You want answers? You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!
It's an interest I take part in, and those cost money. If it wasn't fragrances I was dropping my money on, it'd be something else. Occupying one's time can be a rather expensive venture sometimes.
Either Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan or Andy Tauer's L'Air du Desert Marocain, they fought each other for top spot.
But that's just in my experience.
I picked up IX Rocawear for next to nothing because I thought the packaging was so stupidly ridiculous I had to try it. I did and it gave me a headache so bad I had to not only scrub it off...
I'm not sure what they run for today, but back in the day you could obtain the pretty good-smelling Jovan Musk for Men for a pittance and the astonishingly good Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur for just a...
I'm sorry, I can't order these with any sort of confidence, so we'll just go alphabetical.
1. Baie de Genievre
2. Millesime Imperial
3. Royal English Leather
4. Royal Oud
5. Silver Mountain...
Sorry for this double post, but I'm bumping this thread because I've just uploaded pictures! I'd forgotten about this old bottle I received more than 2 years ago, then pulled it out of the cabinet...
Monogram by Ralph Lauren
Chaps by Ralph Lauren (the original one)
Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur by Pierre Cardin
Fendi Uomo by Fendi
Jovan Musk for Men by Jovan
Z-14 by Halston
I-12 by Halston...
The fact that Black Orchid is marketed as a female scent is astounding. It is perhaps the most unisex fragrance specified for one gender that I've ever encountered. I own it and love it, just be...
Oh, forgot about Chaps, that stuff's great as well! I finally emptied my only old bottle some time last year, which makes me sad. I loved that fragrance too.
I didn't like Black, Explorer was alright, and Sport was decently interesting. The one Ralph Lauren offering I really and truly enjoy is Monogram, which was a great scent made in 1985. Unfortunately...
The arguments against sunblock being harmful, especially to the point of causing skin cancer, are totally unfounded and put forward by illogical people with unsatisfactory information. It's almost to...
Joop! Homme - shocked that nobody previously mentioned it, unless I missed it. Longevity monster, I coaxed something like 30 hours on it on one wrist a while back without showering.
I like it a lot, too, but apparently because they claim that there's oud somewhere underneath all the visible notes, it deserves another 100 or so dollars. I've never smelled...
I would recommend La Nuit de L'Homme, which you generally can't go wrong with. It's not too expensive and I find it's usually better received than L'Homme. Test both before you make a decision...
I couldn't help but notice that Le Male was listed twice. Coincidence? I think not! :)
Anyway, I like your collection, it's a really nice representation of a lot of the better non-niche...
Black Orchid and Habit Rouge both qualify and turn heads, but for extremely different reasons.
Probably best to know your audience first!
Tried it in Saks the other day. I wouldn't consider purchasing it, but something about the fragrance was just rather intriguing, kind of set it apart from most of what I smell.
Both significant fragrances, but in terms of which is better it's Aramis by a long shot.
I can't stand calone at all.
Also, for some reason, when violet leaves are prominent in a formulation of any kind, from a Calvin Klein to a Creed, it really bothers me. Sometimes I get a headache,...
"Mr. Slimane, our fashion house is struggling! What should we do?"
"Does the house have multiple words in its name?"
"Yes, it does!"
"Drop the first word, and we'll restore this company to...
Welcome to the world, million and seventh Cool Water flanker!
I can imagine sniffing it once to sate my almost nonexistent curiosity about it and then moving on until flanker 1,000,008.
Just posting in here to let any and all interested in the area know that Moorman's has closed its doors for good. Mr. Moorman passed quite a while ago and his wife was tiring of running the store, so...
Hey there, everybody, good to see you all again... yes, after several months of terrible inactivity with only a visit or two occasionally, I've decided to get back into the swing of things here in...
La Nuit de L'Homme
Very nice wardrobe, Jason.
A*Men Pure Malt
Arabian Nights - Pure Oud
I got a whiff of pure oud back when they had it in the Saks I visit... wonderful.
Angel Men Pure Malt
My god, Marc, 1 Million made my head (and I'm usually VERY headache-resistant) go BOOM!
By Kilian's Back to Black, nice stuff.
2 bottles of Ralph Lauren's Monogram - one 1/5th full and without bottom label or box, one completely full and with both.
I also treasure my Baie de Genievre, New Haarlem, and Back to Black, but...
some good occasions to wear By Kilian's Back to Black?
I received a bottle for Christmas and though I love the scent (and the classy but flashy packaging) I can't think of many times to use it...
