Donīt forget Fragonard, that has itīs own shop by the waterfront in the old city.
Got that one too recently.
After having used DE Wilkinson / Derby blades for a month now, I can testify that "DE safety razors - The best a man can get!"
I made the same discovery today!
Vichy - No alcohol, no aluminium.
Iīve been using Taylorīs Sandalwood which smells great. How would you compare the scent to the Art Of Shaving version?
Thanks for the tips! Yes, Iīm advancing slowly, I only wish I could shave several times per day for practice....
OK, I was wondering why one shouldnīt use the sharpest blade available... I currently have only used Wilkinsons and will try Derbys next.
All Iīve got is Taylorīs Sandalwood & Lemon/Lime. Is there an online shop for your favourite?
Today I tried canned foam (Vichy Homme) with a DE razor - a definite no-no. I was a bit surprised as Vichy is one of the better foams around, but it seems the traditional shaving creams give better...
Got it. Brush incoming from Taylorīs and Iīll be soon ready for some serious sandalwood whipping!
Right-O, getting this:
Folks, I need your opinion on what kind of differences there are with DE blades. Do they differ much in terms of thickness, sharpness etc? Which manufacturers do you use? Thanks!
Who am I to argue, ordering a brush right away.
How should I make the lather; should I put some cream in a bowl and then add some water into it?
As a new addict, Iīd like to know if thereīs a dramatic difference with applying the cream directly onto your face or using a brush?
I`ve been using canned Vichy Homme foam, but as I like to do things the hard way, Iīve recently started using Taylorīs Sandalwood cream. Really looking forward to trying other creams as well.
Thank you for the advice, gentlemen. As there seems to be no clear winner, I have to order some decants.
Iīm after a traditional British Limes "Saville Row" scent. Which one would you choose from the following manufacturers?
Geo F. Trumper
Truefitt & Hill
Taylor of Old Bond Street
I am a Dior man, despite all:
DHI / DH
I wanted to have one, but found the idea utterly impractical.
Well, it might be that I have to resort to an "ordinary" Mach3 handle on busy mornings. But you cannot have too many razors anyway :)
I just turned the clock back and ordered an Edwin Jagger Georgian Imitation Ivory Safety/DE razor. Iīve also started the move to traditional shaving creams by Taylor of Old Bond Street / Truefitt &...
Are you guys talking about DH or DHI? I believe DH still has silver collar whereas DHI nowadays has black.
What? Do you mean there has been another reformulation in Sept. which is different from May 2011-August 2011 versions? Has anyone sniffed it?
I still detect gasoline in the testers found here.
Exactly. I refer to it daily.
Very original indeed! I used to wear this in 90īs and recently sniffed it again - I couldnīt understand it anymore! Sniffed it again and again, day after day in the department store. It grew on me...
My summer favourite and somewhat lighter and easier to wear than Chanel Pour Monsieur.
Excellent thread. Especially because in Orthodox church where I come from, the candle-wax/incence factor is even stronger :)
Oh, ok. Then I can breathe again normally, as I was under the impression, that there was another, even worse reformulation coming in September.
OK, thatīs June 2011 then. I still wonder if thereīs another reformulation which took place in September.
Whatīs the batch code?
A quick sniff of the July 2011 version certainly reveals cocoa in the drydown.
I just got a July 2011 DHI which has a grey spray tip...should I be suspicious?
EDIT: Seems Jan 2011 too has grey tip so it should be ok.
Without internet, what would a poor boy do?
That includes shipping. Btw. DHI (50ml) costs about 75€ in Finland...
Not that I remember - will have to check though.
Edit: Black tip.
I have a black collar from Oct/Nov 2010 - bought from a department store.
Reports here have said that the cocoa-factor appears later with the reformulation (in a few hours) whereas with the vintage it develops almost instantly.
The newer formulation is readily available in Europe. As for the vintage juice...well, Iīm stocked up.
I guess the question still stands whether there is a reformulation which took place in September which no-one has yet tried?
Lots of so called classics: Azzaro PH, Aramis, Antaeus to name a few. Just canīt wear them as much as Iīd like to. :(
Summer. As much as I love DHI, Iīm basically a citrus lover.
Depends on the weather and my mood. Today I tried Antaeus. Bad mistake.
Chanel Egoiste, Terre dīHermes.
