Now,how I'd need the IFF device during my "scent" walks!
I don't find them similar at all, in any respect.
Borneo is dark, dense, dusty and I love it deeply, while I find ML nice in its initial nuttiness but shallow and synthetic in the long run.
Maybe the OP should clarify what he/she means with "real amber"- as deadidol already pointed out, otherwise we'll be in the open field of subjectivity...
For example: to me the most real amber...
I smelt some of their fragrances at Esxence a couple of years ago, and also got some samples. Not bad scents, rather uninteresting, IMO. I had the orange blossoms and a thick, overly sweet tropical...
I agree, too!
It is! I had a sample of it and loved every single drop- to me it smells weirdly of tea with milk, at a certain point! It's quite expensive, though.
Thanks for the link.
I'm re-reading Bulgakov Master and Margarita: during Woland show at the theatre women in the audience are given clothes, shoes, bags and "Guerlain, Chanel, Mitsouko, Narcisse Noir, Chanel n° 5"...
my favourite ones:
Bornéo 1834, Etro Patchouly and Coromandel. I also like Bois 1920 Patchouly and Mazzolari, which I find rather similar
I tried a couple of their soaps- can't remember exactly which Cow . The scents were both very light, very safe, quite pretty- a rose-sandalwood and an aromatic herbs- ginger accord. OK for a...
Beautiful interview- and many thanks Chris.
I would have said BD was my favourite perfumer some time ago- I guess he's the most represented in my personal wardrobe, but he's been so over-exposed lately and his work is sometimes, IMO,...
I generally spend most of my time in the GFD sub forum and here the difference is not that huge... As the previous poster says, here there are people who care about all aspects of Fragrance and...
Thanks Kagey, I love this kind of articles.
May I suggest to you and others this: http://www.aesop.com/au/pleasureandpurpose ?
Tried them both- not on skin, fortunately!
Geranium is OK, safe and true to its name.
Lavande can be interesting in the opening BUT it features the very same white musk that Olivia...
Like Eau de Magnolia!!!! It really displays all the facets of the flower, also a certain sourish fruit decay note, at some point, that magnolia flowers give off when crushed- I used to play...
I tend to agree with you- a certain note can arise from several different odorants combined, resembling none of them.
I slightly disagree on molecules not having "notes": I'm reading Scent and...
Great fan of AbdesSalaam, here! Never tried Balsamo della Mecca, but own a mini of Chilum: no menthol detected- unfortunately, as I love camphorated or mentholated vibes in fragrances!- but a...
Cacio, you're right! I'm wearing a kimono that's been in contact with EdM and it's giving off a delicious muguet- like smell...
I'm reading that molecules that smell of lily of the valley are...
It may not have been addressed here, but the idea of individual sensitivity to a specific odorant and different degrees of perception of it according to certain variable parameters are widely...
Don't know if it's happening worldwide, but at Rinascente in Milan I found- on sale!! 30%- the Vaporizateur Tout Noir set of Iris Silver Mist and Fourrure Noire, two Palais Royal exclusive...
Interesting association, cacio and interesting infos gandhajala .
I'm now at my third full wear of EdM (from the tester at corsocomo in Milan) and about to buy a FB.
I don't see much a...
I know I promised I wouldn't have said more on the subject, but I'll just chime in to say how much I love the way LT uses Chemistry, along with other arts and sciences, as an endless source of...
School and compliments- it has happened twice to me, this school year and in both cases it was Etro Patchouly. Two students of mine, in different occasions made a positive remark on the way I...
English is not my mother-tongue and my studies in Chemistry are quite ancient- and was more in Inorganic Chemistry than in Organic, but I think all he says is: as alkynes are too reactive to be...
He' s back?! :shocked::2vrolijk_08:
I am a great fan of Etro fragrances and own a few.
At each purchase the SAs informed me that all Etro fragrances were made to be matched. Never trusted them, but once I layered Patchouly and...
 sounds delicious!
Although I'm not too fond of pairing these two pleasures- especially when I'm cooking I don't like to be scented- I like to wear Indian inspired perfumes (Trayee,...
The gardenia is very fleeting and multifaceted, spanning from rose notes to mushroom to musky-leathery...
