Huge blast of eucalyptus up front, simmering down to a sweet leather base. Fairly linear and one dimensional. Definitely a spring/fall scent for me - in warm weather this would not fare well. I had heard rants of the monster projection and longevity of Safari for Men, but I do not get any of that here, even when applied with unscented lotion. My bottle was manufactured in 2012, so that may account for this phenomenon (e.g. reformulated). A decent fragrance no doubt, but after expanding my wardrobe I can't possibly rate this as a thumbs up. Would I replace my bottle if broken, stolen, or when used up? No. However, I will enjoy the one I have until it is finished.

I had this when it first came out. Was an high school and wore it occasationally. Forgot about it until 22 years later when I saw it on sale on Perfumania. Picked it up again and quickly became reaquainted with Safari (for Men). What struck me was that it smelled a lot like YSL Jazz. What? Who was first? Well, Jazz came out before but Safari is a pleasant sidestep away from Jazz. SfM has a bit of eucalyptis in the top notes and is a tad bit medicinal but it works somehow. Settles down to a strong, aromatic blend of carnation, geranium and lavender simliar to Jazz that defines the men's "office" frag. Eventually, it succombs to oak moss, leather and sandalwood. Smells "American", just like Ralph wanted it to. 7/10

The 2nd best fragrance Ralphie has ever made. Period. New version, as is Polo Green, is different, but the essences of the originals are still there. Safari is like Polo Green's manly spicy adventurous cousin. Albeit, in spirit, as the two do not smell anything alike. I have used Safari since the mid to late 90's and have only twice ever found it in gift set's ( one with a 4.2 edt & aftershave, one with mini edt and 1.7 oz shower gel) Also once found a 2.0oz bottle at TJ Maxx yrs ago. Needless to say I feel it will be yanked any day now. It just doesnt seem to sell well, even though it's smell is fantastic. Many compliments from women, and men. I use this at least twice a week still. Most if not all have never heard of it. Only once have I ever found someone who was wearing it, and I think I freaked them out by immediately knowing what they were wearing, lol Just get some while you can, this is the next Polo Crest- In terms of people who will be reminiscing about it and driving its prices up on Ebay in about 10 yrs.

Oh happy day! My ex-partner was helping to clear out the loft of her mother's house when she stumbled upon a boxed, unused 125ml bottle of this after shave and figured I'd quite like to have it in my collection. She wasn't wrong! I was 10 when this frag was relaesed and I suppose it is showing it's age, but for me, this is a gorgeous fresh, warm spicy scent; wonderfully rich and masculine and it instantly makes me think of refinement and sophistication. As does the decanter style bottle. It looks great in my collection and smells even better on my skin. I'm probably wearing it all wrong; during the day with a casual checked shirt and scruffy jeans, but I don't care because this feels good, and my partner agreed. Thumbs up. Edit: A little time has past and I'm just as fond of this juice but having sniffed countless frags since, it has quickly come to my attention that this is almost a perfect clone of Tsar by Van Cleef & Aprels: from the bergamot in the opening to the leathery tobacco with the touch of soap in the dry down. I can't blame RL though, it's a classic formula that works!

Amazing stuff that has the 90's DNA. Smells mature and classic, with average lasting power and excellent sillage. More suitable for > 25 years. Worth it for sure.

I remember using this years ago when I went clubbing. This was the best thing since cooked bread back then. I understand this has been reformulated since then. I remember it being a strong cloying scent. But when you're young, and using this stuff you don't even think about it. I know better now!....Lol. I am rating this frag based on the way it smelled years ago. Wasn't bad then.

Safari for Men opens with a chemical aldehyde onslaught with bergamot support. The aldehydes begin to recede as a very strong lavender note takes the fore and nearly drown out the rest of the notes with only oakmoss and leather from the base able to push past the lavender to make themselves known. As the lavender very slowly dissipates, the oakmoss and leather base notes grow stronger, combining with patchouli, amber and faux sandalwood through the dry-down. Projection is excellent, as is longevity. I seem to be in the distinct minority, but I have owned Safari for Men for many years and even now just can't "get" it. The aldehydes are tough to take early on, and the lavender is just way too strong for my tastes. Couple all this with the overall synthetic smelling nature of the scent from top to bottom and you have a 2 stars out of 5 poor release from Ralph Lauren. My vintage bottle is going to wind up with a friend who might be able to appreciate this one more than I.

SAFARI should be terrific and perfect for me, but...it isn't. The spices, patchouli, and bergamot are muddled in an astringent floral bouquet that overwhelms the masculine basenotes and never dissipate to allow a concert with the other notes. It's disappointing as the pyramid promised what the bottle just could not deliver. This is too floral and projects too intensely. It "reads" to the nose as cheap and dated.

I love this scent. One of the ones that I'll keep buying. I got 2 "You smell Goods" in one day( That's rare). Now I just want to find the After Shave Balm to add to it.
