Geranium Pour Monsieur
L'Air du desert Marocain
Malle and CDG. I realize CDG is more of a designer but their fragrances, and the choices they make in their line, definitely seem more in line with a niche house.
Geranium Pour Monsieur
I own and love Geranium Pour Monsieur, Bois D'Orage, and Vetiver Extraordinaire. I find the longevity to be pretty good on VE.
I also love Portrait of a Lady, which I bought for my girlfriend but...
3 each from Malle and CDG in my modest collection
One of my favorites lines. Avignon is my first choice, 2 Man is right behind and more versatile.
Also, Wonderwood, Vettiveru, CDG 2, the EDP from '94, Kyoto, the 2013 Black, Hinoki, and Sugi.
I really enjoy it. I think it performs fairly well despite it's reputation. It is a bit close to the skin, so I find it perfect for business meetings and the like.
Best may have been a bit hyperbolic; I should have said among the best. At least in my opinion.
I agree that Malle's customer service is excellent. I also think that their fragrances are often the best use of a particular ingredient you will find. For example Vetiver Extraordinaire, Carnal...
Seconding these and LDDM
So, I think I'd like to pare my collection down a bit. (I'd keep small decants of the bottles I sell.) Anyway, I was having trouble deciding which bottles to get rid of so I started to rate...
Is this just to see how we'd spend the 1K or are you actually asking for advice on how to spend your 1K to start your collection? If the latter, I'd second the recommendations for sampling as much as...
I think Sel de Vetiver and Roja Dove are good choices. I love the Turtle Vetiver Back, Sycomore, and Private Label suggestions, but I don't think they're bright and refreshing at all.
This is a good list. I might substitute Avignon for Zagorsk. Jubilation XXV is nice if you want something brighter.
Excellent reviews above. You guys are making it tough not to want a bottle of Fetish.
My girlfriend, who is 31, really likes it on me. I'm 36 to give you context. If anything, I'm an undersprayer though -- 2 or 3 sprays max.
Encre Noire or Gucci Pour Homme II
Geranium Pour Monsieur
I think IB is the best of it's kind that's still in production. Sartorial and 1725 are nice too.
Seconding Lubin Itasca
Also CDG 2 Man
I find incense very relaxing, so I wear Avignon a lot at home. Maybe your Zagorsk will help you?
While primarily a vetiver, Grey Vetiver EDP has a nice citrus note and lasts a while on most people.
I just got a bottle of this. Really fantastic stuff.
Vintage Bel Ami
Vetiver Extraordinaire or Sycomore
I love all formulations of Bel Ami and think Bel Ami Vetiver is very good too. I don't find it that challenging, which seems to be a citrusy leather to me in the modern formulation. And even if you...
Carnal Flower -- I really dislike Tuberose, but it seems well made and long lasting
Geranium Pour Monsieur -- I think this is brilliant. Always brings a smile to my face. Much more than a mint scent...
I also find many scents to be too sweet. You mentioned mostly designers, so somewhat reasonably priced options include Or Black, Fahrenheit, Lampblack, TDH, Grey Vetiver, Givenchy Vetyver, GPH II (or...
They really are great. Massiel is also amazing, very professional and affable.
Another good one. Tom Ford Extreme too, particularly because you can probably just pop into Sephora for a sample.
Probably Ropion or Jean-Louis Sieuzac. Duchafour (sp?) and Polge not far behind.
Invasion Barbare and Rive Gauche are both good. Maybe Azzaro PH. As for leathers, how about current Bel Ami? Any version of Eau Sauvage might be good too.
I've only really found two good deals. A 50ml of vintage Bel Ami, with shaving cream and deodorant for around $100.
I also found a great deal on vintage Or Black. A 5ml mini was going for...
I think they're both good but prefer Tuscan Leather. I find the latest formulation of MR to be more gourmand than animalic, so I think it will appeal to different types of people than TL. Just my...
Yes, it's mostly from figuring out reviewers who enjoy similar types of fragrances such as alfarom, colin maillard, remik, rynegne, and others who I'm forgetting. Thanks guys!
I have 3 bottles of Gucci Pour Homme (probably only adds up to about 130ml though)
And 2 bottles of:
Vintage Bel Ami
and Or black (one vintage and another from a few years...
Bel Ami vintage
Gucci Pour Homme I
I'm interested too. Thanks for posting this.
I wouldn't say it's a must have, but I like it very much (as does my girlfriend). Plus, as mentioned above, you'll definitely be able to sell it back for very close to what you paid for it.
I don't have a large wardrobe but I definitely ended up unintentionally focusing on incense, vetiver, and leather.
Some would say Bel Ami is too similar to Puredistance M, or CDG 2 Man is close...
These are all excellent recommendations. Bel Ami and Or Black are about as good as it gets in mu opinion. I rate Puredistance M a bit more than pluran, but I agree with the other suggestions. Patou...
Oh, I'd go with the 3 vetivers. Vetiver Extraordinaire is my favorite summer scent and Sel de Vetiver is great too. Haven't tried the Heeley.
How about Jubilation XXV?
I'm looking forward to the new Ropion/Malle fragrance coming out this spring (the name escapes me)
Puredistance M and vintage Bel Ami are two of my absolute favorites, and I love castoreum sometimes (like in vintage Antaeus), so my wallet is telling me to pretend I never read this thread.
Dark Aoud is my favorite. Aoud Musk, Full Incense, and Red Vetyver are all very good too.
