Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza
Rive Gauche Pour Homme
Versace Pour Homme
Lanvin Avant Garde
These 5 cover every base for me. Formal/casual, and all seasons/occasions.
My top 5 at...
^This exactly. The opening is nice, but not mind blowing. The drydown smells like a cheap, $20 fragrance. Not worth the money, to me.
I would highly recommend you try a sample of Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza.
A small bottle from an online discounter would still be a little more expensive than L'Homme,
but it is well worth it.
I've owned both. Absolutely loved the EDT, but was not a big fan of the EDP.
It's much denser, and it highlights the facets of the EDT that I least enjoyed,
primarily the lavender and vanilla.
This may be counter-intuitive to the whole purpose of layering (creating a new scent)
but, for those of you that own Chanel's Egoiste and Pour Monsieur Concentree,
when you layer those two, it...
It's not as prominent or strong as the one in Roadster, but it is a little similar in smell, at least to me.
The mint in Roadster is the main attraction until the heart and drydown. I really like...
Xerjoff 1861: Maybe the highest quality citrus opening I've encountered.
A little early in the drydown, but the mint in this one is also outstanding.
It's not intrusive, and compliments--and is...
It's a great niche house, and has a little bit of everything to offer.
I haven't had the pleasure of trying the vintage versions, but I've owned:
As other's have said, Geir Ness and VPH are very close to AHS.
Geir is fruitier, almost a cherry-like vibe. Versace is the closest. Think a more
transparent AHS, only with less longevity and...
For those that are familiar with this one, what are your thoughts?
Is the magnetic cap version close enough to the original?
Or is it worth seeking out a vintage bottle, and if so, where can you...
I recently got a carded spray sample of this one, and I really like it, but
longevity is very poor for me. I've worn it twice now, and it dies on me
after about 4 hours. I'm having the same issue...
I gave it to her yesterday, she seemed to like it.
It smelled great on her when we went out to dinner later.
Eau Sauvage Parfum is very long lasting/potent.
You can usually find it for $60 or less online.
I have a sample vial of this one and really like it for the most part.
The only part I'm not crazy about is the dry-down, which is an almost bitter leather/patchouli, to me anyway. Definitely...
Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions. After a lot more reading and research, I decided to test out
some Chanel fragrances at Belk's. I finally settled on No.5 Eau Premiere. It seems like...
Should have asked her to smell them both together.
She might think differently then. Also, should ask her to smell both a few hours later.
The AHS will still be going strong, and the AXE crap will...
I will definitely do some research on these. I may also be able to sample the No. 19 and Eau Premiere. There is a Belk in my hometown (kind of like the Macy's of the South) and they carry Chanel.
I need some help in deciding on a fragrance purchase for a female friend.
I know quite a bit about male fragrances, but am a novice when it comes to feminine fragrances.
Some details about the...
Wasn't impressed with it either. For the price it commands, it better wow me, and it certainly didn't.
Platinum Egoiste is safe, just go light on the trigger.
And Chanel Pour Monsieur is one of the safest choices possible.
After 30 minutes, no one will know you're wearing it.
Completely forgot about Versace Pour Homme. Great suggestion.
It smells almost identical to Allure Homme Sport, but isn't as dense.
It's a more transparent version. Longevity is not quite as...
All the suggestions above are great. I'll add a couple based on your description of the country club setting: "family oriented, casual dining only...bar is nearly all male."
Terre D'Hermes eau...
If you like the fragrances you mentioned above-and I do-do you think Icon is a safe blind buy?
Eau des Baux wins this matchup easily.
It's a far superior fragrance.

