing it is only available in England. And probably no samples?

Ok, great. Do you think samples are available now, before the release date? I suppose I should call on the phone.

It may be easier to email, kumquat - the product hasn't been released yet.

Good luck, kumquat - it's on my test list too!
