Vapor by Neil Morris Fragrances, 2009

Nostalgie and Buzzpuff have both written such apt descriptions of Vapor that I'm not sure what I can add. Sparkly aldehydes, lifting the base of warm doughy heliotrope and tonka into a cloud of powder. Whenever I think of powdery scents, I think of heavy classics, but this one is modern and airy. Yet sprayed it has decent sillage. An interesting study in contrasts and for any lover of aldehydic scents, an absolute must-try.

VAPOR or "Ozonic Vinyl". It opens with a light soft synthetic plastick air that is a light simulation of air. This syntetic air settles into a powdery light freshness. Vapor could be an alien fragrance brought back from a hidden outer world planet or secretly inhabited asteroid. Aldehydes + more Aldehydes, water Lilly, tonka, heliotrope for the puffy clouds feel, with a base of ambroxin, musk, incense for a similar generic base as used in Hologram. Vapor could easily fill the brief for fragrances such as Escentric Molecules, Kenzoair (less the anise) or Odeur 53. This scent brings to mind the lyrics and tempo from the ambient trance track "Little Fluffy Clouds" by the Orb - " the little fluffy clouds, da, da, da, da, little fluffy clouds . . . .the little fluffy clouds . . . . A strange, wearable scent, with lots of development phases.

I was wondering how heliotrope and tonka could contribute to anything that smelled like "vapor"--but they do.

The opening is a bit prickly --sharp aldeydes create an almost citrusy feel--but hold on, once it clams down, "Vapor" is like a blast of fresh air blowing into a room where pastries (the southern French specialty "Frangipane" comes to mind) languish in a basket on the table.

A somewhat plasticy musk rises up in the dry down, and the "vapor" note becomes more industrial than earthy--but not in a bad way. Kind of like a layer of clean warehouse air over bread crust. A bit like Bois Farine minus the honey and warmth: Bois Farine left the farm for a job in the city.

Becomes a close-to-the-skin scent within an hour. I'd love to know how the sillage smells on someone else. Perhaps because I only used a bit from a sample vial. I don't think I'm radiating "Vapor." In the deep dry down it makes my skin smell fresh and tasty, but not in a foody way.

Not too feminine, not too masculine--but leaning more toward masculine in the dry down.
