Sarah McCartney creates fragrance for REEK inspired by 18th c. Jacobite women

by Judith Brockless, 23rd November, 2016

Damn Rebel Bitches is the first fragrance from Edinburgh-based REEK. perfume.

Containing notes of blood orange, clary sage, malt, pink peppercorn and hazelnut, Damn Rebel Bitches is mixed in memory of eighteenth century Jacobite women and has been called the 'first feminist fragrance'.

It was created in collaboration with Sarah McCartney of 4160Tuesdays, using scents that would have been familiar to the women and which they would have used in their daily lives - for example, malt was chosen because brewing was seen as a woman’s job, while hazelnuts were an integral part of the Highland diet at the time.

Damn Rebel Bitches is vegan and cruelty-free, hand-mixed and hand-poured, the bottle packed in a drawstring cotton bag inside a reusable wooden box, all at £75 for 50ml.

"using scents that would have been familiar to the women and which they would have used in their daily lives - for example, malt was chosen because brewing was seen as a woman’s job"

PR is going too far. Too. Far.

Trying too hard. Being a rebel does not mean you have to use curse words. Sad that women think this kind of stuff is empowering, it's really not. No interest in a the self proclaimed "first feminist" perfume. Would not promote this with my girls and def not in my house.

I belong to the Tuesday Facebook Group(we get codes money off quite a bit 30% sometimes.), so I remember when she went up to Scotland to work with REEK to create this. It was their brief and they chose the name, I find the name fun, not sure where the cursing is? Its actually one of the fund raising perfumes Sarah creates for others. Never smelt it, not a fan of orange.

Anastasia Beaverhausen you need to try more as quite a few have no raspberry jam, Shazzam, Captured By Candlelight and Paris 1948 are a few.

I actually own several, including Shazam! which I love and contributed to the crowd funding project of the latest group, Captured by Candlelight being my pick of the bunch. Dirty Honey is probably my favourite of the house, although I enjoyed several of the Crimes of Passion series. That being said, the overwhelming majority of the main line does have a fruity, jammy base which really isn't my thing.

Apologies if that sounded bitchy, I'm actually a bit of a SM fangirl and I really want to see her and 4160 Tuesdays do well but the syrupy fruit concoctions have to go - she's better than that!
