Mitzah by Dior
I tried it in sephora in Paris
It was a big meh for me, though I was hoping I'd like it because of the cool bottle.
I got a very floral start , slightly fruity. Obviously feminine because of...
Their best IMHO is fils de dieu by far.
Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man ... Got a compliment by a woman i know on the first time i wore DHI.
I guess since 2011 the OP have made his mind about that tough...
Comme des garçons : Black
DS & Durga : Mississipi Medicine
Slumberhouse : Norne
Dior l'Eau noire (i have a 5ml decant i was offered at the dior counter... so nice)
PG Aomassai and also Hyperessence matale (as different as it gets :) )
DH and DHI (yeah... i know i am late...
Parfumerie Générale : Hyperessence Matale carries a subtle mint note but it's not the main character or as obvious as in Cartier Roadster.
Treasure : 2 splash bottles of Egoiste that I own since the 90's , it was the first perfume I wore.
Most me : Sables by Annick Goutal , it just feels like "home" when I wear it. :)
"Could do better" ... hem well, thank you my friend. That I know ;). That's why I only asked about those three .
Just having fun with these 3 specific frags, not comparing anything here.
As far as my experience goes, after a first quick sniff that you ll clearly have to do :) , choose one per day and give it a full wearing .
Those frags really live on your skin.
Yes "herbal medicinal" fits the bill !
I tried "debaser", but actually wasn't really fond of it. It's far more fruity et sweety, with fig and maybe coconut ? More on the feminine side, IMO. And not...
yeah absolutely, me too.
Beautiful offering from this great house.
I own and love a few of them including this one. (mississipi medicine, burning barbershop, and freetrapper that i offered to my wife)
One thing they have...
I'd say stick with the original.
i am bringing this back because i am currently hesitating between those 3, or maybe 2...
To the OP, the cologneist, I was wondering what choice did you make ?
I tested the 3 in...
karma and voice of reason are my favorites. Sometimes i find that those fragrance can be very strong and leading towards headaches. It's just too bad the new ones doesn't come with sprayers imo.
Hello everyone, here are my 2 cents :
I just tried it yesterday, and after what i've read about it, i was prepared to be disappointed, although... i was secretly hoping something good. :)
I did, and absolutely agree with colin-maillard.
Behind the marketing veil these are very common and boring scents. I tried them in Paris at "liquides" which is also a big joke, where a woman...
haha ! +1
I own it and really enjoy it.
I discovered it in Sephora, while testing a few frags with my 6 yo daughter who "accidentally" sprayed it on my wrist while i was holding the paper strip for her......
Patchouli absolu is outstanding, and the whole line is imo pretty high level
Well...good for you !
I personally find your statement, very ambitious, and pretty hilarious !
To each his own...
Most definitely +1 for memoirs of a trespasser
I had a chance to smell it again and even get a little decant by the very nice SA in le bon marché in Paris, and did a 180 on this one.
What a fantastic juice ! Beautiful patchouli balanced with à...
Today I'm giving this one a full wearing, and I am really enjoying it a lot ! A great balance between vanilla and myrrh, soft and spicy at the same time, and as stated above, I am getting different...
Cowboy grass by ds durga 36614
i've a crush on spicembomb, i love the pepper-y opening, and the smell sends me back to childhood and the smell of pencil erasers ... haha !
Great suggestions above.
Valentino Uomo is Nice too imo.
I was amazed to receive two strong compliments by some colleagues while wearing Norne, with something like "this one is so great and ... Spicy ! " :)
Well it is a great scent indeed ... But...
That was wonderfully written !
On the not so expensive side I could advise you to check out :
Annick Goutal Encens Flamboyant, DS Durga Freetrapper, or Comme des garçons Black ...
Good hunt !
Etat libre d'orange Eloge du traître is quite piney IMO, mixed with laurel too.
Never smelled 1881, but recently bought the flanker "bella note", very fresh with a pepper-y side to it that i enjoy a lot.
Quite original, and safe too.
So curious about this one.
This house makes brilliant juices so i am confident they will deliver something interesting.
As surprising and unique as the music it's based upon...
Oriza Legrand : Relique d'amour
Cold mossy Stone...
Oh I'll hunt for that ... Love the juice and the original bottle is already great.
