Alfred Sung Homme - it's not only cheap, it lasts for like eighteen hours.
For your specific requirements I would recommend Le Male, A*Men, or 1 Million. If you want to try something really edgy you could go for Dior Homme Sport.
The Chanel eau is very good. Guerlain's Du Coq and Imperiale are also very nice (not as long lasting as the Chanel). Acqua di Parma is overpriced, stuffy, and not to be taken seriously.
Royalle Muske - clean, sparkling white musk, with a tiny trace of sweetness. It's a delightful, simple scent.
Both are superb. If you like the non-concentree version you might also try Parfums de Nicolai New York, which has essentially the same shape as the Chanel but lasts for eight or nine hours.
No one seems to have noticed this. The moist towelette version doesn't smell much like the actual fragrance.
Why not Guerlain Vetiver?
All these suggestions are good, but I would add Salvador Dali pour Homme.
I got a bottle from Luckyscent - it's very nice, quite soapy and astringent, the geranium is smooth, the longevity seems good so far. Totally unisex.
Same here. A spectacular scent with excellent longevity.
I've selected fragrances that are easy to find and relatively inexpensive:
- Guerlain Vetiver: a great example of sophisticated perfume, a great year-round scent, and an introduction to vetiver....
Yatagan. Eloge du Traitre does last longer, but Yatagan is a much better scent.
Try going to the website!
Very very different. Going by your top ten you'll like Body Kouros much better than the original.
I doubt that you will like it.
Kouros. YSL has some other good scents, but nothing as titanic as Kouros.
CB I Hate Perfume used to offer a custom service:
But it looks like he's not taking any new customers right now.
Suggestions for the designer five (I would cut Eau Fraiche, TdH and L'eau d'Issey):
Bleu de Chanel or Egoiste Platinum (not Chanel's best, but summer-appropriate and inoffensive)
Kouros is way prettier.
Why would anyone fake an aftershave?
Make sure to dilute it with vodka first.
YSL M7 - 6
Encre Noire by Lalique - 6
Chanel Allure Homme - 6
Chergui by Serge Luten - 6
Creed GIT - 9
Me too - much too dank.
Forgive me, but this seems to be an utterly futile pursuit. This is like trying to define "loud music" or "flashy clothing"; everyone will have a different answer. For instance I had never before...
Antaeus and Guerlain Vetiver.
People respond sarcastically to this kind of question because it's silly.
Too true! I have a few sweaters from the mid 1990s stored in my parents basement; they still smell faintly of Joop!.
Not counting Joop! I've found By Kilian's A Taste of Heaven and Caron Pour un...
Many of them troll/flame about Creed, in fact!
Do your bottles have scars where the serial numbers were sanded off, or are they just blank? In my opinion if they still smell good after eight years...
I would just get one of the Guerlain EDCs (probably du Coq) instead. I found the R&G Jean-Marie Farina rather disappointing, kind of too sticky and syrupy for an eau de cologne.
I don't mean to pick on you here but I don't follow your logic. By this reasoning one could make literally any claim about history and then dismiss criticism of it. I could write that George...
The closest I can think of is Platinum Egoiste.
So would the author need to find a Creed ancestor's journal that said "January 12, 1781: Today I didn't compose Royal English Leather, a fragrance that one of my descendants will market 200 years...
Sounds great! I'll go there right away for all my perfume needs! I'm so glad to get this unbiased, totally objective information from a respected member of the Basenotes community who is definitely...
Wow! Sounds AWESOME! Where should I send my credit card info????
Joop is far more interesting.
Quite a collection! I'm probably picking some of the least exotic scents -
Eau du Coq
Eau de Cologne Imperiale
Concentree D'Orange Verte
Bottle great, scent so-so. Kind of an electric applesauce feel. I need to go back and give it another shot, it had hints of grandeur.
Agua Brava and Quorum are both great, Agua Lavanda is also nice. I found Aqua Quorum surprisingly nice as well (it's a fairly generic aquatic). I'd be interested to hear opinions on the more esoteric...
You can buy Egoiste directly from Chanel online as well.
Luca, I think camp almost catches it, but I would characterize it more as a very refined sensibility coupled with a good sense of humor. When I think camp I think not only of wit and truth telling...
Parfums de Nicolai's Vie de Chateau is VERY close to Devin, but slightly more floral.
I agree, though PM concentree isn't bad either. Platinum Egoiste and all the Allures pale in comparison to Chanel's older offerings.
I'm quite surprised that this passed without comment. I'm sure that Turin's sexuality has as little influence on his prose style as his astrological sign does. I don't find the assertion that only...
I like that Turin often starts talking about airplanes, as if all his readers would immediately understand a comparison between a perfume and a particular kind of Cessna; it should be ridiculous but...
Bronner's is great stuff - their lavender soap also smells pretty amazing. I get almost pure peppermint from the peppermint soap, so maybe a peppermint essential oil would be the way to go (I know...
Hey.it's.me, you might take another shot at the Guerlain Vetiver. I know it took a while to grow on me, and I've also noticed that the first few sprays out of a new bottle don't always represent how...
Etro vetiver and, on the cheap end, Royall Vetiver both feature a raw, prominent vetiver note. You should be able to detect it quite easily in the Guerlain Vetiver as well. I find the current...
JohnJohn, respectfully, you are not a moderator and you don't own this thread because you started it. You're free to ignore the discussion of price and value if you don't find it interesting, but if...
