On my skin the is a clear brother of the original Ten, but with a number of important differences. He harsh opening blast is missing. The leather is softer, more elegant and a hint sweeter and fruitier, and in the later stages of a drydown I get a mild barbershop-style powdery note added. A wonderful fragrance, and a tamer and a less dominant sidekick to its famous brother. Very good projection and a longevity of over seven hours, but definitely less than the original.

Much more polite, elegant and wearable than his loud-mouth older brother, Knize Sec is one of my favourite leather scents. It is certainly dry, Champagne Brut rather than Demi-Sec (which suits me). There is a light, slightly creamy yeasty note which, along with a mild fruitiness, creates the unmistakeable Blanc de blancs aroma, and helps to prevent this scent from taking itself too seriously (unlike the afore-mentioned humourless sibling). Incense is quite prominent throughout its lifespan, which is about 8 hours.

Launched in 1985 Sec has a drastically dry citrus/frankincense/sage opening enriched in the drydown by amber, shy flowery accords, a remarkable coriander note and hints of leather. Sort of a dried to the bone Knize Ten. Not very much to add as this composition is quite simple and linear yet incredibly satisfying. Maybe not one of the most distinctive perfumes around but If you're into straight-forward, austere frankincense fragrances you'll probably dig this. I do.

The opening of Knize Sec shows a strong Knize Ten/Sec family resemblance. But where Ten goes heavy leather, Sec strikes a milder but full-bodied leather/tobacco pose. Theres also a citrus note right up front. Sec. The name might be unimaginative, but its right on. Sec has a gorgeous, arid character that reminds me that dry is not the antithesis of rich. Dryness here is a focused robustness that develops over time. As the green citrus recedes, Sec actually becomes a bit of a white floral (jasmine? violet?) What seems like a few simple parts play off each other beautifully. The white flower bit somehow ties the leather/tobacco to a rising incense and amber base. The frankincense connects to the citrus, the tobacco to the dry amber. So tidy. And a text-book example of an engaging evolution over time. Id recommend this to a man who likes a simple (as in non-fussy) fragrance but enjoys depth as well.

I get a rather dusty incense laden citrusy opening -- slightly odd but not unpleasant. It then plunges into a light leather and floral mix with the incense hanging on in the background. The drydown is a solid ambery leather/light wood mix with a touch of sweetness. Rather than an etiolated version of Knize Ten, it's more of a 'Nostalgia' Lite to my nose. Wonderful.

I always find Knize fragrances to be very challenging, and Sec is no exception. Its a highly engaging production, which despite a difficult early phase, ultimately succeeds. The problematic opening is a sour, medicinal fusion of flat citrus elements and fusty herbals. Thankfully, beyond the troublesome beginning, an arid stage is ushered in, with strong incense and labdanum contributions. The balance is excellent, and the discordance evident earlier, is replaced with balance, depth and intrigue. This upward trend in quality continues into the dry down, which is powdery and reminiscent of aged leather and tobacco. It took me a while to get Knize Sec, but it was well worth the effort

Very dry citrus and incense. Floral notes, too, probably spiced up jasmine or carnation. There's a touch of resinous leather but not really leatherl it's too mixed with the incense accord. For something obsequiously strong, it doesn't seem to last for long. I don't believe it's due to olfactory fatigue because I asked someone if they can smell my cologne (this was 4 hours after applying to my chest/shirt) and they said there was a faint hint of fabric softener. Welp... it was a freshly washed shirt.

To me, Sec smells kind of like a soap scented with Yatagan: the dry, aromatic herbs of über-macho colognes like Yatagan matched with an equal amount of aldehydic soapiness. There's something a little "muted", "dull", "flat" or even "plasticky" about that soapy accord in the beginning, but it mellows and mingles more with the herbs as it develops. I can't quite decide what I think of Sec, it's kind of pleasant, kind of unpleasant, not very earth-shattering...

Fragrance notes: citrus, sage, Moroccan labdanum, and probably orris (iris) with jasmine
Like all Knize fragrances, Sec is stylish and very, very distinctive. It is often described as a floral leather and that is exactly how it seems to me: a deep floral heart with a leathery-incense drydown. The opening is marvelous and intrigues my green-seeking soul. It is quite herbaceous, fresh and lively. It quickly moves to a somewhat fleshy floral and powder note, which I speculate comes from orris/iris and jasmine. I can see how some detect a champagne quality, since the citrus and somewhat yeasty notes combine to give a champagne-like character. The base is leathery, and I think that comes from the Moroccan labdanum which typically has warm ambery-leather note. The dry down is lightly pungent, with incense and leather notes. Floral-leather normally wouldn't interest me at all, but due to the panache and quality of Knize I find that I admire this scent. Long live Knize!

If the Knize Ten reminds you of a gentleman in the 1920s or 1930s...wearing a trenchcoat and a hat...walking down a rainy street of Vienna in the morning on his way to work----then Knize Sec will be that man getting out of work that evening, getting all liquored up and having a laugh with his friends. Knize Ten is an introverted scent....deep inside a heart of leather, tar, rubber, petrol.....Knize Sec is extroverted with champagne, incense, citrus, and fruits.

I remember reading somewhere many months ago, that there were champagne-like notes in here....and damn, they were right. There really is some champagne going on here....whenever i smell this, i feel as if a celebration is in order! Sec is so alive with colour.....the opening blast is a citrus laden, champagne filtered blast of fresh....with huge sillage, and big longetivity. I put some on my right arm in the morning...and it smells almost as if i put this stuff on 20 minutes ago.....even after changing into scrubs earlier, walking around outside, coming back in....changing clothes 3 times...so the quality is there.

After the light-me-a-smoke-cos-i'm-a-fookin-rock-and-roll-star-tonight opening, the drydown uses labdanum to create this lovely, floaty, incense background, and Sec really settles down into a relaxed, leisurely, and elegant incense and sweet woods fragrance with flashes of the citrus and champagne remnants lingering around. beautiful stuff.....artsy stuff.

I don't know what to compare this scent to. This one is not forgettable....it is very memorable. It's the kind of scents i can imagine making memories in....it may be extroverted, but it still has that Knize depth to it...where you cannot exactly pinpoint what is going on, or limit it by its notes....it has an abstractness i can't really find....and which makes me love it even more. It's going to be a STUNNING fragrance to wear in the spring.....and i can't wait to unleash it in the coming months...

another Knize which goes straight to my soul. Excellent.
