Smuggler's Soul for Uni today.
lnteresting. Never seen it used that way before, but then it's not a word you hear much these days!
Me neither!
l recently sampled L'Artisan's Passage d'Enfer, & to me it evoked perfectly the scent of green shoots peeking through the cold earth. Beautiful!
+1 for Andy Tauer & Sonoma Scent Studio. Adding recommendations for Ayala Moriel & Mandy Aftel.
Why "alas"? Alas is a sorrowful expression meaning something like "woe is me". l've noticed a couple of posts here recently though, where it's used in a completely different context. Has it come to...
Phew, that was a long day.
Regarding coffee; recent research suggests that a moderate intake (around four cups a day) actually helps to stop your arteries from clogging. So it's good for you,...
Donna Karan Gold today.
lnes, sounds like you have a great day planned! Glad things are going so well with your sweetheart.
peppermoon, good luck with your exam!
Jon & Robin; adding Rumi to the list, but am l...
Hi TechieTechie; that's not the same site l looked at previously, but you may notice it doesn't mention anything about reformulation dates. The bottle l currently have has the batch no. UB on the...
Got back from town just in time to avoid the rain & watch the League Cup final. Mr teardrop has a shiny new pair of Raybans; an early birthday present from me.
Topped up with Alien Liqueur de...
Jon; Prowl does look interesting, l will definitely check that one out!
Off into town today for lunch & shopping for a new pair of shades for Mr teardrop. :coolold: l'm wearing...

Good to see you, Asha! :vrolijk_26:
After a very lazy morning, l'm now wearing Calling All Angels by April Aromatics, from my sample.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
The bottle at the top is the same as the one l had in about 1984-85, & so l'm sure it is the original formulation.
Where are you getting the info about the codes? l ask because there is a lot of...
Regarding the Magie Noire, what do you mean by "mushroom bottle"? Can you post a pic?
l'm pretty sure it wasn't reformulated until the mid 2000s.
l use the words interchangeably, but everything l have gets worn. l never buy just for the sake of owning something.
Jon; your advice is duly noted! l'm running low on new samples again, so l think my next order will be placed with Neil Morris soon!
TechieTechie; you smell fabulous! Magie Noire is in...
l only have three or four discontinued fragrances in my full bottle collection, but several that have been reformulated. Not sure if that counts, though.
lt's been a long day & l'm too tired even...
Ghost today. Will try to synch tonight.
Have a great Friday, everyone!
Xscent; l love that snow Snoopy!
Jon; that's a gorgeous pic, l can almost smell that lemon tree. Hugs to you, 30 Roses & all who are feeling down, tired or poorly. ln fact, let's just have that...
Kewart; feel better soon!
Rynegne; sleep deprivation is awful, l hope it resolves itself soon!
Happy birthday, Donna! :birthdays:
Jon; so sorry to hear your news, but it's good to know the...
+1 for Lys Mediterranee, & adding Un Lys by Serge Lutens; a creamier but very elegant lily.
For lemon + vanilla, Eau de Shalimar would be perfect.
l also recommend Chanel No5 Eau Premiere & MFK...
L'lnstant for work today.
Still delicate today, but the pain is much less intense & l can move a little more freely. l survived my dental check-up this morning & will be returning to work tomorrow.
Ambra di Luna by Ramon Monegal.
(((Jon))) so sorry about your friend, but glad he has such wonderful support around him.
Thanks everyone for the healing wishes! Unfortunately l'm still in quite a bit of pain; l think l may have...
Thanks Kiliwia & Xscent! My neck is still painful & stiff today, but l'm giving myself some TLC with the warm cosiness of L'Ombre Fauve.
Sunny here, too, a welcome relief from the...
Thank you, Jon!
lnes, that's good to hear!
l developed a horrible pain in my neck & shoulder today, not sure what's causing it, but l often suffer from tension in that area. This is the worst it's ever been,...
Happy birthday, Robin! :birthdays:
lnteresting weather here; beautiful sunshine & then hailstorms yesterday, & today the hailstones are still frozen on the ground, a rare sight around here.
Hermessence Ambre Narguile is the one you want.
Shalimar this evening.
Off to work in Cinema.
