I think C for Men is outstanding, but would never pay full retail.
regardless of personal fragrance taste, the fact that there are demonstrable batch variations and notorious longevity problems with a lot of their modern releases, the answer has to be a "no" here. ...
I got terrible longevity with this the first time I sampled it. It didn't strike me as particularly distinctive in relation to other patchouli dominant scents either, but I'll give it any try or two.
From your recommendations, I'd get in on a split of Tobacco Vanille or buy the Back to Black refills.
Most people seem to recommend Creed's as some kind of entry level, gateway niche brand...
flouris knows what's up.
honestly thought this was a joke thread when I read the title.
It's £78 for 100ml in Harrods.
I tried this at Harrods on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised on initial sniffing. Longevity seems to be a beast on the scent strip as it's still going strong now.
Have a 15ml bottle of Flou. It's good but not for me. Was given samples of Vikt and Ore - Vikt is fucking crazy, and has a weird vegetable note which I can't quite put my finger on, but it's still...
We could definitely do with a UK version of TPC. Hell the rest of the world could do with a new version of TPC that isn't ridiculously overpriced.
fucking love it freddie! i write "cologne show", second update coming Monday!
I need this in my life.
add Vanille Absolument to your l'artisan list.
usually in a negative way! "this guys (nondescript) cologne is disgusting", and I automatically assume it to be a Hugo Boss scent.
Only tried what's in the shops and it's one of the weakest/worst "powerhouses" I've sampled.
thread has me laughing hard. imagine someone asking what you're wearing in a professional setting - "why Spiderman EDT of course!"
no doubt it's better than a lot of modern designer releases...
you were considering buying a fragrance just to get tattooed?!
i'd go with DHI if she's hot and you wanna get down afterwards/during.
Don't feel like wasting any of my precious vintage juice, and as I'm doing some shopping in town anyway, I'll just use the cheap option of spraying the reformulated tester in the dept store.
From the two listed - AS. Of any available - Halston Man Amber.
Love this one, but I love INTRICATE (basically the Oud line's version of Complex) even more. It's insanely overpriced and ridiculously offensive even hours after application, but damn it rules.
Seems to suffer from the same problem as Roja Dove's Aoud - exceptional quality but too fleeting for the pricetag.
been trying it out some more over xmas/new year. i'm picking up a strong similarity to Tobacco Vanille. does anyone else get the spiced gingerbread note in both?
decent/very good (24 gold)
Been searching the forum for the past couple of weeks in a vain hunt for any more info on this brand. I tried Tabac Royal last month and it was great, but REALLY expensive.
Yep, alternatively, aimed directly at the toilet bowl.
Damn, I forgot about this absolute beauty. My favourite amber!
24 Gold takes a steamin piss over the original 24 fragrance, which is a generic dept store mess. Definitely try 24 Gold if you can.
I'l try it, but have low hopes.
so on top of all the other bullshit, they're selling used product? unfuckingbelievable. mugler needs to fuck off and go to the wall (after I've bought back ups of Angel, Alien and their flankers of...
Favourite of '11 = 24 Gold and Pure Havane.
I can't stress enough how good 24 Gold is.
I'm considering buying this as it's cheap as hell in ASDA right now. Does anyone think I should wait until I can find the vintage instead?
It rules, as does the La Gout version.
Yes, but it's still good.
Such a tough choice between Vetiver and Kouros.
I've been waiting for 24 Gold to go on sale and snagged the 50ml on Boxing Day. Shit's incredible. I get a delicious mix of amber, jasmine and raspberry.
The more I've been spraying and wearing this, the more I've noticed an anise note for the first hour or so which adds a hint of sweetness to this sexy, manly beast.
or alternatively for a fraction of the cost:
Leather Oud is a beast and one of my favourites.
HOT Always and Nuits de Noho but they smell like shittier versions of Givenchy Gentleman and Angel respectively.
Yea this fragrance is definitely in need of a Sport version. Good god.
