Portrait of a Lady would be tempting, but so would Tonka Imperiale.

Portrait of a Lady would be tempting, but so would Tonka Imperiale.
Bumping this because I finally had another dream where I clearly smelled a perfume. It was Creed's Millesime Imperial, which is weird because it's been well over a year since last smelling it. It...
Guerlain Homme Boisee is a great suggestion. I'd also suggest Dunhill Icon, a fruity, floral, spicy fragrance perfect for summer. Lush Breath of God is a melon, Incense combo that is perfect in high...
Chanel Eau de Cologne for $31 an oz? Count me in!
I recently wore Clive Christian V and it instantly shot up to one of my favorite incense fragrances. Very smooth and longevity is off the charts. But is it worth the money? Ehh.
I decided to buy a bottle of this because I found one for $20. I laughed when I sprayed it. I have owned Aventus from 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, and this stuff is an absolute dead ringer for...
Green Irish Tweed, of course.
Just out of curiosity, anyone else's favorite batch the first one they tried? 13z01 was my first and I would kill for more of it.
I can only echo everyone's words and say that I too will keep you in my thoughts.
Does anyone have any recommended elemi reference scents? I'd like to smell more before this launches.
Like others, I would highly recommend Guerlain. To get scents like Habit Rouge, Vetiver, LIDGE, Heritage, Homme Intense, L'Eau Boisee, Shalimar and many others for often around $25 a bottle is an...
I'm not sure how to feel about this. As much as I like the original, the new one sounds nice as well. Thankfully, this stuff last for ages with just a couple sprays. Don't need much to last you a...
So less Rive Gauche can, more Axe can?
Getting ready for warmer weather. I bought bottles of Guerlain Homme Intense, Guerlain Homme L'Eau Boisee and Terre d'Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche.
I am a huge fan of Dunhill Icon, but I have found it is surprisingly polarizing. The same goes for many vetiver scents, so Encre Noire Sport may not be the safest bet. I have no idea what the one...
Apparently it was discontinued for some time and this is a rerelease.
Lalique Encre Noire
I'm on the hunt for a bottle of Guerlain Homme Intense with the metal plate. Love the design.
Looking for a bottle of Guerlain Homme Intense, with the metal plate on the front.
Please do not ask me to make an offer, send me a photo with the amount of money you are asking.
Reading your description, the first thing I thought of was Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil.
This almost sounds like an improved Straight to Heaven in some ways. Too bad samples in the US are practically impossible to come by.
I did try another fragrance that, while not a dead ringer for...
I may have posted this before, but I had a dream one time that I met Patton Oswalt in a small comic shop he owned. I walked past him, recognized the scent he was wearing, and asked if he was wearing...
I think you're right. Wearing it again, I feel like it's best for spring, and the lighter version works very well for that.
Terre d'Hermes, Eau Sauvage Parfum, Dior Homme, Shalimar (iconic), Dior Prive (only because of the perfume colors, otherwise not as great) and one of my favorites, Dunhill Icon.
When I first sprayed it on, I could detect some citrus notes, and now in the base, there's wood with the "Millesime" "ambergris" base. The similarity to BdP I detect has to be musk maybe? The more...
In a swap some time ago, I received an unmarked, hand poured Creed sample that the sender could not identify. No clue what it was. Maybe you can help.
It smells like the base of Millesime...
Been a long time bump.
If Creed, or any company, withheld a fragrance because they were trying to "build hype" on sites like Basenotes or Facebook groups, they should immediately fire anyone even remotely associated with...
Got a great deal on a travel set of Dunhill Icon. Comes with two 30ml bottles and case that looks like the original Icon bottle. Very excited to receive it in the mail
One of the options to consider for going fragrance free and still smelling good, according to the article, is to wear a "natural" perfume instead. I didn't need to read anymore after that.
I really want to try to find some of this "Made in France" Bleu. Are there any bottle indicators other than the writing on the bottom?
Carven Homme and Green Irish Tweed are two more good ones. Though Green Irish Tweed is maybe closer to a favorite of mine.
