The Different Company
I miss Violet
1st wearing from a sample.
I liked the EDT quite a bit, but finally decided to purchase the PP version also. I am a big fan of this one - especially in the fall weather.
It's very fluid based on the season, which I why I generally have seasonal favorites. As much as I love Dior Homme Sport 2008, I don't really consider it in the winter. And as much as I enjoy...
Mine looks like this:
Little hard to read due to iPhone flash, but you should be able to see at least the SCOTTISH LAVENDER part of it.
X for Men (great cold weather scent)
1872 for Men (ideal for warmer spring weather)
yikes. Probably a mistake. I'd bet that will be changed soon.
I will be bored when new fragrances stop being made. No need to try them all (or any) if you don't want to.
Personally, I like options and choices. If I ever feel overwhelmed, I would just sit...
Oriza L. Legrand
Vetiver Royal Bourbon
1 Million Cologne
Why something extreme that projects a lot? Scent shouldn't yell at people.
Sure... Dior Homme probably works well as contact lens solution also. Your eyes would smell great. And don't even get me started on how good Aventus works as mouthwash...
Well, I just blind bought CK One and CH Men a few weeks ago. Those were probably the biggest ones that I hadn't tried.
I would say these are the most known scents that are unknown to me:
As mentioned, nothing very close other than Bois d'Orage (French Lover). Same ballpark, but not quite the same.
I put in a request for Fragrantica to add Montale Aoud Legacy about a year ago. A while later they did. I noticed recently it was gone again. So that is another one they pulled down. I don't keep...
Other than Grey Vetiver,
Bois Marocain (disc.)
Tom Ford for Men
Should all be given a try.
I am realizing that my collection is too big to worry about backups. As recently as last year, I was still getting backups of things I loved, but I see now that I will never come close to finishing...
Yeah, this is bad news. I never thought I would hear a legitimate comment about longevity from any BN9 scent.
From best to worst...
Spiritueuse Double Vanille
Dior Homme Intense
1740 Marquis de Sade
Bentley for Men Intense
Acqua Viva would be my option. Not my favorite citrus, but way up near the top. Costa Azzura is nice, but MI is not to me.
Straight to Heaven is mostly run and patchouli, so it's probably the patchouli you are smelling.
One of my favorites from this house for sure.
Bond No. 9
He was probably on Basenotes earlier that morning complaining about how he needs 6+ sprays since nothing seems to last more than 2 hours these days.
Another victim of Olfactory Fatigue!
"Hype" is a great thing here. A scent that may go relatively unknown otherwise. One person gushes about an obscure scent, so someone else gives it a try. They also talk about how wonderful it...
Mandarin, Neroli & Cedar
Usually 2, but times when I get a lot of samples in, I can wear 3 / day.
The new 51 Pour Homme is versatile as well.
My favorites currently:
Aoud Legacy (a non-oud, summer/sporty Montale)
Not to mention, you own one beautiful bottle. At least it looks amazing in photos - I'm sure that Baccarat bottle is absolutely stunning in person. Far more impressive than the standard MFK bottle...
I wouldn't blind buy it, but I think you should try Oriza L. Legrand - Reve D'Ossian
Another would be Eau d'Italie - Paestum Rose
Actually he did - his original post is only 1 sentence long and it's right there:
But then he lists some fragrances that are outside of that. And clearly many people just read thread titles...
Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777
2022 Generation Man
Tuberose sticks out to me.
Cedrat Boise is in the same ballpark... But it's no Aventus. Lacking the depth and richness of Aventus.
But had no correlation to the OPs request / specifications.
But then again, the OPs list itself didn't really fit his own criteria...
After Pure Chili and Pure Sneaker, I have lost a lot of faith, but still will give this a try.
Where's the love for Kenneth Cole Black? What the hell is the matter with you people?!
From your list, I went with Encre Noire and Gucci Pour Homme II
Almost added Nautica Voyage,...
Chanel - Bleu de Chanel
PR - 1 Million
Dolce & Gabbana - The One for Men
Grey Vetiver (EDP)
If you like SDV, you would also like Cuir Beluga. Same vanilla, but leather instead of booze. SDV is essentailly Cuir Beluga's flanker.
Creed Sublime Vanille, Diptyque Eau Duelle, and the...
Tom Ford - Amber Absolute
Amouage - Interlude Man
There are others that do just as well or better:
Bond No. 9 - New York Oud
Bond No. 9 - New York Amber
The fragrances you list under "Hated" do not surprise me at all. Interlude Man is actually loved by my wife (and I find ok), but the others in that group are all ghastly smelling.
