Cactus Garden - Louis Vuitton
Not strictly a 'citrus' but very summery, containing Tea, Bergamot and Lemongrass. It just sparkles in cold weather.

that's pricey for Coty
prefer it to 'fumes', which sounds petrolheady
I tested Metallique by Tom Ford recently --- couldn't smell a thing
Le Male is a polar opposite
You can't detect oregano?
wear a light brown jumper and pour some over it
I think Puredistance M has facets, the cumin, rose and jasmine and it's quite dry and 'hot'. If it dropped the leather, the similarity would increase imo.
It is one occasion where I don't wear a fragrance -- I sort of don't want to draw attention to myself
I have been to one and then gone on to work, so took a fragrance in my shoulder bag for after
Sweet Sticky Cake - Comme des Garcons
Despite the name -- a seriously good fragrance
None
A complete fallacy and con trick.
Save your money -- get a fragrance instead!
Maybe you can get your hands on a vintage bottle of TSAR ?
well worth posting :dankk2:
L'Envol -- Cartier
Le Beau - Gaultier
+1
There are blocky square clear bottles, pure black bottles, re-treated juices (MKK), hardly any 50ml --- it's a bit of a mess
A polarising fragrance here, but I think Original Santal by Creed works very well in an office environment. It's warm, affable and smells great.
By the way, I cannot wear Joop but love the Creed,...
Vetiver and Grapefruit by Molton Brown
A fine fragrance from an unloved House -- and doesn't cost an arm and a leg
There are a lot of PuH lovers on Basenotes.
Personally, I have never found it as interesting or special to wear as The Third Man, which for me is one of the best male fragrances ever.
That surprises me.
In the UK, I would expect Eros, Sauvage, Invictus, Polo Black to be well in front of ES
Reformulated old Serge Lutens fragrances are still better than most offerings out there, especially for newbies.
The re-packaging is a different matter -- I find it totally confusing
No. They won't sell because they are not super sweet bubblegum concoctions.
I see these old fragrances gathering dust in the 'reduced' racks every week.
I avoid Dunhill fragrances now
1828 - HdP
Go to office scent for me -- perfect
I think I'll give the big stores in London a swerve now and head for Orly Airport for fragrances
I wouldn't put it past ELDO to create a flanker exactly the same. Calling it something else may be auto-suggestive to human brains, i.e. if we expect a different smell, our brains perceive one.
...
My favourite of the line -- why did they have to pull it?
1725 Casanova - HdP
A warm beautiful fougere
Mademoiselle - Chanel
Cheap smelling -- headache inducing --Yuck
I always think that women who wear this would like men wearing Sauvage
They can both then go off stinking into the sunset
Being Dior, it sort of makes it worse it for me.
I'd be prepared to cut some slack if Sauvage was by Abercrombie & Fitch, i.e. it would be following a theme of theirs
I certainly can with Sauvage
1. Not much effort involved
2. Smells like it retails at $2
I'm sorry but the 'bullshit detector' alarm on my desk has activated
The whole narrative is intellectually pretentious and artificial and actually makes little sense
Having said that, I'd like...
Fig and Neroli - EPC
Beautiful pairing
Very interested in Zeste Mandarine -- I really liked the original ZMP and thought it was unfairly slated on longevity issues
it's like a shrine
Rochas Man
Eau Duelle
I agree with Rum -- personally, I find it a bit 'dense'
Personally, I doubt whether any Mysore is used now -- it's just too expensive, especially if you can use so many synth versions.
I didn't find Creeds' Santal Imperial very 'creamy' -- it was...
a 'subtle skin scent' ?????
wtf has Estee Lauder done?
I agree with Bavard
Aramis have a very nice range of reasonably priced fragrances and in the same vein, so do Molton Brown
In 2010, I can't think of another mens fragrance that paired pineapple with smoke
I think we are spoilt for choice now -- Aventus has almost revolutionised mens fragrances.
In 2010, in the week it was launched and when I first tried it, I literally had to sit down and savour it...
Amour De Cacao -- CSP
Le Beau -- Gaultier
Simple but just right for the cold
oh, man -- those old sprayers -- u could cover the whole neck with one press
I don't believe all the brickbats AL is receiving -- he is a genius imo
From Armani Code (a full-on blockbuster) to Secretions Magnifiques (horrible, but, arguably a masterpiece), this guy is...
Mainstream - Bottega Veneta Pour Homme
Designer - Prada Amber Intense
Niche - Intoxicated by Kilian
New York Intense -- Nicolai
hopefully you will love it like I do and others working around me
Amber Teutonic -- DS & Durga
Piney, buttery, ambery. coconutty
a fantastic fragrance
pleasant but boring -- I was surprised it got so much comment
+1 Same for me
There are enough 'masculine' and 'unisex' fragrances out there for me to choose from
I think it would be difficult to create a perfume totally unique now -- the perfumers 'palette' is getting smaller if anything. Roja Dove, for example is a complete magpie.