Good until April 9th
Fragrancenet has the best price I've found so far. It's 79.99 for a 5oz bottle.
I didn't even know this until last night, but they also have a Sport flanker for Loewe Pour Homme.
It was released in 2014, but there aren't any threads on it here, and only 3 reviews (all positive).
The original Esencia, to my nose, is one of the greatest "green" masculines
ever. If it's...
Thanks so much for the feedback everyone. I'm planning on picking up one of these for spring/summer soon.
I think I'm leaning toward the Essenza now. Can't go wrong either way really.
Need some input on this question. I've owned both before, but wound up selling or swapping them.
It's been a long time since I've smelled either of these. For some reason, I think I recall...
Low Budget--Aqua Quorum, Davidoff Silver Shadow Altitude, Versace Pour Homme, Pal Zileri Colonia Purissima
Higher end--Chanel Allure Homme Sport, Acqua di Parma Colonia/Assoluta/Essenza
Bumping to see if anyone has any new thoughts or reviews on this one.
Comparisons to Egoiste/Rive Gauche/Barbershop make it sound very intriguing.
Use code: ANNIVERSARY
Cartier Roadster. Great opening, mediocre drydown.
1) Allure Homme Sport--Favorite one by FAR
2) Cartier Roadster
3) PdN New York/Rive Gauche PH
Gucci by Gucci Sport--smells great while it lasts, which is not very long.
Aqua Quorum--smells like a Cool Water/GIT/Polo Sport hybrid.
You can get testers for about $8 on eBay.
Awesome, inexpensive juice that smells like it should cost 10x more.
Only drawback for me...
The original was already extreme enough for me, and then some. Pass
Invasion Barbare is fantastic, not surprised he loves that one.
As others have mentioned, Sartorial and HdP 1725 are very similar to IB, just not quite as potent.
Invasion Barbare stays on clothes...
I haven't sampled Cuiron, so maybe others can speak to the similarities. However, I always thought Dunhill Edition was pretty unique.
I haven't smelled anything else quite like it. Excellent...

I don't get it either. Smells like Terre D'Hermes in an EDC concentration to me.
Longevity is poor for me. It becomes a skin scent after 2 hours.
And I've given it a chance. Worn it several...
I've gotten more compliments on Allure Homme Sport than any other fragrance I've ever worn, by a country mile.
But...it's much heavier/creamier/richer than the other two you listed. Versace Pour...
Basically the entire Dior Homme line, with the exception of Dior Homme Sport, which is fantastic, one of the best
"sport" fragrances ever, imo.
1) Chanel Allure line
2) Acqua di Parma Colonia line
3) Cartier Declaration line
For the price - Buy. It's under $30 on eBay and other online outlets.
Longevity is horrible, but the fragrance is nice while it lasts.
If the cumin is a major player, it's be a definite pass for me.
This thread is making me want to seek out some vintage Equipage.
I swapped for a bottle of (what I think is) the "current" version...
When did they come out with that bottle? The only bottles I know of are the vintage and the one I owned, this one:
So there are 3 versions of Bel Ami? Jesus Christ, if they have put...
There's no cumin in the current version of Bel Ami. Wasn't in the original either. It's not listed in the notes for any version of Bel Ami, anywhere.
"Dirty, sweaty" Are you sure you smelled Bel...
Thanks for the Ferrari Black! Got it yesterday. To pay the favor forward, I'm going to give away
a 30ml bottle of Krizia Moods Uomo. It's about 85% full. It's a great 80's powerhouse, now...
I am currently seeing all of the following bottles listed for $35 or less including shipping on eBay
$20 to $35 or less for a full bottle:
Calvin Klein CK One
I don't think I've seen it mentioned yet, but Jovan Sex Appeal for Men is a very nice, musk/patchouli. It's super cheap too. I got a 3oz bottle for $7.50 shipped off of eBay last week, and I'm very...
Looking to buy/swap for bottles of these.
Look at my swap thread/sale thread/wardrobe to see if I have any bottles
you'd want in return for these.
Hadn't bought any new bottles for almost a year, and had trimmed my collection down to about 10 bottles. Then, in the past two weeks, I bought, or swapped for these:
That's the best fragrance story I've ever heard, without a doubt!
From the fragrances I have owned or sampled:
Eau Sauvage Fraicheur Cuir--very smooth, subtle "suede" like leather.
I think one reviewer in the directory describes it as "soft, like a lady's...
I get a lot of cloves and spice. If you love this, try and get yourself a bottle of Meharees.
Smells identical to Musc Ravageur at a fraction of the price.
An intense version would surely be an improvement. The original lasts all of 2 hours on my skin.
This, along with the reformulated Chanel Pour Monsieur are the most fleeting fragrances I've ever ...
I think you need to try Hermes Bel Ami. Vintage would probably be more of what you are looking for if you can hunt it down, but the current formulation is great as well.
I think it nicely fits the...
Another +1 for Tom Ford for Men.
Not sure if you live in a warm climate or not, but if your budget allows,
I'd also second the recommendations for Tom Ford Grey Vetiver.
I just got my bottle in the mail today. This is probably not the best day/time of year to test this one (It's about 18 degrees with 4 inches of snow where I live in KY). However, I really like this...
Bel Ami (reformulation/current version)
Knize Ten (Golden Edition)
Bel Ami (vintage)
Knize Ten (Current formulation)
Derby (current formulation)
In that order
Egoiste, by a country mile...
Thanks! The bottle of Lust goes to peppermoon. Hope you enjoy it!
I'm waiting to hear back from member "peppermoon" on the bottle of Lust. As long as this member is located in the U.S. they've got it. If not, it will go to the next person who pm'ed me and lives...
I have a 30ml bottle of Gorilla Perfumes Lust that I will gladly give to a good home.
It was graciously gifted to me by ScentFan not very long ago. I believe it is only missing a handful of sprays,...
I haven't had the pleasure of smelling the Birley. But, I was lucky enough to get a used bottle of the newly released Fougere Royale about 18 months ago from a fellow Basenoter (at a great...
Meharees smells almost identical to Musc Ravageur.
I've owned both at the same time, and honestly could not tell the difference.
Best of luck to you Dreamer. I'm in the same boat, I've cut my wardrobe down to 5 fragrances (from what was at one point about 30) Bel Ami, Allure Homme Sport, Aventus, Gucci PH II, and Rive Gauche...