Check out the recent Alien La Gout de Parfum. It's the salted butter caramel version.
+ Guerlain Vetiver
Most 80s powerhouses fit in here too.
How similar is this to the original? It's on offer over here at thefragranceshop right now and I'm curious. Is it a lighter "summer" version or the OG juice just repackaged?
Estee Lauder - Beautiful 30ml EDP & body lotion gift set.
Buy loads of samples. Buy loads of full bottles.
I know women apparently love this, but women also like Twilight and going to the bathroom with their friends. When I first got into fragrances I thought this smelled classy but god knows what I was...
Not in my collection, but Blood Concept AB wins this contest by a country mile. Goddamn.
Not tried this but being a Bogart, I have high expectations.
I don't work in a standard office environment, but if I did probably Grey Vetiver or Dior Homme would be the ones I'd reach for if I was in a rush and couldn't be bothered deliberating.
Benetton - Colors Man
Tom Ford - Tobacco Vanille 5ml decant
This is on my "to buy" list.
Don't layer fragrances but I occasionally layer single note perfume oil with a scent on top.
Francesco Smalto - Pour Homme
Gres - Cabochard
Balenciaga - Portos
Cuir de Lancome
This one is closer than all mentioned: Armani Prive - La Femme Bleue. It's like a perfect mix of DH and DHI, but takes a slightly more feminine turn towards the drydown. It's also grossly...
Going by the other scents you've listed, I think you'll like BK a lot more. I personally live New West a lot, but it took some time to win me over.
a 50ml ended for v cheap on ebay last week and I forgot to bid! just gotta bide my time.
Their sprayers are really good though.
Let me be emphatic: the liquid in 95% of Creed's bottles is shit.
Those that are any good are either released once a decade and cost as much as China's GDP or they have comparable designer...
Got a pic of this Munich guy? I'm sure a few guys here would be interested to see.
First time I sprayed it - it reminded me of my dad. (I blame my weak, untrained nose).
Now I own a FB and love it, but wish it lasted longer/projected more past the first 20 minutes.
much cheaper in america than it is in europe...from a european brand, posting from europe. annoying.
Damn, I had considered a blind buy of this (no shops sell it over here from what I can tell) as I heard it was a powerhouse. But being in the vein of those two crappy "fresh" scents has put me off....
Liked it the first time I tried it. Tried it again and came the closest I've ever come to gagging on a scent. It's got that harsh as fuck metallic note which I also get in Secretions. Good god I...
You could've removed "aventus" from your thread title and this still would be the truest thread in basenotes history.
any one from rose/iris/vetiver
All 5 of your poll list are incredible.
Zara For Him is a cheap designer frag with a gorgeous coffee note.
when you wear ARAMIS?
It's my SOTD and I'll be damned if I'm not living like Rick Ross right now
Glad you enjoyed it. I think it's ok and unfortunately get nothing but linear burnt coffee throughout.
I was watching that one. Good win there. What are the longevity and projection like?
5 sprays of black afgano
Amber superfan right here but I'm annoyingly yet to try this.
I've not had a chance to sample this bad boy yet but have seen it described as a "mix of dried fruits and sandalwood". With that in mind, is it comparable to the beautiful beast that is EGOISTE?
Agreed, maybe also try Xerjoff Homme.
A few of the exclusives are awesome and well worth waiting for.
Just ordered a decant of TV so will probably be that.
Excellent choices ChuckW. To those I could honourably mention Shalimar, DHI and Angel.
Not bad. I wish this was available at ASDA/Tesco like the original 24 for men (heavily discounted). I like 24 Gold and it's still kinda cheap at £24.95 for 50ml, but I don't know if I'll pay that.
Selfridges in London.
The house direct (works out cheapest for Tauer frags amongst others)
This is a perfect example of The Thank You Economy in action. 10 years ago, hedonist may have just told a couple of close mates about this poor customer services and le labo wouldn't have worried...
Definition is very sweet and synthetic smelling.
Always thought Fleur du Male was v.similar.