I was given Burberry Brit for Men as a gift last Christmas.
It's definitely legitimate and it smelled perfectly fine, but I haven't used it in a long time. It's just been sitting around in...
If you really want to impress your ladyfriend, ask her to come testing with you. I agree, fragrances are for you, but in your situation, ask her what she likes.
I'm not saying that you should buy...
No particular order here:
Ralph Lauren Monogram
oh, and if you include A*Men as a powerhouse, it's in there.
Hey everybody, I'm just now finishing up with my antibiotic regimen (I was sick with bronchitis and a sinus infection, needed to steer clear of cologne for a while), and I really need to know: Where,...
Well, "looking for power". I've found that Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford and Silver Mountain Water by Creed fit that description. I haven't the money for them, maybe you do?
Test others. Acqua di...
I just came back from the doctor's and, as it turns out, I do not have strep throat as I had expected.
I actually have a sinus infection, which is draining into my ears, down my throat (causing...
It's discontinued now, but I'm pretty sure if you looked around you could get it fairly cheap.
Baie de Genievre by Creed.
It has a cinnamon leaf note in it which I've found unmatched.
Just curious, who told you this? Adrenal fatigue is a term in modern Quackery ("alternative" ""medicine"") to get you to buy their sugar pills. It can be medical, like in adrenal insufficiency or as...
Oh my God.
The evil has spread here. Quickly, fellow Hoosiers, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!
Oh, God, yes!
I have a sample of this and Paul Sebastian Fine Cologne (which is a different scent than PS), and I swear to God, I've never had to be more conservative in my life! I wish I could...
People have different likes and dislikes, and are entitled to think that your fragrance is not a very good one. That's true, I see it, and I abide by it. The only thing that truly annoys me down to...
I have Perceive for Men (safe fresh scent I've never even worn once, but cool geometric bottle), HisStory (neat name but horrible bottle, the scent is just another safe, mildly spicy fresher.) I also...
I have to agree, thank goodness I still have two bottles.
Please don't hate me for this recommendation. :)
I'm going to suggest Ralph Hot by Ralph Lauren (2006).
Incredibly stupid name aside, it's a sweet gourmand, it's fairly competitively priced,...
I've sniffed it. It smelled really pretty wonderful, but feminine... I guess if you can pull it off, wear it.
Well, as I've seen... the fakes are completely different. They barely ever even attempt to give it anything that smells at all like it. This includes dangerous chemicals sometimes, so Fakes are the...
Typically, it's a custom to send money as a "Gift" simply to avoid PayPal's transaction fees.
He probably should have told you about it, but over such a paltry amount, I'd pay the $4 and keep the...
Don't forget our Saks. Finding the right salespeople there can score you 10+ niche samples without a purchase.
(I once went there and walked away with not only several Creed and several others...
I'd suggest Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver. Easygoing scent, that one. Very nice.
$140 for a 2.5 ounce Baie de Genievre by Creed.
I'm a paranoid Perry, so I can't bring myself to buy one off of anywhere but Creed.
Retail prices hurt, but it's ease of mind that matters to me.
And tell me - FC Barcelona or Real Madrid?
My hopes have been killed in one swift stroke.
Creed's Virgin Island Water I find to have a lot of coconut, but as previously stated it is very easily unisex so you may not feel distinctly "masculine".
There's some coconut in Tom Ford's Black...
I bought Black Orchid probably a week and a half ago, and it's still hitting me like a ton of bricks.
Yes, yes, I'm sorry if I implied I was worried it was fake, I just thought I'd post it up.
Well, I don't know if anybody will be affected or will care, but I thought I'd just share this with you. I was at Saks Fifth Avenue today looking for a fragrance (which they were out of, thank you...
Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur (or Man's Cologne on my old bottle... is it now officially "Pour Monsieur"?) is a wonderful budget scent. It always has been.
Zirh Corduroy is also an excellent one. I...
You seem to have a wide variety of taste in fragrance. In there, I see a variety of kinds.
Some of Bond's line are rip-offs of Creeds with near exact same price ranges. For example, Chez Bond is a...
+1. Bought a bottle, loved the sample so much, even though at the time I couldn't fathom buying one of their non-millesimes.
Not necessarily my favorite, but here's my thoughts on Thierry Mugler,...
Ralph Lauren Monogram
Davidoff Cool Water
Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur
Prince Matchabelli Hero
No specific tastes, I suppose.
I really do adore some of the Creed line, which is the number 1 contributing factor why I wear it... but still, I suppose the Creed line would be a bit less appealing were it not so exclusive? I...
