One of my favorites! The green tea in New Tabarome.
Thanks for the replies everyone. When I don't "get" a scent I try and try in order to share that special feeling about it that everyone else has found.
I've tried it again and just don't like it....
These people need to be reported to their managers. Only in that way will they be made examples of and hopefully stop, that holier than thou mentality really ticks me off more than anything.
Madini Fez seems to fit the bill. Give it a try, a cheap thrill.
I thoroughly enjoyed this post.
I bought this a couple years back when everyone on BN raved about it. I never really liked it though, it's too synthetic and harsh (is it ginger, almost burns the back of my nose). But the reviews...
I have this as well. It's superb. Don't really catch much marine or milky notes in there, but very smoky, leathery, ambery, and multifaceted.
For the price it couldn't be natural though.
I think everyone will enjoy this. This is the blog be the owner (I presume) of Oriscent and his travels to find oudh:
I smell a BN Flavor of the Month!!!!
that thing is a beaty! i 2nd the eau sauvage
Hmmm. Good point. Well, it's worth a shot either way...no harm done.
aww. i feel all warm inside.
Wow, nice thread on iris scents. Just to clarify though, I meant that we have links for all types of notes in one place (ie iris was just used as an example). Keep 'em coming!
We always have recurring the best lily, iris, leather etc. threads and i think it would be useful to make a master thread linking all of them. This is the first step.
I'm a first year medical student, and we're taking a neuroscience class. One of our topics was olfaction, so if you'd like to see the notes (they are pretty technical, but still may be...
You can't hold out...add fuel to our fires!
Kouros is one of my fav scents, but i HATE the topnotes, and always apply only if i know i won't be in public for an hour. After that, it's all smooth sailing as it has an amazing drydown that just...
this blog is amazing. everyone must read it!
Thanks Sandy, I realized that I've been limiting myself to only cheap designers the whole 2.5 years I've been in this hobby (which there are a ton of amazing ones btw). Instead now I just want to...
Wow. Thanks for the great list so far everyone.
So it looks like the bottom line is: You Can't Call Yourself A Basenoter Until you've spent a couple decades in this hobby!
very very useful.
I know it's been done before, but I tried every possible search to get the great classics or must try scents for every collecter etc. and had no luck.
Some must try scents that I just keep...
I wish the wardrobe function was working................
I want to be in the same camp, even though I'm just starting from a moderately sized collection of 30. That means a ton of testing!
That's what I'm talkin about!
Very interesting. Do you have the link for the original article? Or do we have to pay for it?
this is great thanx
Throw Aoud Cuir d'Arabie in the mix too. either you'll love it or hate it. i love it :)
Hey Romantic, thanks for the thoughtful post!
You raise some good points and of course with fragrance or any obsession really there is no end point. I feel right now that the collection of gems...
I think the poll turned out as expected on a forum such as ours.
So it seems like there are really two paths to take once you get more and more interested in fragrances.
1) Get a huge collection of everything you like, including what you consider 3/4 star...
This sounds awesome! Please count me in.
I also agree like a previous reviewer that it smells A LOT like purple label by rl. and i'm surprised no one here has really stressed the florals. i get violet leaves throughout blending with vanilla...
This is really tough to answer since the aluminum bottle is so light that it automatically feels like there's not much inside.
I sure hope it's not so..........
Science-heavy books are fine since I'm a medical student. Sometimes it's nice to take a break from all of that though :).
That's a very well thought out post. Thanks everyone for the replies.
I got some really great info, really appreciate it. Of course all I really heard about before was Chandeler Burr and Luca Turin.
Will definitely look into these.
I was thinking about this after reading the thread about houses that should be discussed more often. So I know that some houses have a certain aesthetic or purpose in mind, such as Malle getting...
Hey everyone, haven't posted in a while so hope everyone is doing well.
I wanted to pick some books that people recommend.
Emperor of Scent I've heard a lot about, as well as Mandy Aftel's...
I've pretty much taken a step back from fragrances because I have many more important things going on right now, and frankly don't have the time to read and enjoy this wonderful world of ours. That...
Habit Rouge has a lot of spice and warm vanilla/leather based drydown. But strong citrus opening so don't know if this is what you had in mind.
Fahrenheit was my first bought fragrance. Wearing it right now and in a state of euphoria. :)
Fahrenheit bought in 2002.
Cool idea for a thread.
I finally got my parcel as well. The second I opened my mailbox I could smell a very sweet scent and knew they'd arrived.
I ordered: 1x100ml Aoud Cuir D'Arabie
Freebies: 1x100ml Aoud Cuir...
So I don't know the details, but YSL limits its distribution of many of its fragrances. If you live in a big city, you can see if they have a YSL Boutique and check out the whole line there.
I was in Turkey the summer before last for a month with my parents sightseeing. Loved it and smoked A LOT of narguile of course!
Indie. Glad to see you got our back. :)
This was exactly what I was looking for! Thanks everyone!
