I agree with you on this one. Cool bottles, but that's about it.

Thanks so much for coming on here, Shashi - not only for acknowledging us, which is very flattering, but also for snuffing out the speculations about Luca. I figured that you guys knew what he was...
^ I thought Amouage was hard to wear (it still is, IMO) until I tried the Roja Dove line.
Some fragrances I smell and just reject them with no looking back, but I've tried and tried and tried to "get" what Dior Homme is all about and I just can not stand it - and I love iris fragrances.
I'm surprised by the dislike of Fate Man - it's definitely not an easily-approachable scent but I find that attribute to have great potential for further discovery and deeper appreciation for this...
I wish Portrait of a Lady came in a rollerball form.
Parfumerie Generale Iris Oriental.
I went with the original Gucci Pour Homme its clean, dry incense.
Luca Turin makes a case where the iris plus the other notes suggest a Fig Newton, but I have yet to detect this.
Good thread, by the way.
I've got a sample of the 1970s Vol de Nuit parfum as well as a bottle I bought in late winter of 2013 - both are beautiful and the only noticeable difference to me is the slightly bitter...
Tilda Swinton Like This would be perfect, but I'm thinking the best one personally for me would either be Safran Troublant or a lighter incense like Comme des Garcons 2 Man.
I've given this subject thought and I concluded that there are three:
Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui - I've only smelled and owned the vintage, and not only is it a beautifully complex scent but it is...
So, how do you "follow" members so you can be notified if they make a For Sale thread?
And this is exactly how I feel about them.
My wish list includes, for the new releases, Amouage Fate Man, but I also hope there's a bottle of Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur in my stocking as well.
Yeah, Erwin Creed looks like one of those European royalties that get in trouble while in New York and it all gets written about in Vanity Fair.
I've thought the same thing about Tom of Finland, where you could put that juice into a Roja Dove bottle and put it amongst his other offerings and people would probably say, "I find this one the...
Ohh, yeah, that's a good one.
Jean Claude Ellena is a good looking dude.
This one makes sense to me because it refers to one of the original strains of cannabis, the Hindu Kush kind, and the variants that have Afgan names. The "Black" is of course the color of the juice...
WHEN WAS AVENTUS RELEASED???!!!:dankk2:
Seriously, though, here's some great years with just a few choice releases:
1933 - Vol de Nuit, Sous Le Vent
1921 - No. 5, Habanita
1924 - Chanel Cuir...
Vol de Nuit - first one pops into my head that must be here
Geranium Pour Monsieur - my fresh scent and my go-to airplane scent
Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui - I love 80's powerhouse scents and this...
When I go back to New York I just have to stay away from Bergdorf Goodman because I WILL buy a bottle of one of the JARs.
There's many, many fantastic and comprehensive collections in this thread but I find Hordak's one of the most intriguing.
I have a bottle of the Iris Oriental, aka Iris Taizo elsewhere I suppose, in the mail. I smelled many of the PG line at Osswald in New York. I highly recommend this store with the quality selection...
My opinion is definitely questionable because I also never detect ginger in fragrances. I eat it all the time but the smell (is it like ginger ale?) in fragrances to evade me.
So, in the U.S. it is named Creation E because of a copyright issue.
Now, take this with a grain of salt because I was overwhelmed that day I was in Osswald (I had only 45 minutes before closing...
These are some complicated concoctions, and considering the price of them it is going to take some time for me to inevitably purchase one of his creations, because it's going to require some...
Went by Oswaalds yesterday and spent a very short hour in there - what a great collection they have.
I have to give an update and a shout-out to the people at ZGO in the Castro. They have extended their line of Amouage to include Honor and Fate and then the Tribute attar.
Also, they are the only...
Just don't associate Timbuktu with the jungles of Africa and you'll be safe in a politically correct way.
I've got to agree with:
OdlR Pour Lui
Giorgio for Men
but I also want to add:
Caron Third Man - is it $20 a bottle? No but it is still so inexpensive for the magic you get in that...
Tubereuse Criminelle by day, Liaisons Dangereuses by night.
All the ones I've tried have been pretty unrefined and amateurish.
Thanks for posting. I'd love to go to his shop some day.
You're very welcome.
This poll is useless without Giorgio For Men.
I don't know if what she said was true or not - for example, the U.S. is not the one restricting fragrance ingredients "for your protection" and we certainly don't have a culture and history of...
I like fried smelt.
Considering how unpredictable Le Labo's juice actually is, compared to past names and press releases, I am excited because I happen to be a fan of this house.
This is awesome.
Tomato leaf smells strongly of unwashed armpits to me, so I can't handle it in fragrances.
I've had many a meal ruined by some woman wearing Poison in my vicinity.
