Ciro – a brand from the twenties – is reborn (news from Pitti 2018)

14th September, 2018

Rainer Diersche, founder of Linari, has launched a new brand, Ciro. Well, technically re-launched a brand, as Ciro has its roots in the 1920s.

The company was originally founded in 1921 by Brooklyn-born, Jacob S Weidhopf – the son of German immigrants. Launched as the Guy T. Gibson Company, Weidhopf and his business partner act as US importer for french house, Caron.

Two years later Weidhopf decides to create his own brand, Ciro, and partners with Gabilla in France to launch Ptah, Chevalier de la Nuit, Le Chypre du Nil and Maskée. The company grew successful and opened a base in Paris.

However in 1961, after over thirty launches the company launched its last perfume: Panorama. Until now.

The company say:

"Parfums CIRO awakens to new life again. As an homage to the CIRO brand and its legacy, these classic compositions served as inspiration for today’s perfumers who have not only reinterpreted each fragrance but have also retained the names of the almost 100-year-old perfume creations."

The new Ciro have launched six fragrances based on the original creations:

Chevalier de la Nuit

Chevalier de la Nuit is described as “A spicy composition which also shows a spirited sharpness” includes notes of Lemon, Bitter Orange and Patchouli in the head; Jasmin Absolute, Hawaii-Vetiver and Clove in the heart; with base notes of Musk, Eucalyptus, Sandalwood and Vanilla.

Le Chypre du Nil

Le Chypre du Nil “celebrates the abundance, the dazzling opulence and the colorful splendor of the Nile delta, whose richness and fertility is born from the river.” Top notes include Bergamot, Sichuan Pepper, Elemi and Wormwood; heart notes include Turkish Rose, Dried Fruits and Orris; while the base features Patchouli, Amber, Suede and Musk.

Floveris “unites all the beautiful flowers that are considered symbols of love and creates, in a dreamlike way, an imaginative and beguiling bouquet with a vibrant and inescapable radiance.” Notes include Bergamot, Mandarin and Pink Pepper in the head; Turkish Rose, Mimosa Absolute, Violet and Peony in the heart; and Virginian Cedarwood, Cashmere Wood, Amber and Musk in the base.

L’Heure Romantique

L’Heure Romantique is described as “a modern bouquet, centered around a yearningly radiant wildflower beauty, a violet-blue iridescence like a watercolor.” Damascena Rose, Orchid, Pink Grapefruit and Watermelon feature in the head, while the heart includes Lily of the Valley, Vetiver, Iris and Cyclamen. The fragrance is finished off with White Musk and Vanilla.

Language creates worlds. It moves, touches, changes and captivates in stories and history. Its god is Ptah, the ancient Egyptian god, the father of the gods and the source of all life.

Notes for Ptah include Bergamot, Sage, Ginger, Elemi, Incense, Geranium, Orris, Vetiver, Tonka, Vanilla and Leather.

Maskée is a “seductress whose sensuality is derived from her versatility: The foreignly exotic sweet nectar of ylang blossoms meets precious, scarlet-velvety damascena roses while powdery-majestic iris meets the beguiling appeal of creamy jasmine.” Additional notes include: Tonka Absolute, Heliotrope, Honey, Vanilla, Cedarwood and White Musk.

Each are available from as 100ml Eau de Parfum.

I have seen bottles of the oldies on ebay, but never smelled anything. Does anybody know if the old stuff was interesting?
