I bought this for my wife for a little "stocking stuffer" at Christmas. It's simply enchanting - especially on her olive skin! Amazing fragrance - she gets compliments like crazy and it has a beautiful composition that supports the gorgeous amber accord! I put a little on my skin, as I knew it could be unisex. I really liked it, but this quickly became one of her favorite scents for the winter...and I didn't want us smelling the same. Plus, I have other fragrances in my collection that are loaded with amber - so this is her's. And, I love it on her. What is downright amazing is to make sensual love to her while she puts this on her pulse points and I apply a complimentary male fragrance. One of her favorites on me is Gucci Pour Homme I with the beautiful deep wood & incense mixed with amber and vanilla. It is a coming together of body, mind, spirit and scent...harmonious. Not to offend anyone, but this is a magical elixir with special memories for me (and my wife). ;-)

Another one I can wear to my highly public workplace with no reservations. Refined Mandarin/Cardamom topnotes subtley balance Myrrh/Oppopanax midnotes wich are strengthened by sandalwood/patchouli/though-of-vanilla basenotes. This smells like a lavender and amber combo, a true masterpiece of blending which pleases all who have smelled it (on me at least). This is one which should have gone to the masses, before the age of celebrity phakes enticed them on to other unworthies. Here we have a classy French number, by the respected house of Yves Rocher--which frankly hasn't done enough to extend itself to the masses worldwide. It is easy to see the correlation between this piece and 50+ year old classic Viole perfumes by a number of makers, and the ambre of today. BUT it is time to get the word out in a way that will attract the attention to keep this scent popular. Classy enough for any occasion, work or play. No threats, no promises with this crafted batch...

For all you amber lovers out there that are on diets, this is your dish. For once, you get to chose a fully satisfying amber fragrance, with only half the calories. Finally, the heart healthy menu doesn't look quite so dismal. A full helping of all these calorie rich notes, but executed with an airy hand. The smell is equal to a much heartier meal, and you will walk away able to fasten your belt buckle. You get amber, a dose of citrus, some incense, a helping of myrrhe, and even some opoponax and vanilla for a sweet touch. There is not much patch, as you have to cut back somewhere. In total, this is a great transitional amber fragrance that fulfills, yet doesn't fill you up. And your meal will cost less than everyone else at the table - and they will never know. Now that is a bargain.

Yves Rocher Voile D'Ambre

Can somebody show me a reasonably priced Eau de Parfum which has staying power and complexity? Right this way, young Colognisseur, let me introduce you to the Yves Rocher line and the 2005 release Voile D'Ambre, created by Olivier Pescheux. Note the use of quality ingredients the distinctly balanced development and the tiny price tag. This is the answer to the question.

Yves Rocher has a number of very reasonably priced fragrances and one of the five or six standout fragrances in this line is Voile D'Ambre. This is an amber where the amber is like a pizza crust as it is the base upon which all the remaining notes rest and combine with.

The top of Voile D'Ambre begins with a sharp mandarin note that contains a bit of green to it. This combines with the soft spiciness of cardamom as the amber softly supports everything. The base moves toward a couple of traditional partners of amber as myrrh and incense take their place. M. Pescheux keeps the resinous notes in balance as he adds opopanax to them and the floral aspect in combination with the incense and amber make a delightful mix. The base is all woody warmth as sandalwood, vanilla, and patchouli all add to the now more intense amber to leave Voile D'Ambre in a lovely place.

Voils D'Ambre has incredible longevity on me, 24 hrs. worth, as well as above average sillage.

Voile D'Ambre is one of the best amber based fragrances available for one of the most modest prices. If you're looking for one of the best bangs for your buck out there I think you could do much worse than to start here.

Bitter opening but I like it it has both substance and contentiousness. It is a green mandarin and doesnt stay bitter for very long. Almost immediately the gentle incense moves into the mandarin opening, and I think the myrrh is there, also. Its nicely done: I get some bit of a smooth resin combined with a decidedly smooth amber / spice, but I wouldnt call it very resinous. Its an enjoyable accord rather neutral in impact, comfortable if not edgy. The vanilla from the base adds an additional sweetness along with the sweetness of the amber. There are supposed to be sandalwood and patchouli in the base, and although I can sense some woody texture there, theres not enough to really identify. Voile dAmbre is a very good fragrance It is surely worthy of a testing by an amber lover.

Amber for everyday, amber for the office. Amber for polite situations. Amber for many ages, amber for daytime; amber when you don't want to overpower. A solid, all-around amber. A truly pleasant, enjoyable, and delightfully affordable amber. It is indeed, even with other accompanying notes that soften it up, still quite directly: amber.

Not a loud scent, not dramatic, not over-the-top, not heavy. Not nearly unisex, not even especially dark.

And that is why, regretfully, it receives only four out of five stars.

See, I **prefer** loud, heavy, dramatic, over-the-top, usually unisex and dark amber scents. but that's just me.

Truly, a great amber for the money. Don't let my slanted view deter you. You can't go wrong with this one.

Voile D'Ambre reminds me of the delicate amber notes in Chantilly! I'd have to say this one's not especially warm, it's more on the fresh side. Not a bit cloying or heavy. Timeless classic, feminine, soft and sexy. Wears close to the body, an excellent fragrance choice for warm weather. If you typically don't enjoy resinous amber scents, this one might work for you. Worth a try, for sure!

Head Notes: Italian Green Mandarin, Cardamom.
Heart Notes: Myrrh, Incense, Opoponax.
Base Notes: Madagascar Vanilla, Australian Sandalwood, Patchouli.

For me, this is a lovely and unexpectedly light amber (probably because of a combination of the citrus notes, the lack of actual ambergris(!) and a light touch all around). Very nice for early spring when the weather can't seem to make up its mind.

This is a sister to Laura B's Roma. Lovely orangey topnotes with a hint of spice dry down to a sweet, bright amber. The eau de parfum lasts about as long as an edt on me, but that's rather typical for YR. I think this is one of their best creations.

Somewhere between Estée Lauder's Intuition and Shalimar Light. If you love orientals but are looking for something brighter Voile'Ambre could be something for you. Though it's not very concentrated or long-lasting, it really smells like an expensive perfume.
