I am surprised that this doesn't get more love. Perhaps my bottle has 'ripened' with age but I get a very honeyed musk, perfectly poised between clean and ever so slightly naughty: sweet, sun warmed skin. It lasts and lasts on my skin. No individual note stands out and I perceive the whole as a perfectly blended golden musk. Lovely.

A nice musk, velvety and smoky enough to convey the idea of a moon night (That's why the name is clair de musc insead of clair de lune, I believe). But still it hasn't the profound and beautiful style of other lUtens/sheldrake's masterpieces.

A pleasant musk in the clean genre à la Body Shop's "White Musk" shower gel. It's also what the pretty good girls at my high school used to smell like -- you know the type: the ones that convey that clinical kind of clean that's very American; like freshly shampooed hair. But having to reference the Body Shop and high-school girls shouldn't be happening, when the subject at hand is a Lutens scent. On the up side, the aldehydic note mentioned by one of the reviewers above is definitely there, and it is reminiscent of Chanel, but the powdery-clean No. 22 more than No. 5. I just recently smelled No. 22 again for the first time in years, and it is grand (and it was a 15-/20-year-old bottle), whereas this one is merely pleasant.

Clair de musc is clearly and mostly a musk scent. I have never smelled such bold musk since my childhood. Supposed to have some other notes but when i force myself i can hardly define some neroli, iris and sandalwood. the musc note in t is clear and loud, Some how cool and more aldehydic than being animalic. The scent is for musk lovers and not anyone else i suppose.

Clair de Musc smells to me exactly like Baghari. Which I like very much, only I have two names here for the same smell. When I smell my wrist now there's also a very clear redolence of Chanel n°5 Eau première. Well, a pleasant, feelgood smell, all in all nothing "special".

I am sure that Serge Lutens won t sell in US as here in Europe (where Spice-Oriental etc sells more). I used to have a small sample of this and was trying it each time I wanted to smell a different thing.
Serge Lutens collection is completely a new discovery to perfumes. It is strong enough to change your point of view. I am not a fanatic of musc, but I keep on trying this on me only for myself.
It is strong and long lasting as others.
The bottles are always masculine.

I agree that this is a simple musk, but am surprised by how dismissive some of the other reviews are. I am a musk lover and really enjoy this. It is is no MKK, or Helmut Lang EDP, but it is nice, airy, yet sphisticated and distinctive musk. Perfect for occasions where you want to make a statement without screaming too loud.

Strangely, Clair de musc's openimg on on me is a peppery rose that's very similar to Caron's Parfum Sacre, except it's a much more quiet and subdued scent than PS. However, as it dries down it the pepper note subsides and a mild, slightly floral and peachy note slowly emerges to take it's place alongside the now musky rose. This is a nice, well-behaved, "lady'like" musk and that's the problem for me; it's a little too quiet to show off it's personality.

Well, it's musk -- end of story. A refined light musk that would probably layer nicely with other fragrances, but musk all the same.

I tried this in a perfume shop, and thought it was so lovely that I ordered a full bottle. When the bottle arrived, though, I was disappointed. It smells of musc - strong musc - and not really anything else. I think that when I tried it in the shop I must have been wearing something else, or tried some other sample, that added to this, making is seem so nice and interesting. Now, though, I realise that it is not as good as the tender, delicate Musc Bleu by Il Profumo, and doesn't even come close to the absolutely gorgeous Royal Muska by M Micallef (why isn't this one on Basenotes?), and I regret buying in such haste. On the plus side, you only need a small amount and it does last well.
