Bump Feb. 24
I've fallen in love with a Gareth Pugh jacket and have decided to pare down my perfume wardrobe to raise the funds.
Shipping in Canada (preferred): $15 first bottle, $5 additional...
Oooh, Bois Farine is pretty unusual. Good call!
Thanks hednic and cacio - very good suggestions too! I like the idea of sending Dune and Kouros!
Good suggestions! I like the idea of doing Mugler Cologne and Jicky/Mouchoir especially. Wasn't Mugler the first of Chandler Burr's untitled series?
The interviewer who did a story about perfume with me for the local paper last summer is going to do another feature about scent!
This time she is going to sit down with the owner of a perfume...
Congratulations on starting the Guerlain journey. Mine started last year and although I'm not even close to exploring the more expensive offerings yet, my 9 bottles are among my favourites already!
I adore both Habit Rouge and Heritage, but have only their EDP concentrations in my collection.
If I could only keep one, it would definitely be Heritage. I find it to be very luxurious, and that...
Christian Dior Dune
Tom Ford Black Orchid
Tom Ford White Patchouli
Alexander McQueen Kingdom
Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial
Guerlain Jicky (although...
Well, the $49 (3.4 oz) bottle of Al Oudh arrived today, and wow - I have to say, this is my favourite l'Artisan to date.
It feels heavier, warmer, richer than the ones I've had before. Love it.
Thanks! I was on the fence (loved the fragrance when I sampled it at Sephora, but wasn't quite ready to shell out the $200) but that price made it way more compelling.
Just picked up a 3.4oz tester of this at FragranceNet for $49. SCORE!
Looking forward to trying it.
Agree, pluran. I too love Heritage EDP (wearing today), Mitsouko, Shalimar - Guerlain does some amazing work.
Interesting that several of you still think LIDGE might be a hit even though LIDG was...
Thanks Badarun and Marais for the suggestions!
For the past year or so I've been having a love affair with classic Guerlains: Mouchoir, Jicky, Shalimar, Habit Rouge, Heritage, L'Homme Ideal, and even EdC Imperiale - all divine!
Fun post! Interesting to put faces to the names.
Staff photo for this year:
Love wearing Black Orchid, Shalimar EDP, Mitsouko EDP, White Patchouli, and many other feminines all the time.
Never gotten any negative comments from them!
Shalimar, Mitsouko, Black Orchid, A*Men, Eau Sauvage Parfum all come to mind.
Totally, Jerk_Store and iris&oud! There has been some decent stuff lately.
I also was tempted by a small Womanity gift set for around $40.
Good deals at the moment. The TF White Patchouli was...
Winners in Edmonton, Canada:
- Tom Ford White Patchouli EDP, 3.4oz. $90 clearance (bought - unboxed)
- Versace The Dreamer 1.7oz gift set with body lotion $38 clearance (didn't buy)
I'm torn as to whether or not I should go for this. I like Bvlgari Black but don't ~love~ it. I have a bottle.
Is it worth blind buying MiP? If so, what concentration?
I don't mind it. The ladies at Shoppers Drug Mart were kind enough to give me a proper carded sample, and I wore it this week.
Longevity was good for me, like most Guerlains. It was sweet-woody,...
I've finally invested in a bottle of Chergui. It's a blind buy, but I've done enough research to feel confident that I will like it very much.
What can I expect from this bottle - I...
Thanks for the comments on both the article and here, guys. You're very kind!
Thanks guys and gals!
A few days in, I'm still getting e-mails from people in the City about the column. A few people actually agree with our filthy perfume lovin' ways. I was a bit concerned by...
Thanks very much, all!
My favourite Twitter comment to date:
"This selfish 'rebel' needs to have insect repellent sprayed in his face. Runny noses, migraines are not imaginary. Perfume is offensive."
Thanks all! I agree, the comments are pretty vitriolic. The Luca Turin "drag" quote has inspired a couple of heated comments on Twitter and social media, as well. Yikes!
Thanks, guys. Like I say, though, I wouldn’t have had much to say if it hadn’t been for this community and all of its experts.
Haha, agreed. I just find it really romantic. Maybe I’m a freak!
When I met a style writer for my local paper about a design project I'd helped manage, she asked if I had any story ideas - and of course I started gushing about perfume. It led to a little story...
Echoing what many others have said. My collection would have capped out with the designers of the season. I'm grateful that BN has opened my eyes to more interesting niches and classics!