Also, do you want it to...
PO may be Perfume Oil
AC might be Acetyl, a chemical bond
You would probably have more luck in the DIY forum
I would have liked Robert White very much
This is the feeling I picked up from the article -- he is obsessed by time as though there wasn't enough of it ---- a very driven person but cold and detached and a bit paranoid.
........but is he happy :undecided:
only Gomma comes close imo
.........it has everything a man could want from a fragrance
well, I am the designated spokesman for all men and I can honestly say .....
i've come to realise that in 'fragrance world' incense rarely resembles the liturgical version
You need to dress like Beau Brummel and speak and act like Oscar Wilde -- it won't work otherwise
I'm gonna have to check out Celine concessions/accessories in the big stores in London
I mean -- Dior Homme, Mr Slimane is obviously a genius
It will be difficult to prove I would imagine and it would be a write off for Sephora
What's their policy?
La Myhrre - Serge Lutens
Fatty strings smell nicest -- citrusy and soapy. Rive Gauche is full of them
Formaldehyde? -- not so nice
John Varvatos (vintage if you can get it) --- smells like a Christmas cake or pudding
current top 30 or 'of all time' -- there is a big difference imo
I'm a late convert to this House and purchased Cuir Cuba Intense and New York Intense recently and both are getting plenty of 'air time'
Both 'big' fragrances with very nice drydowns
Below are the notes to Hot Leather by Mark Buxton -- which has a floral, creamy and leathery smell
I've no idea how he achieves this
Top Notes
Citrus, Bergamot, Coriander, Mandarine
Heart...
I shall be taking a couple of drinks after work so will be wearing what I've had on all day
Venezia Essenza Pour Homme --- Merchant of Venice
getting some nice leathery wafts from the base...
Sometimes I look at my fragrances and I just want to throw them all out or give them away and just start again
well -- I'm not sure
I'm wearing Le Beau by JPG and I think it is gradually turning into Le Male in the drydown
Do all the flankers end up smelling the same?
sounds about right for 100ml -- I paid £60 for 50ml (they were £39 about 6-12 months ago)
I think it smells similar to the original but with it's balls cut off like no-alcohol beer
I agree but it seems to fit OP's wishes
Vetiver and Grapefruit - Molton Brown
Another great and honest fragrance from this House --- prices have risen by 50% (from a pretty low base though)
Richwood by Xerjoff
$500 won't be enough but this shrieks luxury and has the dubious distinction (for me anyway) of being simultaneously unique and obvious.
I purchased 30ml of L'Eau Intense by Carven a few days ago for less than £30 -- it smells like £200-£300 in the drydown
I don't know whether the 'Fraiche' version is still being made --- that was just about bearable
a most unexpected compliment of 'you smell gorgeous' from a woman in a store in London who I was queuing behind and got chatting to
Light My Fire -- Kilian
I voted for the Prada --- I like the 'soapy' aspects of it and I think it is more versatile than the other two, i.e. suitable for all seasons
Hmm -- it's a bit of a minefield, I admit
I don't know the answer to that -- have you found some that are discontinued but is still saying 'In Production' on here?
Elle is readily available in the UK --- it's in Boots!
Basenotes would state if it has been officially discontinued
I'd add
Yuzu Fou - Parfum D'Empire
Little Italy - Bond
Orange Star - Tauer
I agree with both these opinions
Not blind-buy territory imo
It was in my top 5 leathers recently -- gorgeous
OP didn't give an opinion though -- it was more of a statement of fact
These three Houses sell inexpensive fragrances that could be mistaken for 'niche' quite easily -- I have several from each
Banana Republic
Molton Brown
Laboratory Perfumes
out of the 3 choices, I would definitely go for Azzaro --- it's pretty versatile and not that far removed from the 'vintage' imo
Wrong
It's 1. Aventus 2010
2. Aventus 2018
The other two are nowhere
it just makes life a bit more bearable -- knowing that before I set off for work, I will be choosing a fab fragrance to wear for the day
addiction is difficult to judge -- I don't foam at the...
Sweet Sticky Cake - Comme des Garcons
sweet, sticky and at the same time, airy ---- a very clever fragrance
well, that's two of us who see the Prada it for what it is --- a copy of a superior fragrance (without the lipstick element)
without a doubt
a shout for Estee Lauder's Pleasures also
There is a beautiful celery note in MPG's Grain De Plaisir -- especially in the opening where it is joined by lemon and a sort of 'soapy' freshness.
It's a 'marmite' fragrance but I love it
Eh? 1 bottle is selling for £300 on Ebay at the moment
u can't beat these local pharmacies for not knowing what they've got
I appreciate Yatagan but am unable to like it and I have tried so hard
I tested about ten on the spin and none of them were bottle worthy for me
I don't hate them for that though
that's insane --- what a result!
F...ing Hell --- that's amazing !
I've had a few freebies and tester bottles half full given to me but nothing like that
