Sounds amazing. What sort of vetiver and oud are you using?
I'm wearing RG right now, so I'll go from that. I find it much smoother, without the in-your-face aromatic top notes of Azzaro. RG is a much simpler composition - a fairly straight up-and-down...
As long as Christian Audigier gets screwed over for what he did to the Ed Hardy brand.
I absolutely love Fumerie Turque, but hate Tuscan Leather. To me, FT is a wonderfully complex smoke, dry but with a hint of sweetness in it. TL I just got a huge hit of cigarette smoke - it reminded...
My fiancee (22y.o.) loves vetiver. In fact she was wearing some of my Grey Vetiver decant yesterday, and it smelled amazing on her, so much so that she says that her sister (24 y.o.) complimented her...
I could list plenty here, not because they're necessarily the best in their genre, but because they are classic examples thereof, so let's have a crack:
Azzaro pour Homme Azzaro - A...
YSL Rive Gauche pour Homme
Gucci pour Homme II (would probably have gone for Bulgari pour Homme, but it reacts really badly on me)
covers for office, casual,...
preface: I don't enjoy musky or patchouli-heavy scents, so I'm not going to recommend those
YSL M7 - sexy as hell oud fragrance, with an enticing (if perhaps slightly too powerful) top...
gupts has definitely been good to me, not only from selling on his scraps, but his advice has been useful, and often lines up with my perception.
And he's vego, so we have similar taste in food.
I get ApH to be much more brash and herbaceous from the get-go, compared to the classic floral notes of RG. I think Rive Gauche is much more sedate and gentlemanly than the macho, hairy-chested...
Oud and Bergamot - oh my, oh my, oh my. I sure am hoping my local JM store gets this in.
I've got a few that have really done it for me lately:
from those I own: YSL M7 and Lutens Fumerie Turque
from testing: Hermes Concentree d'Orange Verte and AdP Colonia
I specifically avoid Dove products as they are particularly notorious for animal testing.
I just use a lightly scented soap and an unscented deodorant.
So AdG is good because 95% of the non-Basenotes population loves it, but something can be good regardless of how many people like it?
Way to contradict yourself.
from memory, after having it thrust upon me in a department store - Idole d'Armani initially reminded me a lot of Lynx Africa.
Electric guitars (and pedals) and fragrances indeed!
For me, the difference is that I already have a really great guitar (a 72 Telecaster Deluxe - reissue) and that can make me money and allow me to...
Has anyone got thoughts on the Artek standard (other than Supperman)?
to the OP
I have tried 2, 2 man and White, and I do think 2 man would be a good starting point.
I've had M7 last >24 hrs, albeit veeeery faintly by the next day, but definitely still there.
DocMan - good idea. The thought of doing multiple scents for the different settings never occurred.
to everyone else - thanks so far.
will find that link...
talkingmuffin: yeah, thanks
So in December, in the middle of the Australian summer, I'll be getting married and need some advice from the noses at BN as to what I should wear.
To set it up a bit, the ceremony will be in the...
I really enjoy the smell of the Bulgari pH line, but they smell absolutely terrible on me.
It's all pepper and cardamom, and everything else just gets drowned out in the smell of an Asian take-away...
I'm a compulsive sample-before-I-buy person, so my 'to sample' list is much larger than my 'to buy':
Jo Malone: Vetyver and Black Vetyver Cafe
Etat Libre d'Orange:...
Could it just be familiarity? What basenoters perceive as synthetic notes (and thus cheaper and inferior) in the Cool Water may be normal to the average Joe, so the Creed is unfamiliar and thus...
Some great suggestions here. I'd also try Givenchy Gentleman, Monsieur Givenchy or Guerlain's Heritage.
All very distinguished gentlemanly scents for formal events.
Well I'm not quite at that stage, but not far off. Actually I just wish I had vintage Tabarome.
But I'm a mid-20's guy with stretched ears whose usual attire is jeans and band t-shirts, but I...
Consider this a follow-up to the thread about perfumes for different ages:
In that thread, many people claimed that age is not...
Great read, thanks for the article.
Definitely need to try out the vetiver from the sounds of it.
I don't really think anything of it revealing ethnicity, but do get the links to other places.
When my fiancee first smelled Fumurie Turque, she exclaimed that it smelled like the markets in Saudi...
It can take me a few wearings with some fragrances.
I've done a complete 360 on Guerlain's vetiver. I loved it first time I tried it on a sample card. Liked it on, but after a couple of wearings,...
I have the same problem with Myer in Australia. The SAs are all pushing the newest fragrance from their line. It felt good telling the Boss and D&G girl that I hated all of their fragrances I've...
My priorities are:
1. Scent - this is obviously the important one. I'd gladly take an amazing scent that lasts 4 hours over a mediocre scent that lasts 12.
2. Longevity - can be a deal breaker...
My local department store who stocks YSL informed me of the same thing a few days ago when I went looking for M7 - this is in Australia, so it's not limited to American stockists apparently.
I'm very #1. A guitarist in a prog/post- rock band and a hardcore band.
I'm also NOT everything else, being anti-hunting (vegan), hate most sports and I'm a research student, so absolutely not a...
Going with overly sweet vanilla or calone.
2 go-to notes for the designer scents now-days.
And how is oudh 'everywhere' nowdays? I can never find any decent ouds other than in niche frags.
Usually one to the crook of the elbows (one spray spread onto both arms) a couple to the chest (depending on the scent)
Don't breathe either, I've seen WOMEN do that. Avoid it at all costs.
Didn't just buy it, but have only just received one of the last 2 bottles of Fumurie Turque in Australia. Hells yeah.
Polo Double Black?
It's clearly bivvel-gary. I particularly enjoy the fragrance Bee elL Vee
at least according to some of the idiots I've heard shopping in department stores.
Srsly though, BULL-garee.
To be honest, I didn't think Bulgari pour Homme was that elegant, although presumably that was just it reacting with my skin, given the amount of love it gets here.
I would have thought either of...
I perhaps should add I've tried the AdP Colonias and the Assoluta smells terrible on me, and the Intensa starts off nicely but just becomes nothing but soapy after about half an hour. Stupid skin...
Hi all, I'm a 24 year-old post-grad just embarking on my cologne experience.
However, I really hate the emasculated aquatics and florals and many of the other fresh scents which abound these...
Uh, yeah, thanks.
So what fragrance would you recommend again?
Versace pour Homme is my AdG substitute. It's still light and summery, but more oriental and less generically aquatic.
I'm attempting to find a scent for my gf's birthday, but she (like me) is a fussy perfume-wearer.
I need something not overly floral, and she hates rose scent.
What I'm after is...
Glad I found this thread - being vegan and new to the world of fragrances. Unfortunately leather is one of my favourite scent notes, so I'm incredibly conflicted. Makes me reluctant to wear Polo or...