Are there any fragrances that might not make your list of most loved in your collection, but you wear all the time?
For me, while more than one could fit that description, Dior's Eau Sauvage comes...
I remember smelling Baccarat Rouge for the first time and thinking it smelled like Terre d'Hermes Parfum, but with a balanced sweet aspect. I have not found it overly sweet or syrupy whatsoever.
Portrait of a Lady would be my pick.
Atelier Cologne Musc Imperial
Once you are home, remind me and I will send you a healthy sample of the vintage stuff.
Patchouli is the next fragrance I want to go all in on and buy a ton of samples. So I haven't tried many of the most popular patchouli dominant fragrances, but Patchouli Imperial is one of the best...
Was this a new bottle from the store?
Tiffany for Men is one of two fragrances I already own backups of, Guerlain's Heritage being the other. I will continue to buy backups, especially since I always thought if I can't buy the vintage or...
I was just wearing Sultan from Al-Rehab the other night, the EDP spray version, and I was thinking it is kind of similar to Straight to Heaven. Not a dead ringer, but I could see someone looking for...
Used to be dark amber, then went to a translucent pinkish color. Sometimes it looks more pink, but I think it has to do with the volume and angle you view it from.
I usually ask for a handful of less expensive bottles and sample sets. This year was Terre d'Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche and Guerlain Ideal EDT, along with a Tauer, HdP and ELDO sample sets.
What you want is Dolcelisir by L`Erbolario. Cinnamon, honey, caramel and vanilla. Smells like a fresh baked pastry and definitely within your budget.
As a second option, Cologne of the Missions...
This is pretty spot on. There's no denying the power or powder of Tiffany for Men. Personally, the sandalwood note stands above everything else, but it takes getting past the orris root.
I have a...
This thread is perfect for the arguments related to perfume being art. If it is, or if you buy perfume that is, $100 is arguably inexpensive. You can buy dupes for next to nothing if that's what you...
Monsieur Guerlain has an update on this. The website is up, but heavily under construction, and the bottles look strangely family. At least the cap does....
Eau Sauvage is a good one, because so many notes in the fragrance are volatile. I imagine anything from the original formula wouldn't smell nearly the same it did when it was fresh. Most of my other...
Eau des Baux is my go-to recommendation for this kind of thing, but I think most any Mugler A*Men would work well, especially the original, Pure Tonka and Ultra Zest.
Richwood made me think I loved sandalwood from the way people talked about it, when it was the patchouli that I really loved. I came to love sandalwood through other fragrances, but I think Richwood...
I ordered some of these and just received them in the mail. Simply amazing. I will be buying many more!!! Thank you very much for the suggestion.
Sandalwood, or sandalwood and ... ?
Pour Un Homme de Caron is a wonderful historic scent is you want to further explore lavender.
Looking forward to this thread. I think I may have something you will be interested in...
I've worn Guerlain Ideal EDT a few times recently and I have to admit it's growing on me. Totally unisex with a big almond note.
Every time I think I find an amber I really like, I eventually move away from it. Ambre Sultan was nice and interesting, and for a soft amber I like Ambre Fetiche.
I have a hard time picturing this as anything but aquatic Aventus. Ambergris, black currant and oakmoss from Aventus, sea salt and fruity notes from Millesime Imperial.
I have a bunch of Nicolai samples that have no labels and I got them mixed up. Now I have no idea which one is NY and which one is NY Intense.
I still subscribe to many but my current favorite is FragReviews.
Same thing I've worn for the last two years: Olympic Orchids Dev #1.
I struggled for a long time trying to decide what to wear to my wedding. I even let my fiance sample each one multiple times, doing comparison after comparison. I bought new samples too, tried things...
Great list. I have wanted to try Cologne du 68 for a long time now, but I kind of forgot about it. Your description has certainly piqued my interest again. I'm always in search of good, interesting...
I've never seen this before, but I know some companies package refills for testers, etc. in aluminum bottles.