Hmmm, one persons steps forward with accounts of "vintage bottle, strange bottle" of Creed yet photographs are forbidden? Out of all the vintage geeks in the world and especially on this forum with...
Why? Is there something I should know?!
But think about this - of all the vetiver fragrances out there that someone in like Amarillo, Texas could get access to in a department store and smell, it would be this one. So it's probably a good...
I just don't see the draw of these Youtube reviews, after I've watched many of them mentioned in this thread. They are all awkward, repetitive, and most of the guys are just plain sloppy looking. Me...
I like both a lot. To me, Terre has always been a cool weather scent for me while Voyage is for hot/warm weather. Also, unlike other people who complain of its quick disappearance, Voyage lasts a...
I care for all of them deeply - to the point where they all call me "Mommy", which I know is crazy because I'm a dude.
Voyage d'Hermes ratchets from on phase to the next quite dramatically on me.
WTF are you talking about?
Dior Leather Oud - dirty, primal, and of course leather.
This is a good topic. So my wish-list is vintage, as the topic requires, and are in the extrait form:
Sous le Vent
Bois des Iles
Diorissimo - Alright, I'm editing out this one...
Thanks for sharing this.
I was very happy to try the newest reformulation because I actually didn't like the version the danielplainview liked in the striped bottle.
Came on here to say this.
Thank you for sharing this study - it would be a fascinating subject of discourse if everyone was rational about it. But, alas . . .
Conversely, I have yet to find one that exactly does that. I think I would be freaked out if and when it happens and you will know because I will be dumping the rest of my collection.
Does the bolded mean "synthetics", I assume? That's good imagery.
Wow, there's some really interesting things you guys pick up in Voyage.
Here's some additions, although some have already been mentioned:
Jacqueline - On Geary. The proprietor, named Andre, is definitely a curmudgeon who I've gotten to know and sincerely like. He's...
Honestly, I could own all four of the Incense Series and be happy - but then again I can be happy just owning Avignon. I certainly like all of them.
I get a smoky, but light, incense in both the EdT and EdP. Maybe that?
Yeah, my wife gets soooo pissed off when I wear Portrait of a Lady - she starts busting my balls on things I did literally a year beforehand. It's like it flips a switch in her brain. I only wear it...
So would it be safe to say that, for you, Encre Noir is a Panty-Dropper?????
I agree wholeheartedly with drseid and hedonist222 about Coeur de Vetiver Sacre and 34 Boulevard St. Germain - I've noticed in the past you two have been quite evangelical about these two fragrances...
Portrait of a Lady, and it ain't even close.
Broke a bottle of Chanel Pour Monsieur aftershave balm a few months ago.
That bottle looks empty.
What does "approaching the crack" mean?
Guys, if you want something beside a pipe tobacco smell then you should wear Yosh Sombre Negre, which smells like rolling tobacco.
Agree with Jon Rodgers on Herrera for Men - that is my favorite tobacco.
The best jasmine soliflore available, in my opinion, is Olene.
Diptyque has to be my favorite niche. Another one that I'd recommend is L'eau de L'eau which is a lovely, straightforward spicy potpourri with clove at the forefront.
Another one deserving mention is George F. Trumper Sandalwood - a good buy on a creamy sandalwood.
To ME, Insense smells a lot like Odeur 71.
I've got a big ol' bottle of Hermes Eau d`Orange Verte eau de cologne at 400 ml.
I think 34 Boulevard St. Germain masterfully tiptoes that line between the two.
Thanks for posting this article. I find this fascinating to think that such a "wiring" anomaly in the brain could be a curse to some as well as an almost magical gift in others, or a curse and gift...
I'm surprised by the scarcity of Commes de Garcons fragrances.
Of course they can do what they want, but I think it's a common courtesy to respect the intent of what the original poster had for the thread they made.
Oh, here's mine:
Loved - Leather
I find it amusing that people lack such basic reading comprehension skills. Oh, and the OP emphasized to list just one note for each.
Wow, man, stony . . .
Not a fan of them because they are missing something in all of them that affect me emotionally. They're almost "clinical", with good execution and ingredients but lack soul.
So . . . . you vote "con"?
After reading your post, I referred to the ratings and it IS a lukewarm overall review! This is a big favorite of mine as well.
Giorgio for Men
Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui
The mint in Geranium Pour Monsieur.
That whole article is so horrible that borders on satire.
The vintage atomizer can unscrew, no?
Eau Illuminee by Parfums DelRae - bright and warm.
I don't know if this is what you meant, but he is a good looking older guy, and this is coming from a straight guy, and I believe that he as the "artisan" of Hermes' current fragrances would make for...
Gotta agree with those who said Portrait of a Lady
I think the one that other people notice the most from a distance is Terre d'Hermes, though.