Thinking of (((Jon))) & (((30 Roses))).
((((Jon)))) a ton of good vibes being sent your way. l hope your friend will be alright, he certainly has some good friends around him.
Not synching today as l needed something to evoke...
Mine would have to be Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia, one of the first bottles l bought after discovering basenotes, although l'd been into perfume since childhood. At the time it...
Give Tirrenico by Profumi del Forte a try. l myself find it kind of bilge-like, but fans of realistic marine notes seem to like it.
Today l tried Mademoiselle Piguet by Robert Piguet.
This is a very pretty & fresh orange blossom fragrance, opening with a whoosh of aldehydes. A vanillic sweetness weaves in & out through the...
Betsy, one of the lovely ladies here coined that term; (sorry, l don't remember who?) l believe it means "Just f***ing pretty"! :D
l have a couple of days off, & today l'm sampling Mademoiselle Piguet. l think it's safe to say this one is JFP! ;)
Vanille lnsensee by Atelier Cologne.
Looking at the Lacoste fragrances listed in the directory, l'm almost certain she is referring to L.12.12.Red. Just because it's listed as masculine, doesn't rule it out. Many women here wear...
Congrats to cazaubon on your milestone!
Ambra di Luna this evening, from my sample.
l agree with Master-Classter; my first thought was that this is Voile de Fleur.
That is how l'd interpret it, but l can honestly say l've never bought a perfume for this reason, even if l have ended up selling it. l only buy with the intent to wear & enjoy.
Perhaps we could...
l'm wearing Smuggler's Soul for Uni today.
More hugs & thoughts for ((((30 Roses)))).
Oops! Wrong thread.
(((((30 Roses))))) l wish you strength & peace.
l don't know about rich socialites, but the best niche oriental l've come across is Stoned by Solange Azagury-Partridge, which is certainly pricey.
Others l could recommend might be Tilda Swinton...
Happy anniversary, rynegne!
Jon; loving the pink tricycle guy! :lolk:
lt's turned wet & miserable again here, too. Trying to counteract it with a reapplication of Seville a l'Aube this evening.
Back to work in Seville a l'Aube today.
Have a good week, everyone.
Seconding the rec for Rien, & adding Le Maroc pour Elle by Tauer; a big, filthy jasmine with a head shop vibe.
Welcome to basenotes!
Jon, looks like you had a wonderful time in my home county yesterday, & indeed there are some excellent hostelries in that area, glad you enjoyed it!
Posting late today, (too busy...
Happy Valentine's Day to all, & whether coupled-up or not, l hope there is love in your lives, today & every day.
l wore Mr teardrop's favourite, Allure today.
Thanks Xscent, l'll look into that one!
Today l tried Leva by O'Driu.
The opening phase is strongly lemongrass, part sweet (thanks to the vanilla) but also part sour. The sourness is more obvious when sniffed up close, & l find l prefer...
Ooh Jon, "cosy animalic warmth"? lnteresting! lt really is time l tried some Neil Morris fragrances. l have a couple of others on my test list, looks like l'll be adding this one!
Welcome to basenotes!
l highly recommend lntense Tiare by Montale, & Perfect Coconut by Sarah Horowitz.
Yay, wine o'clock!
Wearing Stoned by Solange Azagury-Partridge for the synch. Cheers!
Foustie, yes, great list from Evangeline! l'd forgotten about Les Nereides, too. l have a bottle of lmperial Opoponax, which is also a frequent favourite for winter evenings. l see it's now called...
lf only! Yes l saw this one on the website, it *is* stunning. :D
Thanks Darjeeling, l remember reading that too, but l guess l still expected the scent to relate to the name somehow! :D
Planning to synch this evening, but for now l'm sampling Leva by O'Driu.
Congratulations Darjeeling on your happy news! :D
l'm sampling again today, but plan to synch this evening. l have the perfect candidate in my collection, which Evangeline already correctly...
Looks like you already guessed my choice E, you know me so well!
Dior Addict this evening.
Wrapping up warm to begin the spring tidy-up in the garden on this grey day. Wearing Aftelier Shiso, from my sample. l find this one works really well in the great outdoors.
l think there'll be a fight for the merlot, too...;)
Jon; you're in! (But it'll be a quartet; don't forget dear Xscent! :D)
My scent from this morning disappeared fast & l'm craving more incense this evening; Sahara Noir it is!