This is manifestly untrue, especially of luxury goods, and it also says absolutely nothing about the product's quality. The "correctness" or incorrectness of the pricing does not correspond to the...
Arlington by D.R. Harris might fit your bill.
Luckyscent is very reliable for niche frags - with niche scents (other than Creed) you rarely have to worry about fakes - no one's going to bother faking Andy Tauer or Serge Lutens when there's a...
Zino's rose is not in the least feminine - no cause for worry there!
Where can you get Mouchoir de Monsieur and Derby in the US?
From the Mumonkan:
I've also been searching for an eau de toilette strength Aqua Velva. Sung Hei disappointed me terribly - it didn't smell like much of anything, certainly not like Aqua Velva.
Guerlain, Chanel and YSL.
Royall Bayrhum is delightful, and Royall Muske is endearingly simple and sweet. I don't find the rest of the line particularly compelling.
In the introduction to Perfumes Luca Turin asserts that contamination with skin particles or oils is nothing to worry about.
WeSmellGood, if the possible inauthenticity of your A*Men bottles is bothering you so much you should return them or give them away and order a new bottle direct from Thierry Mugler.
Both are very good. Eau du Coq is magnificent, while Eau Sauvage is a little more muted and refined. As others have said, du Coq lasts about an hour, while Eau Sauvage lasts much longer. If I had to...
Caron Pour un Homme
Caron 3eme Homme
Chanel Pour Monsieur (regular or concentree - I just got the non-concentree version and I can't say that I prefer one to the other)
Absolutely - I don't know why it is, and it doesn't happen all the time, but I've noticed that the first spray from a new bottle often smells off or stale. In my experience it always gets better.
St. John's Bay Rum may be just what you're looking for.
EDIT - I'll reiterate, because I think the OP would really like this; Saint Johns Bay Rum. St. Johns is a terrific, very spicy traditional...
You might read Clifford Geertz's "Art as a Cultural System," if your professor hasn't assigned it already. A cross-cultural perspective might help reframe the debate in a less arbitrary, western...
I doubt that anyone from Creed's executive corps reads Basenotes. Basenotes members represent a tiny portion of the whole fragrance market, and BN members buy tons of Creed products and discuss Creed...
If you're missing the rose part of the fragrance then something is off. Was this a sample or a full bottle?
No fragrance. Wear a tie.
My heart weeps for all these generous perfume companies manufacturing fragrances at a loss! Perhaps we could take up a collection so that their owners can feed their children? Erwin Creed has a...
Pure Malt looks fine. Beautyencounter.com is legit as well.
No steps for me - I live for the thrill of blind-buying full bottles. I have yet to be truly disappointed.
Don't wait too long to buy 3e Homme - it's absolutely fantastic.
Tania Sanchez gives Jovan Sex Appeal a rave review in Perfumes. I wish I were brave enough to buy a bottle.
Jacomo for Men
Azzaro PH is really that good. If Montale released Azzaro pour Homme today and called it "Djibouti Ochre" Basenoters would be hocking their Rolexes to buy it.
I'm not sure if it's a great...
You can get ~750ml of Puig Agua Lavanda for less than $20, though the bottle's plastic and not particularly fancy.
Right on with this. I don't think that anyone would find Guerlain Imperiale unpleasant.
Guys, can you help me determine if my GIT is authentic? I got it from an ebay seller from Xilinhot, Mongolia for $3.50 including shipping. It didn't come with a box or a bottle, the frag was just in...
If you're weirded out by the concept of backup bottles you may find much of Basenotes pretty baffling.
Getting a backup is just getting the replacement at the same time as the original, instead of...
I've ordered tons of stuff from Fragrancenet and I've never had damaged packaging or an obviously off fragrance. Almost all have come with cellophane.
I do wish they would stop sending those...
Azzaro Pour Homme
Caron Pour un Homme
Eau du Coq
Plus a bunch of the harder to find Guerlains - nice wardrobe!
I don't think I've ever done more than three. I may have learned moderation by wearing nothing but Joop! Homme for years and years. More than three sprays of that would have melted plastic and killed...
Rumblefish knows what he likes!
First of all, thanks to Jaime for his excellent blog post on the different kinds of fougere.
I've recently been enjoying two very popular aromatic fougeres, Paco Rabanne pour Homme and Azzaro pour...
I find Encre Noire a little more compelling than the Etro vetiver, but they're fairly similar. I don't think you have any cause to worry - if you're a vetiver enthusiast you'll certainly like the...
You might try some of the Joop! fragrances. Basenotes has a love-hate relationship with them but most of them are inexpensive, nice smelling, and they will get you through an entire day of classes...
A CEO would probably smell decisive.
Here are some readily available fragrances that came to mind:
Thierry Mugler A*Men (surprised no one suggested this - keep in mind that it's rather sweet)
Thierry Mugler Cologne...
Les Nereides Imperial Opoponax
Well there's a big difference between the somewhat outdated general terms "orient" and "oriental" and the perfume term "oriental." Orient refers to any of the countries of Asia, which would include...
Caron pour un Homme. Vanilla totally without sweetness.
Beautyencounter is totally fine, I've ordered plenty of stuff from them. Not always the fastest shipping or the lowest price, but their stuff is legit. I wish they offered more coupon codes or a...
