by Grant Osborne, 15th June, 2011

Perfumer Alec Lawless, of FiFi Award nominated Essentially Me will be making a rare trip to New York in July to teach two perfumery courses at The Open Center, 22 East 30th Street, New York , NY 10016.

Details are as follows:

World-renowned British Perfumer, Alec Lawless of Essentially Me, is making a rare visit to New York to teach his unique natural perfumery courses.

Weaving together stories of the history of perfume – from the court of Cleopatra to the salons of Paris - with anecdotes of adventures seeking out the rarest natural ingredients, Alec takes students on a truly special olfactory journey.

With a choice of two courses to follow, you will work with some of the finest natural aromatics available: from the ethereal floral essences of jasmine, osmanthus and gardenia; to the balsamic frankincense and benzoin. You will learn to link with herbs and woods – thyme, chamomile, sandalwood, cedarwood; to mix spices like caraway and nutmeg; and introduce intrigue with agrestic beeswax and hay, maverick patchouli, blackcurrant bud or cocoa.

A gifted and enthusiastic teacher, Alec’s classes provide students of all levels with the opportunity for guided experimentation, lively discussion and access to his unrivalled expertise.

Alec says:

“If the flower fairy is going to fly she needs two wings - one is technical and the other is creative and imaginal. Once these are understood our creative energy is free to play and have fun blending. “
