Synthetic mess. And that's on a good warm night, when the berries are pronounced. In colder weather exceptionally nasty vanilla dominates. I used to like it. But after trying some Serge Lutens's can't stand Opium anymore. Nice name do.

Opium is in the same family of fruit/leather fragrances as Egoiste, Burberry London, Zino and others. This one is sweet, true, but it works here (as it does in Egoiste and London) since it's offset by the spice and leather (or is it a tobacco note?). This also has very good longevity and adequate sillage (probably want to be soft on the trigger). Those comparing this to dog poo are being hyperbolic in the extreme but I can see someone being turned off by the spicy sweetness. I tend not to like a ton of sweetness (Joop!, Eternity For Men, etc.) but I enjoy this YSL offering quite a bit. The bottle is snazzy, the price is right and you're probably not going to run into many other fellas at the jobsite wearing this.

Sweet narcotic! Magnificent fragrance, my second favorite of the house after M7. I hope to Yves Saint Laurent can not think reformulate or in the worst cases, discontinue it. The only thing that I find against Opium Pour Homme is anis, I not get along great with that note. But the general body of the composition is great, sublime. I would try the EDP, spoken of much better. Great oriental, for some the best and worth even get a taste.

A real french oriental, sweet but not that much. Surrounded by spices, lasts for hours and have a excellent projection and sillage.

Don't get hooked on opium! After reading the reviews I ordered a bottle of Opium PH and was very glad that I did. This stuff smells great. In viewing the YSL website, however, I noticed that this was not available for order. Subsequently I contacted YSL and was told that unfortunately, due to poor sales, it had been discontinued. Not wanting to become addicted to something for which the remaining available stock would soon be depleted, I searched for a viable alternative. I am happy to say that- at least for me- I have been successful. Following an exhaustive (Well, it wasn't really that strenuous.) search I was led to Eau Des Baux by L'Occitane. The vanilla drydown is unbelievably pleasant and despite differing reviews as regards longevity, for me the soft, sweet smell lasts all day and through the night. I highly recommend this EDT, guys. If you like Opium, give this a try. I don't think you'll be sorry.

Flowery harsh synthetic spice mess, too sweet. If you want something a little more sophisticated and masculine, give the original Opium a try. Yes, the pour Femme one.

Didn't smell too bad on paper but as soon as this touched my skin it exploded into this soapy sweetness. I can't stand that huge sweet note that persists through it. I can smell something nice underneath but it's hard to detect under all that other nonsense. It calms down a bit but it's just too much.
