One of my favourites too!
You've chosen some superb scents - and you're doing the right thing by buying samples.
I hope your samples are big enough for you to try out two or three times. Although first impressions are...
Hi Palmolive.....can you put me down for 1 x "3 of a kind" deal, plus 1 x "Bond no9 - I love NY for Him".
Let me know what and when the next step is.
Can I just add a couple of suggestions?
Try out Bella Bellissima's "Perfect Man" and "Perfect Man Alternative". Also, Penhaligon's "Sartorial".
As you're in Central London, visit one of the two "Les Senteurs" shops. You'll get good advice and help, in an unhurried way, and without sales pressure.
They will make up samples for you to take...
It sounds like an interesting mix of notes....I look forward to trying it out.
That doesn't really surprise me...it's cracking stuff!!
I'm afraid I'm rather late coming to this party! However, I'm so glad I've finally made it......this has been a truly interesting read so far.
Mythrol - you deserve a hearty pat on the back for all...
I'm really looking forward to following this list, but I have one major reservation.....I can see myself being intrigued by a number of scents and it will end up costing me a fortune!
I agree with your description; I managed to get hold of a sample at Debenhams and have to say that I'm a little underwhelmed myself. However, a lady friend - whose opinion on scents I value - was...
But aren't you using fragrance as a tool to make yourself smell good? Whether that's for your own, or for other's benefit, doesn't really matter; you're still wearing fragrance to achieve something....
I tried YSL Live Jazz yesterday........not tried it for quite a while.......it's a good one for a hot day!
It IS just you.....
Where do you work??
I must keep an eye out for this one too.....sounds tempting.
Is it available yet in the UK anybody? If so, where?
Sampling is definitely the way to go with this house. I've sampled most of them, and there's no doubt that they're "different".
There's no questioning their quality, but it's not "love at first...
It's this element that turns me off of Dior Homme........and it's just a little bit too overpowering in the beginning, and too sweet in the drydown. Although I do like Dior Homme Cologne and Eau. :)
I didn't get any fragrance gifts this year....I'm a Derby County fan.....
Looks like you've been busy lately, Grant!!; and this feature looks quite funky - I shall definitely gradually be updating my wardrobe to utilise this feature., Cheers:beer:
I'd echo these comments. I've not been a prolific user of the marketplace, but I can see the value it has for members to increase their collection.
You really must try Sycomore - it's fantastic!!
Also, try and find a sample of Givenchy Vetiver - it's a lovely, "soft" vetiver.
Are we still talking splits/decants here??
Byredo Pulp....the fruitiest fruit you can get, old fruit....
August release??......not too long to wait then!!.....
Calling it "Sauvage" is sacrilege though.
Here's a dictionary definition of "Aromatic".
Maybe some people have mistakenly been using the wrong word. Remember that not everyone that writes on Basenotes has english as their first language....
I understand how you feel after your first (bad) experience of FIF. However, I've used them on occasion and found them to be first class in every aspect; I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them, in...
...and this is yet another, different version - quite different to Eau Sauvage "EDT" or "Parfum" or "Cologne" (all of which I rate really highly).
And that's 500 posts to me!! :)
Vetiverus by Oliver & Co.....only just sprayed it on to my wrist a few minutes ago, but loving it already!
love the name you've given it....:)
Creed samples are some of the easiest to procure....why don't you do some testing?
Have the bath/shower ready to jump into just in case that combination turns out a disaster!!
I bought "Chamade" and "Voyou" from Selfridges in London, just before last Christmas.
Not sure where you're based, but Aveda Shampure (separate shampoo and conditioner) is, without doubt, one of the best you'll ever find.
Performs well and smells fantastic!!
If you like that one, stick with it and take a small "sample size" sprayer of it out with you.
Then you can just re-spray during the day to "top it up"
I've just bought 250ml Creed Selection Verte from this company. Excellent and frequent contact via email, from order to delivery.
Delivery from France to UK took only 3 or 4 days; the item was...
Just stumbled across this article........
Don't spray "in your hands" as they are always more likely to be warmer, causing quicker evaporation. Spray onto your neck and chest.
You should consider moving to a different area.
I often try to think of a particular fragrance for a particular "type" of day. This sounds like an excellent choice; I'll certainly try it out. Cheers!:dankk2:
An excellent choice; I find silage is ok on me and - as had already been said - this one gets its' share of compliments.
Can't disagree with this comment. :2vrolijk_08:
I thought water was the opposite of oil....
Hey..!...careful with the "older man notes" comment....!!.....
Check out "Eau Sauvage"
I understand "MFK"......but not "POME".........what is it?
Creed Original Vetiver.
Takes a couple of wearings to get into it, but then........superb!