CologneFan85 was the first to PM me for the Narciso Rodriquez, so it will go to him.
Hope you enjoy it!
I have the following bottle to offer to a good home:

Hopefully someone will enjoy this one.

Yesterday morning in the check out line at a local convience store...
Chanel Allure Homme Sport
Girl behind me in line: "I'm sorry, but you smell so good, what cologne are you wearing?"
Ferragamo Pour Homme
I got the most enthusiastic, and unexpected compliment I've ever received
from a fragrance earlier this afternoon...guess what, it was AVENTUS...
I went into a local convenience store to buy a 12...
Good Reformulations (better than the originals IMO)
Hermes Bel Ami
Neutral Reformulations (Meh...)
Dior Homme Intense
Allure Homme Sport, by a wide margin
You have chosen wisely with Prada Amber Pour Homme.
I think it would be a great high school age scent.
I doubt anyone at your school will be wearing it,
and I can't imagine it being offensive....
It's hard to beat this one for the price.
You can get a 100ml bottle for less than $60
and it's on par with the best designers and even
some niche fragrances in terms of quality.
In a way, I feel bad for Aventus, lol.
It has become a legendary compliment-getter scent,
I'm sure with good reason, but like others, I've worn it a lot (a good batch too)
and never been...
It's extremely overrated. The EDT has much better projection and longevity,
and is a much better scent overall, IMO.
It's nice to read someone else's first impressions of Invasion Barbare.
It's a fragrance that haunts me. It is my "holy grail" yet I have such
a hard time justifying owning a 60ml bottle that...
Vintage Versace L'Homme.
The opening is extremely harsh to me, even bitter, but the heart
and drydown are pure quality.
Heritage is my favorite of the Guerlain's I've owned/sampled so far.
I've used about 30% of the 100ml bottle I have, so it's probably my most
worn fragrance, along with the likes of Rive Gauche...
Not a bad scent at all, especially for the price.
As many have said, it's in the gourmand category.
If I had to describe it, it's like a synthetic cross
between Rochas Man and La Nuit, but not as...