ExtremeK; l'll drink to that!:kiss:
Today l tried Relique d'Amour by Oriza L. Legrand.
This opens with the scent of pine woods, giving way after ten minutes to a quite beautiful & realistic lily note; creamy, heady, lightly peppery...
l use Olay Essentials eye make up remover along with plain cotton pads. lt's inexpensive, completely effective with waterproof mascara & doesn't irritate at all. And because it's quite a thick creamy...
Xscent; l totally love that cartoon, it could have been made for me! :lolk:
((((rynegne)))) my condolences on your losses & for your sh**ty week. You sound like a very caring friend, but l hope...
:lolk: Actually l also have a sample of Philosykos that l haven't tried yet...
l also saw some Penhaligons; l don't remember all of them except for Ellenisia, one of the Anthology series, & l...
Sampling Relique d'Amour today.
Q; l did buy a new bag; deep pink & purple, satchel-style with a shoulder strap & decent side pockets, practical but fun! :D
Just been in our local branch today & saw Voleurs des Roses, Ouillet Sauvage, Mure et Musc Extreme & Premier Figuier on sale for £25 each. l was sorely tempted to blind buy the PF, but resisted. lf...
(((Jon))) l sympathise, & l wish your friend a complete recovery, as painless as possible.
Ghost this evening.
Kewart; hope your voice recovers quickly!
(((Mike))) hope today is a better day for you.
Foxbins, l never heard of Ombre Bleue either. As a lover of beachy scents, l'm...
Evangeline, after the reaction you got last week, l don't blame you for wanting more candid opinions from your sweet little protege, bless her! ;)
Alien Liqueur de Parfum this evening.
lne, glad things are going well for you!
Back to cold, grey weather here today. l'm brightening it up with Seville a l'Aube.
Jon, congrats on your purchase, you smell wonderful!
ln complete contrast to yesterday, we have sunshine & blue skies here, the birds are singing, & there's even a tiny bit of warmth in the sun....
Exactly what l was going to say! She seems to enjoy sweet, heady, slightly tropical florals, (which l also love) & this one definitely fits the bill. lt's much more wearable than the original Black...
This is confusing; not sure if you're talking about Black Orchid, Black Violet and/or Velvet Orchid?
Black Violet is one of the Private Blends, & therefore not easily found. Perhaps you meant...
((((Quarry)))) Beaker is a great name! So sorry for your loss.
+1 here for being totally over winter! lt's grey & extremely cold here today. At least the days are getting noticeably longer.
We're getting out for a few beers & a curry this evening, l'll be...
Samsara this evening, vintage EDT.
lne, how exciting!! Keeping my fingers crossed that things continue to develop happily for you.
Q; mwah back atcha!
Posting late today; it was a shock for me that the thread had not been...
l remember buying my Nan the talc for Christmas one year when l was very young! l don't remember the smell exactly, but l know it was very "pink", floral & powdery. l imagine the perfume might have a...
Actually Ken, l did already start this month's thread on the 2nd. Mods, please merge!
l'm stumped this week as l don't own anything that l would consider a "clone" of something else, so l'll be sitting this one out, but reading everyone's posts with interest!
Happy birthday, foxbins! :birthdays:
Good luck lne, another vote for BdI here! Perfect for snuggling up to on a winter's night...
cestrum; cheese, wine & a sunset sounds like a perfect...
easyfish; that's one of the cleverest perfume ads ever, IMO!
Cinema for work today.
Sympathising with the lemmings for a Malle here, too. l'm really feeling the need for a bottle of Une Rose before it's too late. l really shouldn't, but....!
Draining a sample sent to me by a generous basenoter a while back; Leap Frog, a limited edition by Gorilla Perfumes. lt's not in the directory, but it's a sweet, powdery, rose & vanilla loukhoum-type...
(((ExtremeK))) hope you feel better soon! :vrolijk_26:
Wearing Smuggler's Soul for a day in Uni.
Foustie, Relique d'Amour is next in my sample queue. l look forward to reading your thoughts on this one!
Wearing Stoned this evening.