When you buy from "Allbeauty", you have the option to pay extra for tracked or special delivery. You chose not to.
They didn't confirm that the item had been despatched...so what? They don't...
So.... the item went astray in transit, and they straight away offered you a no quibble refund.....???
Absolutely dreadful behaviour.....!!!! They should have waited much longer......!!!!!...
Just remembered another one - "Roullier White".
Selfridges is another one that stocks a terrific range. Also, check this out:
Why not try an un-fragranced one? I think "mum" do a good roll-on.
That way, it won't clash with whatever edt he might choose to wear.
I think you'll need to narrow it down a bit......
Yes, but hasn't it been a great day.....?......:lolk:
They're a top rated company - perfectly legit. I've bought from them many times and never had a problem.
Do a search here on basenotes - this kind of question pops up fairly frequently. They've...
Have to agree with this^^
Givenchy Vetiver would be another cracking choice!
Sometimes, these "combinations" can turn out brilliantly.......and sometimes not so....
Very good! :lolk:
Why not just go with Aventus?
If you sent stuff from Germany 2 weeks ago, and it hasn't arrived in UK yet.......that's a long time - even allowing for the German postal service!
This seems to be the norm........
Why don't you ask the postal/shipping service in your own country what the rules are in this respect?
The name says it all!
Brilliant stuff - just got a bottle today.:vrolijk_26:
Was this delivered by Royal Mail?
This doesn't seem to be listed on the UK website - perhaps it's not available here (yet)??
I've always tended to shy away from the "lipstick/powdery/make-up bag" type of scent that comes with a strong iris presence, so haven't tried this one out yet; but I do enjoy Prada Vetiver Infusion...
Think I need to use up my Concentree and get some of this EDP. I've always been a fan of Chanel Pour Monsieur, and this sounds good!
Why don't you read through the whole thread!!!!??????
And where have I said I don't believe HIM???????
What a load of waffle and utter tripe!!
Salim lives in Sheffield; his buyer - he tells us - lives in London. This item wouldn't have been shipped by air - it's 3 hours by motorway, about 160...
I agree with this.
What are you moaning about? The problems here are all caused by you!
Just learn from the experience.
If you make your pilgrimage next week, we could well bump into each other!
I've bought samples from them online, and I agree - they have a good choice, they're generous, and they give a very prompt service. I've never been to their shop, but I'm hoping to spend a few days...
Don't know ALL of those, but there are some brilliant suggestions there.
Whatever it is in Chanel no5 does something for me....
I also really like that fresh and fruity smell I associate with "The Body Shop" toiletries.
I have just looked at the Chanel website, and they don't show an EDP as such; they have EDT Concentree and show a picture of the bottle marked "Eau de Parfum".
Hi Gav, welcome to Basenotes.
Aventus is great stuff - but only if YOU like it!
Take the advice of everyone on here and beg, buy or borrow samples before you part with the cash - and try over...
I tried a tester of this a while back and straight away I thought I'd smelt something similar to this before......after plumbing the depths of my memory, I realised that it was reminding me of...
The order that I placed online late on the 29th October arrived this morning. (Nov 4th).
It was a mixture of full bottles and samples (plus a few freebies - very nice!).
That's six days -...
Is that for Europe or North America?
I ordered online, late at night, on the 29th; everything I ordered was listed as in stock and I had an order confirmation straight away.
I had an email notification the next day (30th) advising me...
So sorry to hear you're not too well - hope you're better soon. I can only echo the comment above - it's been a pleasure dealing with you. You're a true gent - there aren't many of us...
Chanel Sycomore, Green Irish Tweed, Eau Sauvage, Divine l'Homme Sage. There are plenty more.....
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and Eau Sauvage.
Thumbs up from me too - never had a problem of any kind. Good prices, good service, fast delivery!
David - they have Pure Havane on the uk site:
Here's my suggsted nine:
Tom Ford Extreme.
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver.
Creed Green Irish Tweed.
Thanks for the info!
If you find out who will be stocking this line in London, please let us know. Cheers!
This sums it up for me too.
I've always interpreted Dior Homme as powdery - more than any other I've come across, I think. This one doesn't do anything for me, but seems to get some good reaction from the ladies!
Was the fault with Scentsamples or Royal Mail?
A well written, highly informative and illuminating piece; thanks Alfarom.
You're keeping us all in suspense, Kron............
This certainly was a very useful function. I hope it'll be re-instated eventually. I always found it very informative to read through threads concerning a fragrance that I'd just read reviews of.
Hednic - this is one that's on my radar, but I'm not finding a great deal of opinions on it. (I realise it's fairly new). I would really appreciate your take on this one. Thanks.
To the OP - an...
Michael Kors is good stuff - go for that one.
