Review of the re-issue in 2010 by Gorilla Perfume, previously B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful: 1000 Kisses Deep is Gorilla's osmanthus scent, accompanied by plenty of myrrh and labdanum. The overall effect, strangely, is of burnt caramel with a mandarin 'winning streak' to continue the Leonard Cohen reference begun with the title. I wonder if the fragrance would've been better with less citrus; currently it feels like a distracting bright light is trying to seep through a velvet curtain.

Much better than I expected, given its rather precious name. Phase 1 is a very distinctive orange marmalade smell (as others have noted). It is very orange-y and it also has a syrupy quality which is more in terms of weight or texture than sweetness. Phase 2 is a complex chord of floral/earthy notes with soapy and slightly fresh ones. The overall effect is of a slightly creamy, earthy flower. Phase 3 brings out some wood and resinous notes. Overall, quite an interesting scent. Not heavy or excessively sweet, and worth a try. I'm neutral on it because it isn't my style but I don't see anything wrong with it.

This was instant winner for me. I love orange scents on me but sometimes they can be overpowering, this really is such a gentle blossom smell it really feels like you are out for a walk on a spring day rolling in the blossom with the one you love! Later in the wear I get macaroons and powder which also smells yummy. I find I relate to Simon Constantine's perfumes! Since I have been learning about perfumes I can get very overwhelmed with complex scents and it bothers me when I can't pick out all the notes! But I like that with his scents I know what I'm smelling! It's probably because I am a novice but I find him very inspirational.

ln my view the best perfume that B Never too Busy produced. lt's a rich blend of osmanthus, labdanum & myrrh, which smells just like orange marmalade, yet has a surprising sophistication & depth. lt has wonderful sillage & lasts a very long time. l find it works best in cooler (not cold) weather, making it a good autumn or spring daytime fragrance for me.

I found the orange note reminded me of organic cleaning products with the combination of the resins. Not a pleasant association for a perfume.

Any chypre floral that has heaps of praise catches my eye, and my eye has been on this one for a long time. Now that I'm wearing it, my first impression is...

It smells like bee pi$$.

I've found that Labdanum and myrrh need to be approached cautiously, as they can become too 'ooh hey' rather quickly (as in too much sweetness).

To be fair, I'm quite sure this is marketed towards the younger consumer, and in all honesty it's what I would have reached for when going to see Milli Vanilli in concert.

But Baby, you can forget my number with this one.

On opening the little bottle I briefly got a whiff of something a bit like 4711. I applied some to my wrist and got a thin sort of lemon smell. Very quickly a strange plasticy or burnt note emerged. Just as I was thinking that this is just another B Never too Busy clunky, clumsy mix, it matured into something very interesting - something sweet, beautiful, delicate and haunting. It made me think of peat fires and of my Granny and Grandad who were married for a very long time (looks like the perfumer's aim worked then, looking at the site). Ivy plants also came to mind for some reason (?). Once again, that B Never too Busy staple, jasmine, made a late appearance. Overall, I'd summarise this as an interesting and unique scent, just not one that I would want ON me. (Sorry, can't do italics here!). I'm wavering between neutral and thumbs down, OK I think it has a bit more sophistication than some of the other scents from B so neutral it is.

A rich, heady, myrrh-infused scent designed to symbolise a long and happy marriage (and the name comes from a song by Leonard Cohen). There is also a lovely, fruity, osmanthus note and a soapy dry-down that makes it a good alternative masculine.

I love orange notes in perfumes, but have had trouble finding one with just the right dose: most either smell like a basket of fresh oranges (very nice on the table but not on my clothes), or hide the orange behind stronger notes. Not so in 1000 Kisses Deep.

1000 Kisses Deep, Eau des merveilles, and Elixir des Merveilles share a slightly bitter but very fresh, unsweetened orange note that I find scrumptious.

In Eau des Merveilles the wood notes, especially cedar, take over on my skin. Too dry!

In Elixir des Merveilles gooey vanilla and caramel end up candying the orange. Too sticky!

In 1000 Kisses deep, labdanum, myrrh and osmanthus give the blend all the depth promised in the name: Juuuuuuuuust right!

The orange is there, from beginning to end, but the wise selection of elegant complementary notes steers it in a warm, sophisticated, grown-up direction that takes 1000 Kisses Deep from daytime to evening. Modest sillage. Lasts at least 5 hours on my skin.

The homage to a Leonard Cohen song is for me a huge plus, as are the thoughtful attention to detail in the packaging.

Since I wear many different scents, I am disappointed that so many come in only 100 ml bottles. Again, B Never too Busy to Be Beautiful is the exception. The company seems to understand the financial, aesthetic, and practical needs of its many perfumista clients. You can choose a mini body spray for under 10 pounds, small atomizer, a small bottle, a large bottle, a pomander, or even a scented fan.

I am smitten with 1000 kisses deep, and am quickly falling in love with B Never too Busy.