This. I realize the OP requested nothing expensive, specifically naming Creeds but this salty aquatic with lush melon sounds like it would fit the bill. Also, if you order from a vendor like...
Great review on the Monsieur Guerlain website :
Lately it seems that the marketing for Black Orchid has become less gendered - in some local stores, it's actually stocked in both mens/womens sections, or between them. Personally I find it quite...
+1 In the Library - own it an enjoy it.
I like the appearance of having caps!
I love Eau d'Hermes, and also enjoy Concentre d'orange verte and Terre d'Hermes.
Love it. Interested to learn more about this one.
Ditto! Looking forward to pulling this out for summer 2014.
Wearing Shalimar EDP today, and loving every minute of it!
I've seen a few threads appear and disappear, regarding this release.
I can't remember - do we have notes for this one?
I found a 1.7oz of this for I think ~$20, or something ridiculous.. I like it, but don't reach for it often.
However, I purchased it at the beginning of fall, so maybe the weather of the summer...
I have been using the Clinique 3-step program for years and noticed this weekend that the packaging seems to have changed. Additionally, my Shoppers didn't appear to stock the gel...
Local Winners was quite well stocked yesterday. Some finds I remember:
- Goutal Cologne Trio (Eau d'Hadrien, Neroli, Vetiver), 3x50ml, $99
- Assorted Robert Piguet EDPs 50ml (Fracas, Calypso,...
Love me some stanky perfumes.
The only one I'd strongly recommend adding to your rotation is the already-mentioned Eau d'Hermes. It's possibly my all-time favourite.
Nice. I bet that is a lovely blend! The extrait is definitely on my radar, although out of my financial reach at the moment. I may have to weed out and swap/sell a few redundant residents in my...
Hehe, I am glad to know that I'm not the only go-big-or-go-home consumer with this one.
I didn't really even count my first application of Jicky EDP at 3 sprays because it was nearly...
LOL! I asked around, and didn't appear to gas anyone out. My office is pretty good about scent, actually! I don't know what I'd do if I got a job in a scent-free environment.
I applied about 10 sprays of my latest purchase, Jicky EDP, for my day at the office today.
What a joy all the way from opening to dry down! I have to keep pulling my nose away from my arm, I keep...
It just doesn't happen. Every morning, when I shower and get dressed, apply deodorant, etc., it's a step in the routine. The performance is exactly the same every morning, so I find I'm always...
My 2013 bottle smells wonderful; I love it.
I haven't sniffed the vintage stuff, though!
I've read about Encre Noire EDP (not the ladies' version, but the rather pricey mens') in various EN threads. I don't recall anyone having tried it.
Today I noticed that this...
Guerlain (I'm wishing I'd realized this sooner and wasted less time in purchasing their classics. I think I could be quite satisfied living off of their offerings.)
Thanks @MikePerez123 for confirming presentation for Jicky. The top 2 appear to be refills (the round EDT is for the gold contraption I think?) but I'm not sure what kind of presentation the more...
Thanks Revs for pointing out FragranceNet's current price. I just ordered Jicky EDP because 1.7oz for $50 seems an excellent opportunity. The bottles I've been watching on eBay, etc. are ~$100.
I am happy to accept them as "extras" in part of a gift set, but I have never paid for a shower gel or any other ancillary product - with the exception of the Narciso Rodriguez for Him deodorant...
Perfect: I've been sleeping on 34 Boulevard Saint Germain for some time. Thanks @rynegne!
Hooray! I've been meaning to try Jicky for some time. Thanks!
I love civet!
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Eau d'Hermes - it's my favourite civetous fragrance, followed by Mouchoir de Monsieur and Kouros.
I wear quite a few and love them!
Alexander McQueen Kingdom
Tom Ford Black Orchid
Donna Karan Black Orchid
Christian Dior Dune
I'm a little scared:
I've been itching to try Dior Homme Intense, thanks Norstrøm!
I'm going to have to snatch Tea for Two. Thanks @TheAntagonist!
Declaration, Terre d'Hermes and Fleur du Male.
GIT is a recent purchase but hauling in the compliments already.
Heritage EDP arrived today. What a treat! It's a 2013 batch from what I can tell (3W01) and boy, is it rich. The opening felt surprisingly sharp, and very "big" - and read it as spicy/woody right off...
Mugler Cologne, GIT or maybe even Shalimar.
