Huh. Interesting. My experience has been that everything (including fragrances) is cheaper in the U.S. than here in Europe. I'll be in the States next week and will be able to compare.
Thanks, Hednic. Should arrive tomorrow or so. Will post first impressions. I'm hoping I don't find it similar to Dior Homme, which some people have mentioned.
Montale Aoud & Pine. Looking forward to my first "Middle Eastern Montale".
Can't get the link to pic to work.
The masculine, simple elegance of Fougere Royale (2010).
Limiting myself to one each (as per the thead rules;)):
Love - leather
Hate - anise
Interesting how often anise has been named in this thread. I can't take it even in small amounts. Killed...
Another vote for 1 Million Intense. (Don't like the original, however - the mint note ruins it for me.)
Looking forward to wearing it again in cold weather.
EDIT: After posting this, I decided...
Interesting. I don't get that at all. They clearly have a common note, the same (chemical) cocktail also found in Dueto Golden Boy and Charriol Royal Leather. However, while Tuscan Leather has a...
I also prefer Original Santal to Aventus. Yes, the top notes of O.S. are difficult, but the reward is in the gorgeous spicy, creamy-woody drydown, which lasts and lasts.
Yes, Aoud Musk is potent and gorgeous - my favorite Montale so far. As is often remarked, it has a lot of similarities with Nasomatto Duro.
Another vote for fall and winter. More broadly speaking, the eight months featuring an "r" in their name tend to work better with my heavy use of fragrance than the other four.
The colder and...
This month: Tom Ford Tobacco Oud and Acqua di Parma Colonia Intensa Leather.
Montale Aoud Musk. Like it a lot!
I placed an order for this one yesterday... after only one try a week earlier. The opening is very heavy on the citrus, which AdP does very well, of course. A gorgeous burst of lemon. Then there are...
Rive Gauche pour Homme. Just can't do anise.
Creed Original Vetiver is one of my favorites in the heat.
Nice coniferous notes but very, very weak on me. As mentioned above, an intense version would be worth pursuing.
Also love Original Vetiver. It's a mainstay I always come back to in the warmer months, year after year.
Looks like the NST listing is wrong - it it indeed an EdP according to this source:
20ish, not including back-ups.
Will also need to try this. Surprised (and disappointed) to see that it's an EdT, not EdP like Intense.
Good news! I love the smell of the shower gel - will definitely have to try this.
Two leathers this month:
Dueto Golden Boy, Charriol Royal Leather
Continuing my current leather fixation, I've just blind bought this one. Any more thoughts to share on it?
Dueto Golden Boy arrived yesterday - very nice. The violet leaf harmonizes surprisingly...
Creed Bois du Portugal is perfect for such environments.
So do I. Czech & Speake's Oxford & Cambridge is one of my favorite bedtime fragrances.
Picked up 100ml of Tuscan Leather last week. When the stuff first came out years ago, I was intrigued by a sample but not ready to buy. It remained in my smell memory, though, and I got an urge for...
Nasomatto Duro and Montale Aoud Musk. Quite close!

Same here. Years ago, I bought samples (directly from Malle) and was very disappointed... and perplexed. VE smelled like nothing more than chemicals. I think it was lighter fluid that it reminded me...
Six-year-old thread... I was in the 20-30 bottles group back then, now 50-60.
In my work bag, I've got a little nylon case for essentials: five or six atomizers of some of my favorites plus assorted pills. :-)
Especially by non-Basenotes' standards, the Montale aouds are certainly weird.
Unfortunately, it seems they've weakened over the past years. My old (mid-2000s) sample of Aoud Cuir d'Arabie was...
Agree with Givenchy, Original Vetiver and Racine. I'd also add Floris Vetiver and Bel Ami Vetiver.
Just blind bought Esencia Loewe. :-)
Bois du Portugal is absolutely brilliant, a masterpiece.
Very nice responses.
My taste in fragrances (in large part due to time spent here over the last eight years!) seems to have become more discerning and 'educated'. Scents that I couldn't appreciate...
Oh my. The blind buy bug has struck. Aoud & Pine will be mine. :-)

Yes, Yatagan here too. I found it repulsive. Bel Ami?! That's a holy grail contender for me!
Memo: Irish Leather
Thanks, hednic. Glad to see I'm not alone! Most of the online reviews I've seen are negative. That made me a little wary while testing, lol. Really looking forward to the full bottle. My sample's...
I've just ordered Irish Leather. It's an herbal, slightly bitter, very dry combination of iris and leather. I'm usually not into fragrances with dominant iris, but this stuff is quite a treat. Got...
Just ordered my birthday present (about 4 weeks too early, but who's counting?):
It's not in the Basenotes...
I also do a lot of blind buying and love the excitement of it. After many years, I've become better at it, i.e. much better able to predict what'll work for me.
Well, in addition to the expensive stuff I've bought over the past few months, I've also been craving Tabac Man (Mäurer & Wirtz), a total cheapie. Bought two bottles! It's a lot more classically...
I'd also recommend Michael Kors from your list. Get it while you can - this one strikes me as a likely discontinuation candidate.
Also, give Aramis Havana a try. And the tobacco note in Spicebomb...
I bought mine last week and am really enjoying it! So far, my only complaint about Bel Ami Vetiver has been less-than-stellar longetivity. But after only two full wearings so far, I'd like to give it...