I am surprised...
This was my 1st thought.
Others would be
Lalique - Encre Noire
Zirh - Ikon
Bleu de Chanel
Not like Aventus really - that would be Bond No. 9 http://www.bondno9.com
But Scent of Peace for Him is excellent and has amazing longevity (like most from this house).
GIT is excellent in the spring.
I think that performs well above it's weight class. But being tied to a TV show holds it back a bit I believe.
Just glad it wasn't an Iced Tea bottling facility.
The Different Company
Oud for Love
The Different Company - De Bachmakov
Kenneth Cole - Black
I went with Nio, Aventus, and Enigma... But almost added Jubilation XXV and Tonka Imperiale.
if it's anything like the old Amber Absolute - and I hear it is - then absolutely,
I own multiple scents from every one of those houses listed. But I picked Creed. Just too many of my favorites from them - including my absolute favorite scent - Spice & Wood.
A house that is...
Nothing. Some have a coconut note, but that barely puts you in the same ballpark IMO.
Some I would recommend:
Not a fan of testers really. Yeah, you can save some money, but having that capless bottle without a real box would always drive me nuts.
Congratulations. I never thought to check a batch number on GIT.
I guess I need a definition of what a "Middle Eastern" fragrance consists of.
XJ 1861 Naxos
From a sample
Certainly not "masculine", but quite unisex.
If you love it, don't worry about it.
Profumi di Pantelleria - Maestrale Fresh/Sweet wood scent. Good office scent, good longevity.
Exactly what I was thinking.
I am not sure if you are familiar with House of Matriarch Blackbird, but to me it is a slightly powdery, iris-y version of Blackbird. Leather is not listed as a note, but it almost has a...
Not very similar to me. Unless you want to keep your collection < 5 bottles, they would certainly not be redundant to own both. However, I don't care for either one really.
IMO, the best release of 2015 was Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 - Mortal Skin.
There are some really good ones on the list, but I only voted for one: Guerlain Tonka Imperiale. Just an excellent fragrance.
Black Vanilla Absolute
Nothing just like it, but I do think Dior's Cuir Cannage is in the same ballpark.
If I were to trim my collection to just a dozen or two of my favorites, after about a year, they probably wouldn't thrill me like they do now.
Be careful of your strategy.
Well, First in Fragrance carries both. While not based in the US, they ship to the US - and you may find the prices better than Luckyscent (since if shipping to the US, the 19% VAT tax is removed).
Love your previous reviews / rankings. Interesting list of ones you are planning to try next.
Blackbird (or whatever they call it now), Enigma, Oud Ispahan, and Enchanted Forest are certainly...
I don't have any problems with the longevity of this one. While it certainly has the Dior Homme DNA, I think it is just a bit different from all the others in the line - exactly as a flanker should...
1st wearing of:
51 Pour Homme
Code Sport Athlete
Serge Lutens - Encens et Lavande
Either a sample or a blind-buy of MFK Baccarat Rouge
Blind-buy of Lalique Encre Noire L'Extreme
Kerosene R'Oud Elements
I just finally smelled CK One for the first time yesterday. This may be worth a sniff, but I didn't really see the big deal about CK One.
O'driu - Supercilium
Nothing I have smelled is quite like it. It reminds me of a long ago smoked pipe in a dry dusty cabin. A bit of a challenge to pull it off as a fragrance, but certainly...
Creed Windsor / Royal Mayfair
Polo Double Black
I like all of them, but give a slight advantage to Back to Black.
2 more blind buys:
based on all the positive comments about this here on Basenotes lately!
It is incredible for sure - great pick up!
Love this one! Congrats!
Tried Acqua di Parma Colonia Ambra today for the 1st time. Actually pretty nice. I think I like this one more than the Leather and Oud versions. I was a little skeptical at first, but the drydown...
Acqua di Parma
1st wearing today from a sample.
I haven't even heard of this one before. I do really like a few from this house, but most of them just don't wow me. A fellow BNer sent me a sample of Blue Sapphire and Azrak, and I really love...
Chanel Allure Homme Sport Cologne Sport is a personal favorite. Yes, the names are oftentimes so bad they are begging for confusion.
I already had samples of UAE Aoud and Enigma Parfum, but I haven't yet smelled the EDP version of Enigma or the new 51 Pour Homme - the notes look REALLY good. I am looking forward to...