A friend- with a deep knowledge in matter of perfume and perfumery-asked me what I was...
Got serendipitously a sample of this and can't believe how much I like it!
No "sweet teen sauce" here, no safe fruity floral, no vanilla, nor white musks- a rooty, mossy, slightly mentholated,...
Tested it this afternoon at 10 corsocomo in Milan: sparkling, transparent, rather lightweight, with the eponymous note appearing in all its beauty at a certain point but fading rather quickly in a...
This, for me too. I find the opening quite fascinating but can't stand the development...
Thanks for the link.
I read Rosalia Cavalieri book some time ago, and found it very interesting, by the way.
Yes, it has happened to me, in several occasions. Smelling- or tasting- scented things,...
I am a fan of their good quality, reasonable price candles. I have tried a few of their fragrance- can't tell exactly which ones, apart Patchouli- and found them nice, safe maybe a bit weak..
Diptyque Figuier mingling with my neighbours' jasmine
To my nose TD has always smelt very synthetic- I'm referring to a bottle bought in 2010. :-(
in Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel" M. Gustave- Ralph Fiennes- can't live without his (fictional) signature scent Air de Panache.
I totally agree with your point of view, narcotica, and thank you for a sound dose of science in a field that sometimes seems a bit in need of it. And I like your definition of perfume as a matter of...
Norne, of course, but also AbdesSalaam Attar's Hindu Kush. They're actually very sinilar in the deep rich resinous drydown.
Also department store Globus- Marktplatz- has a nice niche selection: Etro, Annick Goutal, Comme des Garcons and others.
I've just spent a few days in Vienna and couldn't avoid repeating to myself the sentence about the Ottoman Empire bringing administrative inefficiency and baggy trousers in areas that would otherwise...
Also L'Eau by Diptyque is a cinnamom bomb!
I particularly love the cinnamon note in Sumatera by Coquillete Paris and in Parfum d'Empire Azemour les Orangers
My feelings as well!! Fingers crossed.... :)
In this case I guess reformulations are better!
I personally don't find geranium (I'm referring to fresh leaves smell- the only one I know directly and that gives me clues when I spot it in fragrances) nor dirty nor animalic- it's mostly green,...
Thank you!
I love writing down my olfactory sensations of the places where I happen to be...
In Queneau's Zazie dans le metro the uncle reeks of Barbouze de chez Fior
Ambre 114 with its aromatic herbs opening could be somewhat... fresh!
Another one you could try is Ambre Ceruléen by Huitième Art- Pierre Guillaume. It opens quite fresh with a lemony verbena...
Knize is Austrian, actually.... :)
SotD is gorgeous Carbon by Italian brand nu_be, from a sample I got at Esxence.
Totally agree with Jon, Tiziana Terenzi fragrances are great- smelled them too at Esxence. :)
Just visited Esxence and tested MT edp- gorgeous stuff! Had also a sniff of Corsica Furiosa, which I was told was still a bit too green- not fully seasoned yet: interesting and refreshing essay on...
Neela Vermeire Trayee features a "ganja" accord too.
This one seems interesting. !
God morning, happy Spring to all Boreal hemisphere Basenoters- and, consequently, happy Autumn for the Austral ones!
SotD is the... Premier Figuier de la saison!
Have a nice day.
Thym et Figuier room spray by Esteban. Very nice
Two guys that make me a bit proud of being Italian- at least on Basenotes!
Grazie anche da parte mia!
Another one????
Wishing a happy happy birthday to dear ExtremeK in a cloud of Hindu Kush, what else! :)
10 Corso Como is an address in Milan, actually...
I'll add the Italian city series by AbdesSalaam Attar: Milano Caffé, Venezia Giardini Segreti, Palermo Don Corleone. And, by this same...
Coromandel for me, today.
Enjoy your concert, Evangeline- I'm listening to St. Vincent right now
Happy birrhday jujy!
Craving for flowers this morning- SotD is the very last drop of my sample of fabulous Venezia Giardini Segreti by AbdesSalaam Attar
Have a nice day :)
I guess you'll find lots of informations in the shopping section.
