Cons: To me smells feminine and dull

This is for the current (latest) version.  Saw it through a window of a fragrance shop and decided to ask for the sample to my skin, as this has been getting some very positive reviews and never had smelled this before.  Right away as i smelled the first time i knew i could never wear a scent like this.  Even LIDGE smells better to me than this stuff.  The adjectives that came to my mind were: Sweet, powdery, feminine, soft, old-lady-like.   Shame, i would have liked to enjoy the classic, but just can't.

I guess the older formulations including the Cologne version could be better, and i'm ready to test them without prior expectations and objectively.

It seems the jury is still out as to what is in this juice. Luca Turin tells us that orange blossom and opopanax are in the top note, Guerlain tells us it's bitter orange and lime, Basenotes tells us it's bergamot, lemon, rosewood, basil and pimento. This is only the third scent in 137 years to be created by Guerlain for men (Mouchoir Monsieur in 1904 - a lavender fougere and the classic Vetiver in 1959 were its only forerunners). Their 1889 Jicky was created for women but adopted by men. Supposedly there are spices in the middle notes and an oriental base with patchouli and vanilla among other ingredients. On me with many applications, all I get is a very light citrus (more lemon or cedrat than lime, orange or grapefruit), followed in half an hour by a very light leather dry down. It is sophisticated, but very light and hardly the masterpiece Mr. Turin deems it to be. Indeed he calls it "sweet dust," which may give truth to the effect of its lightness. Too insubstantial for me to be deemed a success, but indeed it swept Europe and still holds its place among masculine scents considered to be great.

One of the most popular masterpiece from the house of Guerlain. It is a gentleman's perfume all right.Opens up with bright citruses mainly tart lemon and bergamot combo.Middle notes are some woods and finally settling into a powdery combination of leather, sandalwood & vanilla. The combination gives a powdery feel reminiscent of Emeraude by Coty & Shalimar. The leather from the scent gives it a little masculine edge. Try wearing this on formal occasions with a tuxedo or a Armani suit.Cannot imagine high school guys and young guys used to aquatics & sport scents liking it. Longevity is 8-10 hours and sillage for a good 5 hours on me with the Edt version. Charming and unique with the signature Guerlain smell.Really nice but the only negative is that people associate this scent with grand dads. Not that I am complaining.I like it.

EDT. Ok, no doubting the class & heritage here. I have had a bottle for quite some time & it certainly is a moreish scent. Only problem I have is that i feel I should be wearing a powdered wig and dressed as a dandy while wearing it. Massive vanilla and nice discreet Cedarwood seem to drive it along. Could easily be a feminine.

Okay, this is the last time I ever blind buy any frag. This just smells so dated.I think somebody else commented that it smells like an old woman's make up bag;I now know what they mean. This stuff is very strong, so much so, that after ten minutes my sinuses started to hurt. Definitely try before you buy.

The recent version: The bergamot and lemon blast is complimented by rose - woody initially and then with carnation giving it a flowery note with some sweetness - although never really cloying. Patchouli gives the drydown some warmth, and amber, a bit of moss and a touch of vanilla lead to a sweet base that after five hours becomes increasingly pleasantly maturely powdery. At the same time the sweet leather note is always in the background; probably strongest in the middle and early base notes. This is a great, complex and classic scent, rich, with very good silage and projection. The longevity is brilliant... Eight hours and still just fading out... A great classic, well ahead of it's time, but one sees how it was released at the same time as Aramis... Update: I had the chance to wear a vintage version - maybe 20-30 years old in a sealed bottled that had leaked and possible of suboptimal quality: the essential characteristics were very similar, but the vintage version was deeper, a bit richer and overall less sweet and, interestingly, on my skin a bit less powdery. Also, the vintage version lasted a bit less long: about five hours in total. Otherwise the same unobtrusive, classic, restrained impression but possibly with ingredients of higher quality.

This is about Habit Rouge EDT. I can't write much about this classic. Actually a masterpiece. Classic citrus opening joined by vanilla that turns into a wonderful sweet leather based scent. Unfortunately sometimes it smells like urine in my skin... maybe the amber note mixed with leather? I dont know. Sillage, lasting power and projection are medium-high.

This is a review about the new Habit Rouge edp Its funny how we can change our mind over time. I was never a great fan of Habit Rouge, I felt it was too dated and old, the citrus opening bored me and I couldn't get what the fuss was all about. That intrigued me a lot cause I lOVE leather scents. But then I started to dig Guerlains chest of treasures and I met Jicky. Jicky is a lovely fougere oriental, it opens quite fresh and animalic with some civet and lavender, and slowly evolves to a leathery powder vanilla base needless to say that I immediately fell for it. You must be asking why am I talking about jicky, its because It made me understand why HR is so good! JPG managed to merry the beautiful powdery guerlinade (That I love) with the citric opening and the leathery animalic undertones in a new and genius way, but alway paying homage to the classics of the brand! So Habit Rouge edp opens whit a rich and deep citric, sharp smell, this fase lasts a lot in this concentration (I suspect that the oud play a part here, even though I cant smell it) Slowly it evolves to the leathery powder vanilla base (very similar to the jicky one in my opinion) you can clearly smell the leather and the vanilla its beautiful. To me Habit Rouge is one of the best leathers ever created and will always be on my collection in every concentration and vintage I can get my hands on, Thanks God I changed my mind about it!

This great classic red jacket, restated many times but still keeping its soul intact. Your home gives way to citrus tones and dusty sweet treats in my pituitary ago. Billed as "mature" by many, to me is "elegant, complex and delicious."