I like and have both fragrances, but if I could only have one it would be the Hanae Mori. I find it more complex/interesting and it's considerably more potent on me.
If you liked Bvlgari Black but found it too weak, you might be interested to try Van Cleef & Arpels' Midnight in Paris.
IMO, it's quite similar to BB and comes in Eau de Parfum concentration.
LOL @ Fragrancenet's number 6 seller:
Exceptional - Because You Are
I gave a friend a bottle of Everything & Nothing, and she loved it. Very inoffensive bright citrus.
Thanks so much for the comments and recommendations. I'm really excited to receive this one now.
Derby is definitely on my bucket list, but the affordability of the others in the range make them...
Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences with the EDP.
@martinijo - It appears to still be in stock at Fragrancenet and at a wonderful price, if you're interested.
@MegaMav - Your...
I just saw Heritage EDP offered for a price I couldn't refuse. I've recently fallen for Habit Rouge and Shalimar EDPs and Mouchoir de Monsieur.
I've yet to test Heritage in any concentration but...
Ordered some Guerlain Heritage EDP from Fragrancenet today. It's great to see them back, even though their shipping rates have increased.
By the time I total the 21% Fragrancenet discount coupon,...
I love wearing Shalimar EDP, too. I find it imminently wearable and sexy. I am constantly smelling my wrists when I wear this (out, and even at the office)!
Thanks - yeah, there were a few "reduced" stickers piled on top of each other on this bottle - good deals on a few Creeds that remain from the Christmas stock. Aventus, Neroli, GIT, Tabarome all at...
And, it's gone! Haha. Darn.
But I did snatch a 4 oz bottle of Green Irish Tweed for $100, so I'll still consider it a worthwhile visit.
I know, everyone, haha, I really should have sprung for it. Maybe I'll drive over this morning and see if it's still there. I've bought 2 clearance-price Creeds at Winners before (MI and Royal Oud)...
*Almost* pulled the trigger on a 4oz bottle of Aventus - marked down to $147.
Picked up a 30ml travel spray of Gucci's Pour Home (2003, Tom Ford era). Lovely.
If you like vetiver, Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford might be worth looking into.
Some decent discounts at the local Winners in Edmonton.
My purchase wasn't on sale, but I was satisfied: Shalimar 50ml EDP + 75ml lotion for $69.
Argh. This thread has be itching to pull out my wallet.
I've recently begun to enjoy this house and have been wearing Mouchoir, Habit Rouge EDP and Shalimar EDP very frequently.
Next up, I'd...
I have both the copper-capped and clear-capped versions. I love them both equally!
I find the copper-capped more animalic and heavier. However, I really do love the brightness and fresh citrus...
I just got the EDP last week and am loving the experience. About 4-5 sprays gives me a lasting, rich fragrance but I don't find it overpowering.
I am hoping to explore Guerlain a bit deeper, since 2013 revealed an affection for Mouchoir, Shalimar and Habit Rouge. I want more from this beautiful house!
I only get asked for the name, rarely the price. If asked, I tell and leave it up to the other person to be either nonplussed or surprised.
A co-worker (good taste, but not a frag aficionado) who...
This is very unfortunate; I enjoyed FragranceNet's prices and even though the orders took a while to ship, they were always well-packed. I hope they offer Canadian shipping again soon.
I recently picked up Creed's MI and adore it. However, it is very fleeting, particularly the beautiful opening.
I sampled this last week and was not nearly as captivated by it as I thought I'd be. I just got smoke. I'm pretty relieved, actually. I was worried that it would be so fabulous I'd be compelled to...
Alexander McQueen's "My Queen." Sweet violets, vanilla, heliotrope.
I've been enjoying H.M. by Hanae Mori quite a lot lately. Cheap as borscht.
Some new stuff at various Winners in Edmonton:
- Terre d'Hermes 3.4, $99 (went back to purchase, and was gone)
- Creed's MI 1.0, $99
- Burberry London 1.7, $39
- Dior Homme 1.7, $49
Dior Homme. I want it to persist so much longer than it does.
I'm so thrilled to have won this year's gift certificate. Thanks Grant!
I love Black Cashmere but don't tend to wear it during the summer months; it's a winter wear for me!
@bigsteve Your Dali!
I don't see much connection to the original. That said, the Parfum I do really enjoy. I could see it being worn even during the summer months (although sparingly).