I've always liked it more than its evil twin, Z-14. (That would make a great car model name, however.)
Agreed. Pure Malt has a beautiful note from the casks it's aged in, whereas Sunessence is basically just a "borified" A*Men.
Awful shame, I imagine the quality will suffer.
Welcome to Basenotes!
Now, you seem to have a pretty good idea there... I'll elaborate.
Allure and D&G are very, very good for your age group - I see more and more high school or college...
Pierre Cardin for Men and Zirh's Corduroy.
Samples are pretty easily obtained anywhere on the internet, though you'd want a trusted, reputable vendor... there's not much of a business faking a small vial for a 1 dollar profit. As for the...
I find Jasmin Imperatrice Eugenie by Creed to be a vanilla BOMB. (I have an official sample of it) Vanilla, Vanilla, Vanilla.
If you're looking for it - JIE has it. A lot of it.
Well, E-bay is almost never a place to buy a bottle of Creed. Some are real, I'm sure, but just too many horrific tales over $50-150 lost on fake juice. Amazon will probably be safe, but you'd want...
Tobacco Vanille Tom Ford 1
Angel Men Thierry Mugler 1
(Great thread, David. Very fun.)
The wonderful thing about my current only bottle of Creed, Baie de Genievre, is that it's beautiful and confident but surprisingly casual. It's great on days I'm not feeling too satisfied with myself...
As far as Erolfa goes, I think you really should just buy a bottle from the Creed website, so many fakes are floating out there (should you decide to purchase a bottle.)
A major American pop star, known for her fairly crazy image and her fairly odd music. I'm not a big fan.
As for summer, there are always the Calvin Kleins and the Ralph Laurens and of course Acqua di Gio, but most of those are horribly overused, especially by middle or high schoolers. I'm not the most...
Creed's Royal English Leather, in my opinion.
Every woman I've ever met that's tried the feminine Opium has hated it. A couple men I've known have had Opium PH (I don't know EDP/EDT) and it seemed nice, but I've yet to give it a real try.
I actually really like the bottle. The black leather wrap and clear glass seems a nice combination to me, though the stainless steel engraving seems a little overboard.
Awfully expensive, though,...
Hard to say with the variance of batches with Creed's fragrances. 3 or 4's probably good for yours.
Bois Du Portugal.
It's definitely mature, but some people complain about it smelling too mature.
Perhaps for you it won't be a problem. Good luck!
Interesting venture by Ralph Lauren. Let's see how the fragrances turn out.
Unisex fragrances are a large part of the industry and there are good ones, but I agree with David: sometimes there just has to be a line between masculine and feminine, and in fragrances, it's...
It really just depends on your taste. These aren't like two near-identical but differently priced colognes, like say, Creed's GIT or Bond No. 9's Chez Bond (or even GIT vs. Davidoff's Cool Water)....
At first (last winter) I didn't think Angel Men was that good. I wore it in my home to myself a few times and thought it was simply average. Before I stowed it away in my "To Wear When I Don't Feel...
My advice to you is to go with the shower gel but avoid the spray. The sprays can be horrendous, sometimes better, but they're never good. They're either bad or not bad. The shower gel's fine - it's...
When you're heartbroken because you've left your home with no fragrance on.
(Not that any of us would ever do that unintentionally, :D)
Hi, I'm D.Sprad. I don't collect bottles, so I don't know too much about older ones, and I'm having a tough time identifying this fragrance.
I can't post pictures right now, but if in the future...
When I was about 4 years old, I remember my grandfather with a small bottle of Halston I-12. That's what I first smelled as far as cologne goes.
The first one I bought for myself was Calvin Klein...
It's in a bedroom, under a raised piece of furniture with a dark, cool space under it, away from light and harm. Fairly easy to get in and out, and it keeps my fragrances fine.
I just realized that I signed up on this fragrance forum more than five months ago and have still neglected to post an introduction! Good lord, folks! It seemed to just... slipped my mind.
1. Baie de Genievre
3. Orange Spice
Maybe try Fendi Uomo. It's an 80's powerhouse for sure. Its scent is pretty outdated, and it's definitely designer.
Don't be deterred by the fact that its page here says it's discontinued. It's...
Monogram. Started in 1985, completely cancelled and recalled by 1987, as the blue dye in the bottles were making consumers ill. I want to know what mine are worth, if you could assist me.
I bought a 1.7 bottle of Polo Explorer for the holidays. Quite fun.