Portrait of a Lady and Puredistance M
It's such a good one. Really well made but also easy to wear and perfect for any occasion/season
Realizing now that many of my favorite warm weather fragrances are designer. Sticking with niche
Turtle Vetiver Back
Geranium Pour Monsieur...
Looking for a pre-reformulation version of Knize Ten, any size
Sale or Swap. If swap, my sale page is here:...
I think these are good choices. Antaeus and Bel Ami would be good too. Derby would also fit the bill but may be a bit too expensive.
I've placed a bunch of orders with both Essenza and FIF. Yes, it takes a while, but their prices and samples more than make up for it. They give quite a few samples, usually in a 2ml spray
Agreed. Also Cacio's suggestions are good too. Vetiver Extraordinaire being my favorite. I also love Invasion Barbare in the summer, but go light on the trigger.
Leather: Puredistance M or Bel Ami.
Oud - M7
Incense - Jubilation XXV if you like a warmer incense, or, if you want something more austere, Avignon is well priced
Tobacco - Not my favorite note....
I finally sampled this last night. Excellent. I agree with Colin Maillard's description of Geranium PM mixed with Bois D'Ascese. Not quite sure if it is full bottle worthy yet, as it does remind me...
Itasca is my choice.
The first of my orders was on Jan 19. Oddly, that one is still in transit. I received the one I ordered on Jan 23 first.
Got the first of my packages and the others are scanned in by USPS. I'm on the east coast, so hopefully all of you will start getting yours soon.
This is good advice -- Vetiver Extraordinaire is excellent. If you want something a bit more affordable, perhaps Givenchy Vetyver
Geranium Pour Monsieur
Jovoy Private Label
Portrait of a Lady
Not far behind at all:
All prices include shipping. Accepting personal payment through paypal, US only please. All items stored away from light and heat, in original boxes, unless otherwise indicated. I am happy to provide...
Agree with Norma Kamali and GPH. Also Blackbird, Bois d'Ascese and Bois D'Encens
CDG Wonderwood, perhaps
I didn't try it until 2014. For what it's worth, I find the current version to not be very oakmossy. I really enjoy the current version though.
Ordered my first of three shipments on 1/19. Nothing yet but I'm optimistic it will get sorted eventually.
Lubin Itasca is my favorite use of pine
If you're looking for quality and compliments from females (which is completely understandable), I'd stick to something like Dior Vetiver, Bel Ami Vetiver, Jubilation XXV, Tuscan Leather, or Xerjoff...
Very, very helpful, thanks, Remik!
These are all good suggestions, but I'd sample all of them instead of collecting. I think it's important to sample Derby and DHI for example, but maybe you don't like mossy notes or iris, so why have...
Vetiver, Leather, and Incense
It looks like Essenza insures their stuff too: http://essenza-nobile.de/shipping-costs.html?cSEOid=4a4fae4990ceffcc39e9aae8f9f2f038
In relevant part: "In case of shipping outside the states of the...
I think that it would be 1981 Antaeus. I also have a Patou Pour Homme mini that I think is from the early 80s.
I think your best bets for a crowd pleaser are any of the Bel Amis (Vetiver, vintage, modern) and Tuscan Leather. Puredistance M is excellent but has a cumin note that some people don't like.
Anyone heard of this site?
They have some CDG, Montale, Different Company, and some other pretty good fragrances. Was thinking of picking up Sel de Vetiver but I'm on a self-imposed spending...
The suggestions for Givenchy, Sycomore, and Vetiver Extraordinaire are very good. Lubin Itasca, Dior Vetiver, and Sel de Vetiver are good options too. Most of these are a bit pricey, but the Givenchy...
All valid points. It is expensive, but try Essenza or someone to take advantage of the Euro
All good choices, but Vetiver Extraordinaire is my favorite by some distance
Vintage Bel Ami is one of my favorites. Bel Ami Vetiver was a good suggestion. You might also try something like Cuiron, while not similar to Bel Ami, it's a softer leather that your wife might like.
Another for Black Tourmaline. Also Bois D'Ascese
A very good line, in my opinion. Vetiver Extraordinaire, French Lover, Musc Ravageur, Geranium PM, and Portrait of a Lady are all excellent. Have to try Une Fleur de Cassie
I'm in NY so it's typically been about 10-12 days. Not ideal but worth the wait, especially given how large their samples are. First in Fragrance is very good in that regard too.
Of course not! I got a 100ml Portrait of a Lady for my girlfriend because it's my favorite on her. I got myself a bunch of 50ml bottles: French Lover, a backup bottle of Vetiver Extraordinaire,...
The Malle fragrances are a great deal right now. I couldn't help myself.
Good idea for a thread.
Vetiver: Sycomore, Vetiver Extraordinaire, Turtle Vetiver Back
Leather: Bel Ami, Or Black, Puredistance M
Incense (I have a hard time differentiating notes here):...
While by no means a replacement, Papillon Anubis uses smoke, incense, rose, and leather to create a fragrance that gives a similar feel.
Agree with Chergui and TV
Wow, that would last me a lifetime. Hell, I only have 5ml and I can't see myself finishing it in a decade. That stuff is seriously potent.
These plus Puredistance M and Blackbird come to mind
Agree. I think this was inspired by Bond.
I've never done a side by side comparison but I think the older formulation (the old cap with the engraving) is a little more oakmossy, so probably has more stamina. However, I don't have any problem...
I didn't expect to like it as much as I did
Geranium pour Monsieur? Though staying power isn't great on some people.