But this black bottle is a beauty.
Thanks for the info

+1 For Speakeasy by Frapin, for the rum part. Not for the oceanic though.
It is indeed !
By Kilian's best offering IMO. It is a real gem for patchouli and smoky scents lovers.
Ds durga Mississippi medicine
Annick Goutal Sables
Pretty strong stuff with wonderful drydown... Opening is a bit harsh, but then it's very nice. Quite classical and i think it can vary a lot upon skin chemistry.
Someone mentioned Royal oud by...
i just bought it (LIDGE) last week and only wore it twice. Got a great compliment btw :) .
My first impressions are good, and i get some patchouli / hazelnut vibe... with quite "natural" notes. A...
Got a mini of this one from the Jovoy boutique, it's a very nice one. Somehow it reminded me of égoiste.
+1 for CDG original
and Parfumerie générale COZE
"à fond !"
+ 1 for Norne, obviously.
I'd check the Juniper Ridge line also, maybe more for the spooky side than the sensual one. :)
You could try Odin 07 Tanoke, didn't see it mentioned.
CDG 2 man also.
Memoirs of a trespasser by imaginary authors has some wood next to the vanilla, so why not.
Slumberhouse Norne, on the...
Straight to Heaven, is indeed heavenly. :)
Yes they did last year, and I got a bottle of jeke.
Straight to heaven, is out of this world...
Just unique and so "on the edge" of all it's components...between earthy patchouli, intoxicating smoke and rhum...it's a gem, IMO.
I recently tried...
Oh yeah sure ! Many memories ...
eau sauvage : my father,
acqua di gio, montana : my best friends,
eau d'orange verte : my grandmother,
eau d'issey + cigarettes : my aunt
spice bomb : fun...
Just blind bought a bottle and ... shall see what it's about !
What surprises me is that, indeed, it has won the 2014 best men's fragrance by basenotes' readers, and yet here on BN, this frag...
I own and like PH, with which I don't get any cherry vibe but more some honey and roasted coffe feel, added to the a*men DNA.
PW was a no-go for me as its indeed sort of creamy wood wasn't at all...
I like to wear Spice Bomb after swimming, mostly because it's the only fragrance among my favorites that i found in a mini size (30ml) which is really handy to carry around :). And also because it...
Well, it seems Gorilla perfume volume 3 DEath, decay and renewal has not yet arrived in France, so no unfortunately...
Affaire à suivre ;)
I've been advised to try it by my friend The Silver Fox, maybe some of you know he's fantastic perfume blog, and I 'm planning to do so asap.
Will come back for impressions then.
I received the patchouli pack from luckyscent today, and quickly smelled this one.
After the nice patch opening it turns into something a bit "soapy" and also has that same synthetic vibe i found...
i might be wrong here but i remember thinking of almond, in a very soft and nice way when i smelled F. Malle Dries Von Neuten . Not too sweet either.
Thank you for your feedback.
right now i'll have a hard time describing it because i haven't smelled it in a while, and don't have any of it left (i think...).
It comes in little sticky pieces...
I also ordered the sample pack but it has not yet arrived.
I already know StH, which I really like but my wife already wears it :) ...
I also like Karma from gorilla perfumes but it has also a...
I'm on a green, dry, earthy mood :) so i'm using my samples and considering :
CDG 2man (longevity seems an issue)
Terre d'Hermès (have to grab a sample actually)
French Lover (beautiful)
Neither one or the other for me.
I was facing the same dilemma :) a few days ago, here :http://www.basenotes.net/threads/388687-Pure-Wood-vs-Pure-Coffee
I finally smelled PW in Sephora and it...
Odin 07 Tanoke is pretty woody IMO.
(But maybe not designer ... :))
As far as i have checked here in Lyon, recently while looking for Pure Wood, it was pretty much depending upon the place... Beside A*men, some had Pure malt, and or/pure Havane, some pure shot .......
I only own Spicebomb and know DH by having smelled it on friends.
I find DH to be a bit cloying, and wouldn't be tempted to wear it. And i like SB a lot, though clearly not in an objective way (if...
I just smelled it on my office co-worker, thought it was Declaration. He told me it was TdH. No piss at all ! But not either the souvenir of what i smelled on me when testing it. ... Strange. :)
I own Norne and some samples of Fille en Aiguilles. It's been a while since i smelled the latter, but i've always liked it.