This makes sense, thank you.
I wonder why I cannot find a bottle of Full Incense with anything but the 10 Vendome address.
I'm looking for an older bottle of Montale, and let's just say there's more than a few threads and articles on the authenticity/date of Montale fragrances. One thing I did not find was a definitive...
I actually prefer citrus scents like TdH ETF in the winter or cooler weather. It works very well, the cool "mineral water" that some describe really stands out.
As others have said, there isn't a ton of sandalwood. The newer stuff (2013 and on) is definitely more smooth, but whether or not that can be attributed to sandalwood, I cannot say. I personally much...
That's for you to decide.
Cafe Rose is a little more subtle and sensual. Imagine sitting in a bright cafe while the smell of roses hangs in the air.
Rose Flash is thick and syrupy. Imagine a...
I don't have to say how hard this is, but, well...
Spring: Chanel Sycomore
Summer: Dunhill Icon
Fall: L'Occitane Eau des Baux
Winter: Guerlain LIDGE
Nice! Free shipping to the US. I bought a set, but skipped Tuberose Flash (really do not like tuberose). I can finally get a decent size sample of Fruitchouli and Amber.
Thanks for the heads up.
DS Durga Mississippi Medicine. Smells like the steam pouring out of a freshly extinguished bonfire.
The crew from Fragrantica shared some initial impressions of ACdD after Pitti:
"Wood was the most common theme at Pitti. It was served with spices, smoke and a variety of aromatic notes. For two...
Interesting, what do you not like about it?
All it takes is one person to ruin it for everyone. The first time someone complains that another's fragrance is too strong, most likely by saying their "allergies" are acting up, it's no more scent...
Only recommend one fragrance for other people? I suppose I'd be torn between Grey Vetiver, Sycomore or Dunhill Icon. But I think I'd go with Icon.
Good any season, complex and great from start to...
I can't imagine a much stronger LDDM. This is a definite must sample.
I have the same "W/N" (working name) bottle. I would have loved for it to launch with that name, as a Privet entry. Though I have seen other signature line Tom Ford fragrances in those same bottles...
Has this happened with any other Tom Ford fragrances?
This is my current obsession, and I'm easily getting 6-8 hours. By the end it's a close skin scent, but it smells magical.
This is a good suggestion, and comparatively affordable.
I'd also recommend Phaedon Tabac Rouge, I imagine it would be right up your alley.
This is pretty much always changing for me, but right now I would have to say:
Came to suggest this. Perfect all year round. Different notes seem to take center stage depending on the time of year, but it's always classy, clean and professional. I think of Grey Vetiver EDP as a...
Eau Des Baux is my favorite in this genre.
I've used Slack for several different things. Just recently switched to using Discord for two groups, and I really like it. I believe if there was one, people would use it.
Expensive: Dior Patchouli Imperial
Affordable: Guerlain LIDGE
Both are two of my ultimate favorites.
I have two vintage designer fragrances for sale among a couple others. Prices include shipping CONUS.
$65 - Issey Miyake L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme - 75ml, 99% w/box (early vintage)
Cape Heartache by Imaginary Authors doesn't necessarily smell the same, but it could possibly scratch the same itch.
Saw this earlier today and got excited. I know Nicolai does French, classic type fragrances very well, but I've never tried anything from the Oud line. Any impressions?
Give the affordable Carven Homme a try (make sure to get the clear bottle on eBay for around $18).
Jacques Cavallier comes to mind for many reasons, but Rive Gauche Pour Homme tops the list for me. Truly a modern masterpiece, with little to rival it. Rodrigo Flores-Roux is also high up there and...
Got a backup bottle of Tiffany for Men today, and the same place had a vintage bottle of Le Male, so I figured why not.
Totally forgot about these. Another wonderful option.
Tom Ford also makes 20ml atomizers, but I think you have to buy a large flacon to get one.
Came to suggest the offerings from Frederic Malle and Creed. Creed's are a bit big, but Malle's are the epitome of luxury.