That might have been me. It's what I said in one of my first posts at Basenotes (2006). Recently tried it again, including the EdP, and am unfortunately still getting exactly that vibe. Yuck.
They're both gorgeous, but, to be honest, I also find both quite femme (not even unisex). That's probably why I rarely use them.
Favorite recent blind buy: Bentley for Men Intense
Splurged over the last few weeks:
Duc de Vervins L'Extreme - looking forward to this blind buy, should arrive soon
Wonderwood - love the drydown; longevity disappointing
Spicebomb - really like...
Mine too, followed closely by Original Vetiver.
Creed Original Vetiver!
Megamav, do yourself a favor and come back to your sample after a while. Tiffany for Men - just like Bois du Portugal - didn't click immediately for me, but later became indispensible.
I simply ADORE Tiffany for Men. It's one of my two signature scents, the other being Bois du Portugal.
As to your question regarding unisex tendencies, I'd say not at all. The powder is...
Every day, several times - doesn't everyone? If I'm working from home, I get cravings for scents, so I sometimes have more than three on at a time. Always apply before bed, too.
Quite a few. My favorites at the moment:
Prada Amber pour Homme
Trussardi Uomo 2011 (yes, the new one!)
1 Million Intense
Late to the party. I tested Spicebomb a couple of weeks ago for the first time and now have a bottle. Liking it a lot - especially the use of tobacco! Don't know why some have dismissed SB as a kids'...
Bois du Portugal!
Creed Bois du Portugal
Tiffany for Men
Prada Amber pour Homme
Bentley for Men Intense
1 Million Intense and Absolutely Gold
My first thought would be no - not a safe blind buy. From what you've said about your friend's tastes, he's into sweet stuff. Encre Noire is dank and earthy, quite the opposite of anything sweet. ...
Yes! After I tried it, I found it just okay. But still, because everyone seems to love it, I bought it! Kept it for about half a year, trying to figure out what I was missing. Ultimately sold it.
Chanel pour Homme Concentreé - Choose Tiffany
Rive Gauche pour Homme - Anise Gillette
Guerlain Vetiver - Bitter Disinfectant
Prada pour Homme Intense - Patchouli Incense
Prada pour Homme -...
Yes, but the fact that he's losing sleep over ANY fragrance shows he belongs here.
Eamon, get out there and sample, sample, sample!
Yes - was just about to suggest it!
Prominent nutmeg along with sweet woods, cardamom, tonka and a tangerine kick at the top.
Well, I've now ordered the intense version - blind. Until a couple of days ago, I wasn't even aware that there were Bentley fragrances. Then I started seeing them mentioned here frequently -...
An interesting and thoughtful review; I respectfully disagree, however. I just tried 1 Million Intense several days ago, got a sample, and am really liking it. Am doing a full wearing today for the...
Ah! Thank you very much, Ipp, that solved the problem!:dankk2:
When I click "Forum" at the top, which is supposed to go to the main forum page (http://www.basenotes.net/forum.php), I get the "404 - Page Not Found" error at http://www.basenotes.net/f/
Michael For Men (Michael Kors) is a fantastc evening scent for the cooler months.
Another vote for Tiffany for Men!
Chanel pour Monsieur - beautiful but oh so fleeting.
Tiffany for Men
Three Pradas: Amber, Amber Intense, Infusion D'Homme
Another vote for Le Male - nasty, nasty stuff.
Indeed. That has been my experience, too. Many of my current favorites weren't appealing to me at first.
Czech & Speake Oxford and Cambridge is a great bedtime scent - soothing lavender.
Bois du Portugal, as much as I love it, has only average longevity on me. Most people seem to find it exceptionally long-lasting. Go figure.
I love many vetivers but also found Encre Noire to be too synthetic/unnatural/chemical-smelling - though I did enjoy it for the first half hour.
Prada Amber pour Homme - regular and Intense!
I have and like them both, but I've really become smitten with Prada Amber Intense. Layering it with the regular Prada Amber pour Homme is very, very nice. Since the Prada is apparently a limited...
If longevity is an important factor (as it is for me), vetivers are often the better citrus fragrances, e.g. Creed Original Vetiver, Guerlain Vetiver.
I bought it right after its release and very much wanted to like it. Didn't, though, because it struck me as quite synthetic (heavy on the Iso E Super?). Have you tried Givenchy's Vetyver? The...
Creed Bois du Portugal
Prada Amber pour Homme Intense
Tiffany for Men
Bois du Portugal - anytime, anywhere. (Just not too much in the heat.)
I never wear undershirts. I tend to be warm as is, so wearing an extra layer would make that worse. If a dress shirt is starting to show armpit stains, it's time to replace that shirt.
Oh, and if...
A few on hairy matters. Don't:
...let your mustache grow over your upper lip. Where your upper lip starts, your mustache should end. Trim it regularly.
...think that having a beard requires...
It's reeeeeeeeally bad for me tonight, too. Nearly impossible to use... Has no one heard what's going on?
Bois du Portugal
What a shame. I also order from UK shops. Guess that's over for now.
*EDIT* For Basenoters in the US: since I'll be in the US next week, I'd be willing to take some fragrances along and send from there - meaning at cheap US rates instead of insanely expensive Austrian...
The following carefully stored fragrances are up for swap (or sale). I prefer to swap within the EU but will ship anywhere when very interested. :D
Brand new bottles (mostly back-ups I've...
