Beautiful scent by Jean-Claude Ellena. Angeliques Sous La Pluie opens with a tremendously invigorating green/herbal accord that must be the angelica. Then some cumin appeared as it does in other scents from Ellena like Declaration, which resembles BO. Oh no, this is not looking as good as I thought... Luckily, Ellena balances the cumin much better here than he has in many other scents where it is a great off-putting distraction, allowing the angelica to still dominate and mix with a very nice pink pepper supporting note. At the base, I get primarily cedar, and JC Ellena definitely knows how to do cedar right. Longevity and projection are both regrettably below average. All this is quite minimalistic, subtle and rather inspired. I understand the negative comments related to the pricing; that is indeed a hard one to take considering how minimalistic the scent is. I guess sometimes for a niche scent created by a master nose like Ellena, that is the price of admission. With his best efforts in Terre d'Hermes and Eau de Campagne, Angelique Sous La Pluie is right behind those greats and is highly recommended if you can afford it. 4 stars out of 5.

No, French Lover is not the Concentree version of this scent. I suspect this is the absolute limit Mr. Elena would allow this scent to be concentrated. No doubt Mr. Malle pushed for more concentration and he would not do it. So, Mr. Malle got someone else to do it with French Lover, but it is not this scent. This is a magnificent creation and while it does not have sillage, it does have longevity but close to the skin. I don't care if others can smell it; I can, and it is what I want my skin to smell like - clean but still animal - like the tee shirt of a good friend. Wear this when you don't want to "wear" anything - it is more a skin enhancer than scent. I want what JCE designed and I want to understand his intentions. If the scent is low keyed but just right who cares? This is just right - enjoy it for yourself and put it places you would not dream of putting it. If someone gets close to you (real close) you will be handsomely rewarded. This is French Lover without all the chest hair.

Wet nettles, crushed coriander seeds , peppercorns. Just. Can only tell this is present by sniffing my clean skin and then keeping going over the scent. I can't justify my perfume pounds on something so ephemeral, so, whilst the scent is fine it's getting a thumbs down .

Fresh and crisp but woefully evanescent. ANGELIQUES SOUS LA PLUIE seems such a fancy name for a scent that reminds me, of all things...the laundry! Oh well, it's perfectly suited for the Emperor's new clothes...

I quite like ASLP and despites the name I think it's more a masculine. It opens with a crispy, bitter and somehow fresh angelica accord that quicklsy settles down turning the whole thing to be a clean and trasparent cedar-musc scent. Minimalistic and not very complex but absolutely pleasant and yet quite distinctive. My only disappointment is for the price. A serious contendant if just cheaper.

Jean-Claude Ellena, How can you make a composition so beautiful that only lasts on your skin for an hour at best? This is the cruelest sample I have ever tried. It starts off peppery and vibrant. I smell cedar woods in the background with a dewy garden in the foreground. I have never smelled angelica but the hint of a floral aspect makes this softer than other Hermes compositions I have smelled of Ellena's. This is really not all that different from the sur le nil in the feeling but I prefer this. Less fruit and less of a tangy transparent musk. BUT, this has half the staying power of sur le nil. Sadly, this is too intangible. Though, If this were double the strength I would buy a bottle and live in it.

A chilled glass filled with gin and waved in the general direction of France. Angéliques Sous La Pluie is like a Hermès Jardin in early April. The underlying juniper/angelicacumin/cedar arrangement is first-rate, but I enjoy the cleansing crispness of the coriander most, which seems to elicit and then quench a desire for itself with every breath. It's a shame these pleasures are curtailed for, as is too often the case with Ellena's work, the scent is maddeningly, unforgivably short-lived. However, if money were no object I'd be tempted to wallow in this stuff.