Well, if the shelf-life of DHI is mere 3 years, surely all those 2007 bottles have gone bad and you are entitled to a handsome discount? ;)
I used it as an air freshener at the office today and people almost fainted. Canīt wait to wear it tomorrow properly!
April 2011 is vintage because I just ordered one. :)
Itīs not the violets but the gasoline that makes me gag.
Interesting, as I cannot tolerate the current version.
Wow, on the UK eBay Iīve bought vintage 100ml bottles at only 100 USD. DHI must be a rare treat in US.
No, it was their spontaneous reaction when I mentioned the dreaded word.
Iīm also not quite sure if I could actually wear it. I like sniffing it on my wrist but wearing it for real...the ladies at work said a firm "no" today, as it reminds them of hairy chests in 1990īs.
Oh no, I thought Iīd never wear this again but I now find myself sniffing it day after day at the local store...
4. more than 200ml
I have 300ml
Iīve downsized my collection to Montblanc 149, Aurora 88 and Aurora Bicentenary of the Birth of the Italian Flag LE. Blue-Black ink for me!
LOL, yeah, The 2011 vintage!
Iīm a bit confused when DH was reformulated, some here say it was reformulated more than once, the first one happening many years ago? So which version is the original?
I got this at 75 USD.
And another vintage 100ml bottle won on eBay...
It reminds me a lot of Monsieur de Givenchy, itīs just stronger.
I havenīt tested Chanel PM Concentree but I do love the regular PM.
Thatīs my main motive, stupid as it may sound. I want something that has lasted the test of time and be part of a heritage.
Fountain pens, anyone?
Welcome to Finland, the country where wearing a scent means youīre gay = DHI readily available.
Whatīs the idea of not stocking a certain fragrance in certain countries?
Thanks, but looking at the original thread made me green of envy as I saw what some other guys got...
Yes, itīs not vetiver alone that disgusts me as I sort of like Guerlain Vetiver. The strenght of the scent is also not the decisive factor as I like Antaeus. Itīs something dark and oppressing dirt...
Wristwatches? Absolutely! Current set:
Iīm wearing regular Chanel Pour Monsieur right now and cannot smell much, but the guy sitting 2 metres away from me just asked which Boss Iīm wearing :D
Just secured a 100ml vintage bottle. Now I have 200ml in total of the vintage juice and Diorīs response has convinced me that I need still more.
I think the same rules apply for fragrances as for wine: dark and cool, although frags should tolerate more abuse than wine.
Vintage DHI 100ml for 65 euros, not bad....
Iīve never had to resort to opening a dispute on eBay or Paypal, but Iīve gathered that they are effective although the process can be time consuming.
Could be skin chemistry, as most of those frags get a lot worse once applied on skin.
There are certain fragrances that I just cannot wear as they contain something that I cannot stand. At least these have it:
Rive Gauche PH
I bought my first bottle of DH today and it has a silver tube/collar with writing on it. Dates from Nov. 2010.
Wow, I still have to do the comparison. Sounds good so far.
Let us know if you can smell a difference!
OK, I see it at dot ie. Strange, Iīve seen that before at co.uk but not anymore.
Would that be ebay.co.uk? Cannot find anything...
I love this madness! Let the hunt begin!
Seems I like gourmands as well, as I rotate mainly between DHI and Givenchy Pi. What would Rochas Man add to this selection?
Some have writtten here, that the April 2011 batch is still vintage. Anything made after that is suspect.
Check your codes here: http://checkcosmetic.net/
Wear what you want and donīt let others do it for you. Eau Sauvage says you respect heritage and are cool enough to wear it in 2011.
Donīt worry - if it has been stored properly itīll last forever.
Eau Sauvage is one of those bottles that Iīll be buying again when I finish my first one.
Someone said somewhere here that it now has more iris?
I vote for PM too, absolute classic.
Strange, I have that Bassettīs feeling when wearing Egoiste, you know those round ones, covered with tiny blue dots.
Azzaro PH incoming in post, looking forward to sampling it.
Does anyone else detect licorice in Egoiste?
Yeah! I managed to find a Nov. 2010 (black collar) bottle today! Felt like I was hiding a gold bullion on my way back home.
Nice find! Mind you, the code can be seen on the outer box as well. Itīs embossed on the bottom.
Yep. You should have seen the face of the sales assistant yesterday, when I was going through the bottles and tapping my iPhone...
