I'm a bad boy! haha
Heat wakes this bad boy up and not only makes it obviously project better and last longer, but it makes it smell more much complex and BETTER. But don't overdo it.
I've had Mustang and still have Havana. But I don't see any similarities. Mustang smells like Michael Kors though.
And I haven't tried anything that smells like Havana, except for Ogallala Bay...
Thankfully they brought it back!
+ 1 Quartz Pour Homme
I'll add my favorite, Aqua Quorum. I'll say Quartz is just as good though, but a tad bit more $ so AQ wins.
+ 1 Havana
+1 Vintage Z-14
Cool Water: "eeeeaaaaaaannnnggg" (the sound the buzzer of your dryer makes.... letting you know the clothes are done).
Halston Z-14, if you can find a bottle of the last formula before EA fragrances ruined it.
I don't think either are sweet.
If you really want the job, don't wear anything to the interview. Too much of a risk. Once you get the job, Boss Number One is the definition of "professional" smelling without resorting to the...
I've owned both but since these types of colognes no longer appealed to me, I got rid of them. However, both smell good. If I were you I would purchase 360 Red and here's why.......
I'm probably in the minority when I say enjoy a boring fragrance. Those are the ones that typically I use the most often as I don't get tired of them easily.
I am a broken record, but Aqua Quorum fits the bill. In the same arena as Horizon.
I used to like Lagerfeld. It smelled like like baby powder on the dry-down, but very mature/old school smelling if you can believe it. I don't know if the stuff they sell nowadays smells like the...
Good to see more fans of this one for warm weather. It's simple but so well made. Probably the most inoffensive scent I've ever come across. Love that rosewood drydown.
Other options to consider
- 360 Red (3.4oz is around $25)
- Aqua Quorum (3.4oz is around $15)
- Chrome (3.4oz around $35)
- Tommy Hilfiger (3.4oz around $45)
- Versace Eau Fraiche (3.4oz...
Yes, don't risk it this your last purchase for a while. Go with the sure thing.
Oh, I've never heard of it. But it isn't surprising they smell identical, both are made by Puig.
So glad you like the Aqua Quorum. I wasn't sure you would this time of year because (like many summer scents) Aqua Quorum will feel a bit "flat" when worn in the dry air of winter.
If I wanted "old school", I should have went with the original OMS as it was a product of the 80's.
How about the original OMS, is it sweet too?
The verdict is in. It's just too sweet for my
liking, but it is definitely a quality scent. I wish I wasn't so picky.
I'm all for getting a "caps wanted/for sale/trade" thread.
It seems like most Bogart fragrances are limited edition (aside from OMS and Pour Homme, as you can easily find them). Is this true?
Tommy, by Tommy Hilfiger.
Same guy that helped craft: CK One, Mugler Cologne, Versace pour homme ,212 Men, Pi, M7 and a whole host of other big sellers.
Discontinued but still a lot of stock left out there in stores and online.
If your considering Z-14, check out the thread I started.
Thank you all for responding.
Well, even before the last two comments, I decided I had to blind buy it. Picked it up on online today. I am very excited. I like powerful! Will report back...
This looks to be a throwback to the powerhouse fragrances of the 80's.
My questions are....
1) what are the main notes you detect, the ones that hang around the longest?
2) is there a...
I am glad I'm not the only one who sees this as a good scent for moderate to warm weather. As much as I love it, in the winter it does come across as kind of "thin" and acidic. Like a lot of the...
What is the type of leather called that is in the drydown of Z-14? It's kind of dirty and animalic, in a good way of course.
^ I don't know what birch tar smells like. I wish I could help.
Off that topic, I am currently wearing Havana together with Ogallala Bay Rum "Special Reserve". They go amazing together. The...
Definitely sample first, or get a mini bottle.
Like others have said, you have to enjoy spice to like Havana. It is a very bright assertive scent, has almost an "electrically-charged acidic" feel to it. I wear it year round and believe it even...
Did I hurt your feelings?
double post, oops
Yes, and the Pour Homme was only available as of late as an oil.
I really appreciate your effort and thoughtfulness. But I'm going to pass on your offer. I'm just really tired falling in love with discontinued fragrances.
Yeah, I can't wear this stuff. Unfortunately, most fragrances either make me sneeze or nauseate me. This one falls into the latter arena, even though I enjoy the smell. I am just too sensitive to...
Well, so much for Kiehls essential oils. I just got off the phone with them. All they have left (and in short supply) is the musk oil. All their essential oils have been discontinued and the...
Are you advising me or yourself?
Sounds like this is a real sleeper for those that like macho-old school scents. I never see the fragrance get any mention on here until now.
However, I have a few more questions.
1) Is the...
Kiehl's Pour Homme Essence Oil was recommended to me by Grottola, since he knows I'm a big Z-14 fan. However, it only has 6 reviews (all are positive though). Anyhow, I'm curious who else has tried...
I have it, not sure if I like it well enough to keep it. Trying to get rid of it.
+ 1 for Havana, but what else do you expect (see my avatar)
Whoever concocted my sacred Havana. Anyone know who that person is?
273 Rodeo Drive, by Fred Hayman
Wow, that's generosity.
Technically, I don't know think it qualifies as "niche", but the quality of the ingredients in this stuff as good as anything out there (IMO). If you want tobacco, cinnamon and other spices, Havana...
On the back of the package/box of Z-14, does it list "oakmoss" as one of the ingredients? Just curious because there is a new reformulated version of Z-14 out there but there is also some old stock...
