L de Lolita Lempicka for me!
Has anyone seen the Funny or Die commercial Snooki made for her fragrance?
Her tagline: "It's a REAL product!"
It made me laugh out loud...and hilariously...
Hi everyone! Long time no posties for me, but today's SOTD is SL Chergui :)
Ack, I'm late to the discussion!
CB ain't for everyone, and some of his stuff can be astoundingly simple...but even when simple, they pack an amazing emotional wallop.
I own Burning Leaves,...
Flowerbomb! Hiya Chaya! Didn't know you were Basenotes! *hugs hugs hugs!*
Bond no. 9 Scent of Peace
try every other new release geared to the late teen, early 20s market.
also: the new Matsushima Masaki scent is very definitely in the same family as Princess. Have whoever you're giving it to try...
It is very light on me...I recall a lot of bergamot and then woods. It's been a while, though, and I would have to re-sniff. I remember liking it. A lot. Whether it's FBW, I dunno yet.
wellll...Tuberose doesn't like me. :( I've tried for years to be able to wear it, but it honestly does not like me...
That said, I'm very interested in this one anyway :D
I LOVE the original Private Collection, looking forward to this one. Err, despite the tuberose, that is.
It's not so much obscure as it is hard to get a hold of: Nuit au Desert (Gobin Daude).
I'm still after the rest of the Gobin Daude fragrances, but this one is my most treasured bottle because it...
I hate to say it, but lately (because I've been pretty f'ing blue lately), there's not been much to help.
You can say all you want about comfort scents, there ARE some...
Wearing LV's Dilmun :D
Don't know exact numbers, but mine's almost definitely Bois Farine.
Wearing Bois Farine!
what an awesome job!
then that must be what my fan is--it's made out of carved wood! Don't know where it got the roses from, though...or maybe I'm just remembering things...
I once had a scented fan that smelled of sandalwood and roses. I think it was sold like that. Now that I think about it, I think that would be a great idea! I don't think things like citrus would...
Wearing Bois Farine!
Wearing a dousing of Miller Harris Citron Citron, over Bond's Chinatown.
I was raised in a Baltimore suburb, but don't know of any niche fragrance sources in the city...are there any? Or do I have to go to DC to find them?
I figure I might as well go shopping on...
Etro Ambra, after a tax snaffu...
I definitely definitely want to go back to Aedes! Such a beautiful store. And it's so intimate, and jam-packed full so much stuff. I could easily spend an entire year's salary in there...
Hmm. I've also never tried comparing the same scent on different wrists. Half the time I'm such a scent ho that I've got different fragrances on either wrist!
I definitely agree with you that a...
Wearing Bond no. 9 Chinatown :)
If you want to pay retail, I know Saks in New York carries the Tabac Blond in parfum only. I got my Poivre parfum from them.
Wow! Sounds like a wonderful time. That's very generous of you to take your friend for that consultation.
I'm fascinated by the analysis! I wonder what they'd make of me...
Testing out Miller Harris' Coeur d'Ete. We can hope for sun, right?
I recall Agent Provocateur being a powdery mess on myself as well, but this makes me want to give Rose 31 a longer inspection. I only smelled it once, briefly, on a test blotter.
Taolady, I hate to break it to you, but...
THE ATTACK ON OUR CHOCOLATE HAS ALREADY COMMENCED.
SAVE OUR CHOCOLATE!!!
Sheer and modern...hmm...
Marc Jacobs Blush.
scent of peace
lol, no, kiddo...i just started subscribing officially to Basenotes ;)
Even though Bond no. 9's Little Italy lists musk as a base, I can barely smell it. So I suggest that. There's also Creed's Zeste Mandarine Pamplemousse, which you may like :)
ah, kotori...I feel a bit guilty about it, but I've done that too...
Shanghai_rose, it's not for me either. Neither was the original Chance, for that matter. I could say what I *really* think about Chance, but then that wouldn't be terribly lady-like. I agree with you...
That's exactly what I'd do...tell the regular employees.
My city has several different perfume boutiques, from the local department store to a beautiful little florist's shop with many niche...
Trying out L de Lolita Lempicka today :D
I'm 4'8" (yes, yes, let the short jokes commence) and...134 pounds (MUCH porkier than I should be...but fear not! I'm on WeightWatchers!). I'm also Filipino, and have had extremely dry skin for the...
I'm 'thirding' (?) the Serge Lutens suggestions, and adding an oddball one of my own: Bois Farine, L'Artisan (It's totally different from anything out there, IMHO, but you may like it).
And then there are scents that are young forever, like Jicky...which, for a fragrance formulated in 1889, still holds itself up as a very modern-smelling fragrance to my nose.
Oooh lots and lots!!
Annick Goutal Eau du Sud
Annick Goutal Les Nuits d'Hadrien
Annick Goutal Mandragore
Keiko Mecheri Sanguine
L'Artisan Mure et Musc
L'Artisan Mandarine Tout Simplement...
I wore Nuits d'Hadrien a LOT last summer, and am looking forward to bringing it out this summer as well. I also wear the original Eau d'Hadrien and Eau du Sud :D
Welcome to Basenotes!
Insolence is something I wanted to love, but there was a tad too much violet and berry in it. On the other hand, it's a very 'old-fashioned feeling' scent packaged as a young girl's scent to me. I...
Squire, I honestly don't think 'old ladies' wear 'old lady perfumes' because they HAVE to--I think they wear them because they WANT to. I know the old ones aren't for everyone, but so what? What...
Welcome! I sent you a PM. :D
Well, no, most POL people are definitely *not* your everyday mass-market shoppers. Would Basenoters consider themselves the ordinary mass-market shoppers?...and I definitely don't worship classic or...