It's funny, I think pretty much whenever there's a new flavor/craze on BN is when I end up buying that scent. But hey, I trust you guys...
Someone got me thinking about this in the GG thread. Yeah we really do start talking about one or too fragrances for a while, then hear nothing about them for a long time. Can anyone remember all of...
We always hear about those powerhouse scents from the 80's. But how are the other decades characterized?
I just emailed them last night at: email@example.com
This address was given before in this thread itself. I got a reply in half an hour (I sent it at 1:30 AM Central Time). I told them I got no...
Ya I was cracking up at the mine smells better comment as well.
Great reviews Vibert. Sadly I've only had the opportunity to smell 4 of them.
Black Aoud I never thought had any evolution...
Where are people finding R de Capucci for cheap? I can only find it for 20 for 1oz.
DARE here as well.
So you didn't ask the guy, which saved you a moment of awkwardness, but now for hours you've been thinking about the same issue!!
Most people are going to fall into #2, including myself.
Very interesting and I tend to think about this quite often. Yes, imho it is human nature to always want more and never be satisfied. This is in part due to the fact that in this age of modernity we...
It is really refreshing to see that established members don't know the classifications either, because I sure am lost (esp. the differences between chypre and fougere).
I feel that alongside...
[QUOTE=sanatik;1079554]Terre d´hermes: when i am using my wrist i can smell it after 6 hours but normally i use my neck and don´t recognize it after maixmal 1 hour. others smell this 4 hour...
I was told this about Geir as well, by the same friend who said Kouros smells like pee. Crazy isn't it, where'd he make that connection?
Has Luca Turin said anything about this subject? Being a biophysicist I think he would have a more definitive opinion.
Also agree on JHL here, plus Michael by Michael Kors
Be sure to let us know how it turns out lol!
So I called Florence, remember they're 7 hours ahead of us, try calling at 2-3AM central time to catch them at 10AM. She emailed me the list of Montale stock they have left:
Actually, I know someone that threw away an Opium PH because his friends said he smelled like an old man.
I don't know THAT much about jeans, but like some of the more conservative Energie jeans.
That's it! I'm moving the collection back into the fridge!
BA makes a statement. A mysterious one at that, so keep that in mind. I like to wear it when I'm in a reflective mood or when I want to impress.
Same here. Just be sure that you're going to be in this hobby for the long run :).
Guerlain Vetiver is great and cheap (scentiments.com). There's A LOT of info in old threads (search function) and reviews.
Another popular one that's easy to like is D&G PH.
A little more...
A swiss store carrying the line is not going to carry it anymore , hence a 50% off sale.
The website with the sale is gone, but you can still email the contact directly and ask for the stock still...
While moving into a room in the dorms for college, my friend threw one of my bags on the floor, which contained Gucci PH.
Luckily the huge bottle cracked and chipped, but nothing leaked.
After people started with the powder analogy, Gold will never be the same for me. Silver and Dia I like quite a bit, and it seems like I must try out Reflection now.
Does anyone know what's the...
lol, the same thing happened to me!
From my sample (which never gives me the true wearing as from a spray bottle), the leather note fades after about 3 hours and it becomes a skin scent, but it lasts as a skin scent forever!
Just sampled Royal English Leather. WOW!
This stuff just blew me away....
I think you need to be at least 40 to wear it though. :(
im interested in this as well, if the responses could state whether its long lasting or not, it would be appreciated.
I voted for M7 because it opened by a door and took a risk greater than any of the others listed imo.
BTW I guess I need to try Dior Homme again, but last time I thought it was just blah...
I ordered 100ml Black Aoud and Aoud Limes
Got 50ml Skin
was slightly hoping for more...
I can't find the website. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I believe it's in another language.
Still searching and there are so many that I love right now. The amazing thing is the great variety that we're getting in this post, which is a testament to the individuality of perfume and our...
I would looooove to read this in english!
Interestingly enough, in Muslim culture the dead body always is washed by close family members, and then attar are applied to the body and garb that the body is wrapped in before it is placed into...

There was a review on saffron from this collection on one of the perfume blogs (bois de jasmin, now smell this, etc.... cant remember sorry).
Any oily and think oriental. Jaipur edp comes to mind first.
I was hoping someone would revive this thead! Thanks Trebor...
I just emailed Montale at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
They said the website is going to go down, but the sale will still be on....
Do rose scents usually have saffron??? Or you just don't like the note?
Why oh why did I have to check this thread again today!
Once I saw Black Aoud was up again I couldn't hold back (picked up Aoud Lime as well).
Now the waiting game..............
Do you know what their prices are like (just the average range for ouds)?
I might give them a call and see if they can ship to the US.
I was just in Morocco this summer. Maybe this can bring back some fond memories!
You're referreing to Black XS, which is totally different from normal XS.
SL's Chergui is supposed to be based on some desert wind blowing through the Moroccan Sahara.
When I was in Medinah I tried this scent and it was simply intoxicating. Yeah it was simple but that is how oils generally smell imho.
And Arabian Oud is a very well known and high end provider...