I just remembered, I used to have a sample of 273 by Fred Hayman and liked it a lot (back in the early 90's). I wonder if it is still the same. I remember it being powerful, kind of had that CK...
I never tried the female version. The Pour Homme is a very basic light 90's type scent. Kind of similar to Boss # 1, but more casual. It's good, nothing exciting though. But it also cannot...
I have the newest version in the tall clear bottle. I don't love it, so I don't wear it. Then I tried the ribbed bottle version and liked it much better. I think it boils down to the fact that I...
Rocky Mountain Wood by Dsquared
Aqua Quorum to me is "tonic water" type of refreshing.
For the record, get some Havana or Z-14 and bask in manliness.
I agree with "wear what you like", but to me and many others, some fragrances just smell feminine, some masculine, some unisex or neutral. To me, feminine smells are super sweet, heavy on the...
Pick up Havana by Aramis and/or Z-14 (pre-reformulation) and you will smell plenty manly.
If you're considering La Nuit, give 360 Black by Perry Ellis a try. It is 1/3 the price and smells dressed up, dark and inviting. Major compliment getter that I've had women bury their noses into...
Hair is a good suggestion.
Dsquared, Rocky Mountain Wood (noticeable florals, with some spices and wood).
From your wardrobe, I picked the most inoffensive, safe and least sexy fragrances. Seriously, you really risk the chance of coming across as "trying too hard to impress" if you wear anything thick...
+ 1 Tommy Bahama (enjoyable)
+ 1 Bang (sneezing fit inducer)
+4 on Aramis Havana
I'll also add Tommy Bahama Original to the list.
When fragrance gets on my clothing, it is ALWAYS the top notes that stick out and remain on it for days or longer.
I enjoyed reading your review and response. You're very welcome, I'm happy to help others bask in the glory of the fragrances I also dig. So glad you got to experience the previous formulation of...
I got a healthy dose of florals from Rocky Mountain Wood. I don't care for florals at all, so I didn't care for it at all. The pepper was irritating to me too. Wished there was more wood. It is a...
This hits all your points. It has a very slight bay-rum vibe in the beginning, but not in the "oh who's been drinking" sense. In...
I disagree partly. I believe that may be true with teenage girls and women say below the age of 25. And yes, women don't want you to smell like their father. However, I believe women love a man to...
I love it when my all time favorite gets mentioned a lot. Havana is sooo good.
Ogallala Bay Rum Cologne
In case anyone is curious, here's what I wrote to the consumer affairs representative:
I am very disappointed that EA recently reformulated Halston Z-14. It doesn't make sense...
I've had enough of reformulations. I've spoken up about it by writing an email to Elizabeth Arden Co. I voiced all of our concerns and distaste for the current Z-14 and did my best to my make case...
Perry Ellis 360 Black has a tamarind note in it that some may perceive as tart and berry-like. I wonder if Black XS has it as well. But it is so much more than that, a dark thick ambery sweetness...
I smelled my humidor today, which is stuffed with premium smokes. If a perfumer could bottle that smell I'd pay a fortune for it, but it's just not possible. Either way, can't wait till the weather...
The most recent Guerlain Vetiver formulation does not have the tobacco.
90% certain the answer is yes. But to be sure, just ask a seller if the ingredients on the box lists "oakmoss". If they say it does, you're in luck. I sent you a PM.
You don't have the most recent formulation that is on the shelves these days. You might have gotten lucky and bought some old stock. The reformulation happened recently. The Z-14 from even a...
I'm highly confident you'll enjoy it. In my opinion (and many others) it is one of the best masculines ever made. Here's one of the only youtube reviews on it, from the female perspective.
Kerosene, that is awesome that you started creating your own. I might have to give them a shot.
By the way, your review on Havana by Aramis convinced me to try it, and now it is my favorite...
I've never smelled Issey, but Voyage smells like linen/dryer sheets. If you like that smell, you'll like voyage. I know I say it all the time, but Aqua Quorum is in my opinion, the best light...
Yea, you have the new garbage. I agree, it is rediculous what they do. It seems like the only industry that does this is the perfume industry.
Anyway, I sent you a PM
You should really...
You surely have the good version. It was only recently that they destroyed Z-14, say within the past year or two. If you know what to look for, you can find older stock (the good stuff) on ebay or...
Another easy way to tell which one you have.....the good version has prominent citrus opening, like a lemon gumdrop or lemon hard candy.
The new version is just rough and irritating in the...
- Azzaro Pour Homme
- Caron Pour Homme
- Azzaro Chrome
- Bleu De Chanel
- Halston Z-14
- Aramis Havana
- Drakkar Noir
Havana is not dense in the heat (like an amber/vanilla type can get). However, it is very spicy so you don't want to spray too much. Havana does smell even better with heat, it comes alive. ...
When EA took over Z-14 they may or may not have toned down the potency of the juice a little, yet it smelled like the same product. But recently they completely changed the ingredients (not just...
Oh, one more......
Ogallala Bay Rum Cologne
Yes, if sprayed lightly
+ long lasting with just the right amount of projection
+ non-synthetic/chemical smelling (and does not contain "calone")
+ crisp/cool feeling
+ extremely affordable ($15 for a big...
Something inoffensive and conservative, office wear-like.
"The Cologneist" is also right that this scent contains a small amount of the ingredient "calone", which I normally hate. He has a finely tuned nose to be able to pick up...