Plus, there is a nice double post- one for each rive :) - on Grain de Musk
(Discontinued ) L'Artisan Jacinthe et Feu de Bois , perfect for early Spring
Never smelled Florida air, but I was thinking at Parfum d'Empire Azemour Les Orangers while reading. Orange trees, sand, hints of seaweeds and sun-dried grass. Worth trying, IMO
Gorgeous smelling Mr Q!!!!!
Geodesis Mimosa in this beautiful, clear day.
everybody is saying Daim Blond and I have just spritzed some Daim Blond on my arm, during a testing session at 10 corsocomo! (The other scents being CDG Patchouli de Luxe EdT and Blue...
I was looking outside my bedroom window and saw my neighbour's young, slender mimosa tree sadly bent under the heavy rain that's falling since last night... I reached for my...
Wearing Sycomore from a sample.
It's not a strictly gender related issue, IMO.
I think there are women, and men, that tend to follow the stereotypes that society, reinforced by advertisements and marketing strategies suggest: if...
Good afternoon everybody.
Again Coromandel in a sunny day.
The question is: can women really give advices? :cheesy:
Yes, women can really distinguish expensive cologne, but also can smell traces of trite and cheap stereotypes! And I guess most women and men can do better and smell who is beyond the expensive...
28 La Pausa, from a sample. I'm not sure I'm getting it...
Have a nice weekend
Love to imagine the situation you conjure!
It happens to me in the morning in winter, when I tend to wear some overall jjumpers for several days, changing fragrances every day and often sampling on...
Couldn't agree more, Evangeline: it's not hard at all to avoid this cruel coffee. My thought anyway is that it's ALWAYS difficult to make choices that don't do some harm to somebody or something......
Thanks Evangeline...it's always so difficult to live ethically!
Thanks for the interesting article! As a lover of the French tripes sausage called andouillette- which can be very.... civetty, at times!- I'd love to taste it!
Where did you find it in...
Happy you're bringing Hindu Kush with you at the spa!
RE the stinky molecule, I don't know... I did the test for Iso E Super deadidol suggested in another thread (smelling a paper strip...
Hello all, lovely people!
Joining cello in the attempt to add a bit of patchouli to this infinite rosiness. This morning I doused myself in my adored Bornéo, later I tested again some...
Milano Caffè in a cloudy Milano day...
Farnesiana EdP for me today.
Have a nice day :)
My sympathies to everybody affected by various bugs :)
SotD is sweet Heliotrope by Etro, cozy and warm in another heavy rainy day.
Best to all
Mimosa by Geodesis- a taste of Spring...
So sorry to see the damages the water is doing! Today sun shines, here, and there's also a nice breeze... More rain is expected next days :( Milan is quite safe, but there have...
In an Italian novel- not a great one :( anyway!- one of the characters, a pianist, makes references to a French perfume named after a Chopin composition- Nocturnes de Caron, I guess.
I used to wear...
Tabac by AbdesSalaam Attar in a foggy day :(
Enjoy your weekend!
Don't you get a sharp synthetic note- I would say "musk"- in both Tam Dao and Orange Sanguine? I can't wear those two fragrances- which I like in the opening- because after a few minutes all I can...
Good afternoon everybody.
Milano Caffé in a sunny day, for a change.
((Jujy)) and eveyone in need :)
Good afternoon :)
SotD is Etro Gomma.
Take care all of you under every kind of weather!
My lovely pine cheapie- Muji Christmas, this afternoon!
La Traversèe du Bosphore in a grey, damp day.
My holy grail for citruses. Azemour Les Orangers.
Good afternoon from rainy-as-usual Milan !
Etro Patchouly for me.
It could be... I truly can't stand Angel and its numerous siblings and offsprings and I can't find any similarity with DVN (which I don't like much, in any case)
'morning all, 'morning lpp! Still raining? Here- yes, for sure
Wishing you all a nice February with a whiff of Farnesiana!
Almost in synch with Hindu Kush- Luca Turin says that it smells like the opening of Mitsuko... :)
Have a nice evening!
Tam Dao and Zagorsk made me think of my favourite woody incense, Hindu Kush by AbdesSalaam Attar. It's all about wood and resins, with just a hint of dry and not too invasive spices. It's all...
In case someone is interested- it didn't snow! Just the usual sh****y rain, only freezing!
Where has the snow gone?!!! (Rhetorical question- I know it has just crossed...