I actually have a more acute allergy to scented deodorants (as if being perfume allergic wasn't bad enough! I have to stink, too!), and saw a doctor for that...all he did was give me a prescription...
I have heard that sometimes, samples come a few weeks or even a few months after one fills out the online questionnaire. I filled one out and never received anything. I do know that the boutique in...
I have never been to Chicago either, and would love to go! Esp. to L'artisan. I'd walk to the ends of the earth for them.
The hydrocortisone won't really stop with the itching--but it will help your skin a little. It's sad, but I'm actually allergic to most of my fragrances now. It started with just the Stella, and now...
I MISSED basenotes, very much.
Wearing Lily and Spice (Penhaligon's) on one hand, and Quelques Fleurs on the other.
I was just in Barney's this saturday, and they do indeed have Chergui AND Rousse. Bergdorf's has LHB in any concentration, and The Different Company is in Takashimaya, down the street from Barney's...
I've just embarked on a new iris love affair...this might just be the thing.
How I wish I could be there with you! I've never smelled the scent of plum trees in the springtime, and I would give a lot to be able to do so. How lucky you are to have these trees near you!
I am a full bottle girl...but if I am even remotely ambivalent about a fragrance, I WILL NOT BUY. If it's a fragrance I'm 'in like' with, like Fracas or some of the Bonds, I'll do decant or sample....
I think Cuir de Russie is a wonderful fragrance, and a great choice...but absolutely wait a little bit until you can smell them all. I was 'in like' with some of the Exclusifs, but not 'in love' with...
I have a 'thing' for 'literal' peach--candied, sweet, fruity peaches...the kind found in Tresor, Maybe Baby, Body Shop Fuzzy Peach, etc. It's sweet and not sophisticated, but I love it anyway.
Wearing L'Artisan's Safran Troublant (I LOVE THIS STUFF!!)
JAR perfume Shadow
...and that would take care of most of that $500, I believe...
mochachoc, what a beautiful post! I'm a sucker for first love stories, not having really had one myself (I am happily attached, but I was a very pragmatic dater...and never had that kind of...
wearing CK Truth again.
I'm only familiar with Mitsouko :(
But I'm wondering--are you looking to match the 'mood' of the opera? I tend to do this...for me, Mitsouko and Opium are too 'grown up' for Cio-cio-san. I...
Wearing Hanae Mori Butterfly today. In the EDT.
Yep--definitely find out what kinds of smells she likes first! It's very difficult as a complete stranger to suggest something :)
Guerlain: Right now, it's undeniably Cherry Blossom. Usually it's Mitsouko or LHB.
Chanel: Coco (although I can't wear it and I haven't smelled Les Exclusifs)
Yves St. Laurent: Opium
My most beloved, long-lived scents are KM Loukhoum and L'Ombre dans L'Eau. Quikie scents included Lolita Lempicka (I think I've worn this less than 6 times since I first bought it when it was first...
There's a huge difference in using a (hot hot HOT) nekkid dude and making terrible generalizations and characterizations of a generation. Oh, and did I mention the word "technosexual?"
I am equal opportunity fragrance person...that said, the cheapies I like are...
most of the VS scents, even though they do...
Wearing Guerlain Cherry Blossom.
See, I'm worried that it will smell good. I don't want anything with an ad campaign like that to succeed...
Started with Bellodgia, ended with Cherry Blossom.
wore Miss Dior Cherie yesterday :)
I *really* would not enjoy YSL Paris on a guy. Really really.
Wearing Jardins de Bagatelle today.
I would love to come! It would have to be MUCH later in 2007, though, as I am scheduled for the NY Sniffa coming soon...and I can't afford it. I do have quite a few friends in Chicago, though, so I...
ANYTHING by Jo Malone. What that line gets away with is highway robbery!
Yep, same here with the baths and deodorant! Once I notice BO, it's the only thing I can smell.
wearing KM's Loukhoum today :)
I never get compliments at all, lol! It does make sense that more mainstream fragrances appeal to more people, though.
My toes are nekkid at the moment...and I need a pedi badly...
I like a pale pink on them...goes with almost everything because it's almost a neutral on me.
Absolutely! I love drifting off to sleep sniffing clouds and clouds of scent. It's the best feeling ever...when alone, I'll DOUSE myself with the strongest scents and just drift off, high.
I hate to admit this, but I'm a huge fan of the Escada summer scents. They scream SUMMER to me...YES, they're fruity floral and girl and totally unoriginal, but I wear because I like, and I like them...
Right now, it would be KM Loukhoum and Diptyque's L'Ombre dans L'Eau!
Eau des Merveilles!!!
One of my favorite roses is Evelyn by Crabtree and Evelyn. It's a big, pure rose soliflore...no musk to speak of, and definitely not delicate (like, say, some of the Goutals are). Good luck on your...
Wearing Une Fleur de Chanel!
Joining the Mitsouko parfum bandwagon!
Tigs, Happy BIRTHDAY!!!!
Chergui, and, like Jasmin de grasse, as many Gobin Daudes as I can find.
Decided on Shalimar light, for some reason not feeling Shalimar straight-up today (well, the spring rain had something to do with that...)
I totally missed the first Guerlain thread...but here's what I'm planning:
Alls I gotta say is...
I especially LOVE this line:
I was really surprised that I could wear Fracas. VERY surprised. I had never been able to wear Tuberose before.
But these are so restrictive!!! *brain explodes at multitude fragrances that are more than one or all of these*
Calypso Christian Celle Vanilla
Well, my b/f has NEVER given me a positive reaction to ANYTHING I've ever worn. Ever.
That said, I never spray enough perfume on to really leave a sillage. So no one's ever commented positively...
Wearing bond no. 9's West Side.
Though I have never smelled anything from Penhaligon's, I would think that Mary Poppins would indeed wear something from them.
