  1. Re: Bleu de Chanel...what a suprise for me!!

Is it because those ingredients which were the hallmark of the wonderful scents from the '70s and '80s are now disallowed, but that Blue has been formulated within the limitations of the new...
  2. Re: Which scent is loved by Europe and hated in America or vice versa

It's clear this is the case, Weylin. I feel many people are simply unaware that alternatives exist. Let's face it, a staggeringly huge proportion of people in the world make little effort to find out...

    Re: Concert suggestions

Of course the ideal scent for a Motorhead gig is "Eau du Mais" by Jim Beam.
  4. Re: English niche houses vs French and Italian

I found Endymion and Trafalgar very pleasant and certainly not half-baked, but they are so different from say, the opening of Pour Monsieur it's like comparing classical music to really good pop....
  5. Re: Fahrenheit: My thoughts on current formulation

I just checked my Fahrenheit, 1N01. It does not seem to project or hold long on me. OK, I can smell it after say 5 hours, but only very close. It's almost like I've got a blind side to this scent,...
  6. Re: Which scent is loved by Europe and hated in America or vice versa

In Japan and Korea this would be an issue which the wearer would take in to a/c. In China they would care far more about making sure that the scent they were projecting cost a lot of money.

Re: Too overpowering / Too soft

Spray twice and tell them to get over it- it won't be a problem in an hour. You can always open a window or remind them it's your car.
  8. Re: Which scent is loved by Europe and hated in America or vice versa

For many people in The West, one of those precious, rare pleasures is the "new car smell", especially if it has leather seats. I love the smell of good leather. It is nosefood of the highest calibre....
  9. Re: Feeling kind of bored with fragrances lately... What do you suggest I try?

I decided to go out and "buy a little camera" about 18 months ago. I am now a member of 3 photography forums, have around 35,000 shutter actuations and have spent quite a lot of money in the process....
  10. Re: Feeling kind of bored with fragrances lately... What do you suggest I try?

How about not wearing anything for an entire month then starting again from scratch, making notes in a diary?
  11. Re: Is my sense of smell non-existent or do I need to train it?

Many reasons, including postage hassles from The EU/US and the fact that if I do set myself up to buy online I will have a constant stream of little parcels coming to me from overseas which, in the...
  12. Re: Is my sense of smell non-existent or do I need to train it?

I am assuming this advice was given in friendship. If so, I can understand the motivation for it. I joined a watch forum- I now have several thousands pounds worth of watches. A shaving forum- 5...
  13. Is my sense of smell non-existent or do I need to train it?

    Hello all
I am getting the feeling that my nose is awful! I do understand that some very talented and commited people spend years and years training in this art, but checking my first ever...

    Re: What affects longevity?

I have pure aloe vera gel mixed in with pure glycerine which I use after shaving from time to time. Would the membership recommend I apply this a few minutes before spraying? I generally spray on my...
  15. Re: So, just which frags can you trust these days?

    I know.
    Sorry.
  16. Re: why you should NOT buy from Amazon.com

I don't want to go further down this road. Politics is not acceptable according to the posting rules and the information is readily available. We should also remember that one man's "Common Sense" is...
  17. Re: Which of the Greats are still Great?

I am ok with a close scent and one which projects also, just concerned about the seemingly constant, appalling drop in quality. I am looking and looking at all these supposedly legendary names...
  18. Re: why you should NOT buy from Amazon.com

Having learned about the working conditions of those employed by Amazon UK, I'm not surprised they make money. I personally would rather spend a little more than have yet another doughnut town.

    Vanilla?

Pactically every other fragrance I've looked at or seen on the forums contains vanilla. What is goin on? Has vanilla oil suddenly got really cheap? It just seems like such a mundane ingredient.
  20. Re: Chanel Les Exclusifs - uninspiring?

So is Chanel the Patek Philippe of the parfum line?
This thread really reminds me of discussions about The Calatrava I've seen on watch forums. Some love the understated luxury, some cannot believe...
  21. Re: Versace Eros - Extremely Disappointed

I'm only new here, but it seems that IFRA has a problem. Just put a frigging disclaimer in the bottle for God's sake!
They let anti-psychotic drugs onto the market that make people kill themselves,...
  22. Re: why you should NOT buy from Amazon.com

I am/have been a member of several forums and there is one thing they all have in common. People trying to save a few bucks anyway they can. And when I say "a few" I really mean pennies in the grand...
  23. Re: why you should NOT buy from Amazon.com

I buy everything from a real shop, after having checked it out on-site and in-person. I do not agree with Amazon's business model.
  24. Re: Got my First Comment (complaint) today. Funny Story

I used to be in a relationship with a woman who wore Poison and Rive Gauche simultaneously ('96 vintage). She would almost pour it over herself. We broke up and a few months later I was in a local...
  25. Re: Which of the Greats are still Great?

I remember wearing Jazz and Aramis. I cannot remember if I ever actually had a bottle of either, but I suppose I must have. I don't think I've even seen any around but you know what it's like- once...
  26. Re: What female scents are even deadlier on the male?

I got a sampler pack form Floris and had no idea Cefiro was for women. I loved it.
And I think you mean keys in the bowl when it comes to Opium, no? :-)
  27. Re: Which of the Greats are still Great?

That's the thing though isn't it? I had no idea until I discovered this site which companies were "sub-contractors" and which were actual Parfumiers. I was all excited at having found Prada, cos, you...

  29. Re: Which of the Greats are still Great?

    Hhmm.
Thanks, Cacio. I know there is a lot to get my nose around and since I smoke tobacco, I am at a disadvantage from the off. I am also in China for the moment, so the selection will probably be...
  30. Which of the Greats are still Great?

    Hello all
This is my first post on a fragrance forum. I can hardly believe I am here, but for the longest time I have been reluctant to buy any, despite quite liking the idea of smelling good as the...
  31. So, just which frags can you trust these days?

    Hi all
I have been reading with near despair about reformulations (or the Death of the Greats), especially since I just bought Terre Pur Parfum a few days ago.....which I now gather is only about...
