I recently blind bought various colognes, as I am on a frenzy. Encre Noire was one of those, and I can say it is the most interesting scent i've smelt thus far. My nose is not that advanced yet, but my first thought when smelling this, is ink on paper. The ink note is exceptionally sharp, to my nose. Definitely the darkest scent i've experienced, and as people have said, "classy".

I don't know if I would wear this casually, but on a special occasion this would be golden. This is quality stuff for the price, and you can tell by the density. It doesn't invade, but it lingers and makes it's presence known. 4/5 for me.

Different, very different. This is not your average run of the mill frag folks. Dark woody and mysterious. Seems like a nice touch of Incense is implemented to make this a nice frag. Make sure you test on your skin before determining if you like it or not. Smells slightly different on paper. On my skin this is a winner. Like I always say "Don't cheat yourself, treat yourself".

An excellent smoky-woody vetiver with earthy elements and a well-balanced bitterness. Encre Noire is dark and damp, even musty, but at the same time its musky base manages to keep it somewhat polished and not overly dirty. All in all extremely pleasant and convincing, although lacking the elaborate sophistication of Sycomore and the radical depth of Route du Vétiver or Villoresi's Vetiver. Encre Noire is a classy confident choice and one of the most rewarding vetivers in its price range. Highly recommended!

the way this has been talked about, i half expected my shirt to be stained black with this beast. dark, dark imagery and examples punctuate the reviews here. this scent does indeed remind me of a calm, windless, and very dark night. someone cut some cedar on this night as well. deservedly called an evening scent, but enjoyed by the masses anytime. this one is something that should be tried by every male. -------------------------------------- edit Jan 2013---------------------------------------------- The full experience of EN was lost to me for years because it did a fantastic job of blowing my nose up. Women love it on me, but I also assumed some degree of flirtation with that assessment. Over the weekend I was pulling my shirt on and got my first smell of the stuff without being bombed out by the opening. What I could discern years ago, as you read above, was fairly glowing. What I add is a comment on the quality of the vetiver: this is outstanding. Depending on chance, the vetiver goes dry or green and often seems to alternate. Also, the woods may sweeten on occasion which some may equate with vanilla. Still recommend it to anyone.

Leave in Japan, Women love it, I love it! Tried other Vetivers and this one is my number one! Dark, mysterious, spicy! Unique! The funny part is, first time when smell it can remember felt like had burned tyre around me, now so addicted to it:-) just do not overspray it! Great longevity on my skin:-) best Vetiver of all!

Vetiver and wood - that is what it is on my skin in a nutshell. Deep, dark, and with synthetic undertones. An unusual scent, with decent silage, projection, and four hours of longevity.

Pros: Vetiver, which I love.

Cons: None

I blind bought Encre Noir about two months ago. I have two other Lalique fragrances and I love them. Encre Noir did not dissapoint me at all. As a matter of fact, it has become one of my all time favorite scents. I love the smell of vetiver and this one has lots of it. It is sofisticated, mysterious and elegant. I have worn it to the office and I have gotten many compliments. It is also great for night time wear.

Pros: Price Point and Quality

Cons: Some will say it's synthetic - most fragrances are though...

Encre Noire was one of my first blind buys. At only $35 for a 3.3oz bottle, it wasn't much of a risk. Turns out, this is one would become one of my favorites. This one comes off as smoky and dark...but it's not a burnt kind of smokiness. The combination of woods and vetiver a nice ink note on top. Although a bit sharp, Encre Noire smooths out over the course of the wear into a light wood that's dry and warm. This won't be for everyone, but lovers of woody and/or vetiver fragrances need to at least check this one out.

As other have stated, this is a "dark" scent. I really enjoy this vetiver. It gets compared to Sycomore a lot, and I can see why...they are similar in a lot of ways to my nose. I don't know which one I enjoy more. Encre Noire is a great casual scent on a cool evening, while Sycomore works really well in more formal settings for me. The first time I tried Encre Noire, I didn't like it at all. It has grown on me over the years, and I love it now. I'd recommend not blind buying this one, but at such a low price, it's hard to pass up. This definitely smells different than your normal designer scents.

I blind bought this off a review I had seen on youtube. The earthy, woodsy, spice just sets me straight every time. When I was younger there was this show called SWAMP THING with this green monster dude. Anyway, this is what I would imagine what he would smell like.