I'd say FeA is more linear than Norne, but not that much more versatile....
+1 Dior Eau Noire
+1 CdG Black
I remember this fantastic scent i first smelled on a friend... i asked her what perfume it was, but actually it was only the scent of the incense that was impregnated in her clothes....
I don't. The few times I did that I just regretted it. So no more.
The scent has a "life" on the skin and let it be. It just doesn't feel the same as the first sprays of the day.
For me it's like...
Either your skin chemistry just doesn't get along with this one or maybe you oversprayed a bit...
Last time I wore it my wife told me it's a real smooth (doux) perfume.
+ 1 cdg Black, but maybe also Avignon, and Wonderwood
Annick Goutal Encens Flamboyant
Honoré des prés Chaman's party
by Kilian Straight to Heaven
My SO loves Mississipi Medicine too, a...
Can not reach ten as of now, but it's a great thread to go through the best of the "mainstream" (no disrespect) offerings.
I have still a lot to try, and i am enjoying reading all your answers. ...
I am indeed interested by the list of notes here !
Never tried any of the line but now i will look forward to.
The packaging is not my cup of tea but, that would'nt be big of a deal if it smells...
Slumberhouse's odd poetry is quite beautiful imo, and the juices are up to it.
Since I really like the original as well as PH ...
I'm still stuck. Haha !
It's been a while since I've smelled them, moreover not on the same day, but I remember that la fumée ottoman was my favourite.
Hello fellow BN'ers,
The french Mugler website is offering some discount for a few days (20 to 25% off), and i might pull the trigger on one or two A*men flanker(s)...
I really dig A*men...
Patchouli for me and my wife loves their Musc
The sprayer on my bottle of speakeasy by Frapin is fantastic, and is one that stands out from the others. Very hard, and also very precise.
And she is right !
Egoiste was the first perfume i bought back in the 90's based on the advice of a girlfriend. Not the SO but anyway, she was driven by goodwill :).
The last time she (S.O.) had...
Eau de frohliche #3 is like a silver sword to my nose. So ... Metallic , yes.
Al Oudh is interesting indeed but on me it evolves like an old grandma's perfume.
Chaman's party by Honoré des prés is very smoky. The drawback is its poor lasting power. :(
I also was told that Burning Barbershop by DS & Durga could fit your description.
I have been litterally forced to smell it on a test strip by a salesperson in sephora. Didn't care for it at all.
I love A*men and it's the only one i own of the line, as of today. I'm still exploring the flankers before buying a FB, and yet haven't smelled MC.
After a few smelling sessions it seems PH and PL...
I don't prefer any of the three, but i do like just a few of their respective offerings.
It would be CdG Black, l'Artisan Havana Vanille, and Penhaligon's Juniper sling.
Too bad it's just on mugler.USA ... :( . Not available right now in France, I'm waiting for an customer service email about the date of availability.
Just saying but the bottle doesn't look as...
I tried it also a week ago, buy only on paper.(my arms were already full...)
Well I thought It smells good and my wife too. So I'll test it on skin in a near future.
What's funny is that the scent...
Well, I love A*men, like PH et don't care about PM.
If you turn that upside down, you might like PM ... ! :)
Well... It seems that's pretty much the opposite that happened !
Here in France with the heat going on ... I guess the right scent is the one that is just going to evolve nicely on a sweaty skin...
My vote goes to A*men.
Spicebomb reminds me of the smell of a pencil eraser when I was a kid. Not a bad smell though, but the cocoa-patchouli combo has much more depth, power, presence to my nose.
Sables is one of my all time favourite. Such a masterpiece.
+1 for Eau Noire
And "L'etre aimé" By Divine
Just tried it for the first time yesterday, along with pure malt and the original (yeah never too late ;) !) well i was nicely surprised.
I only tried Pure Havane on my wrist, cause on the paper it...
In a row ?
Ok sorry I just couldn't help it. Kevin Smith's fans will get it. :)
I'm between 20 and 30, just too lazy to check. I think I'll get rid of 2 or 3, and keep on exploring ...
Sounds interesting, thanks ! I will be looking forward to smell that.
