That's a great start you have, and GIT would make a great next addition.
Oh, and well done for doing your 'sniffathon' before committing to buying.
Yellow Acqua di Parma to match his yellow jerseys...
Mmm... Interesting collection you have there...
Can I have first dibs next time you have a clear out?
(Oh, and I'll even forgive the fact that you are from the wrong side o' t' hill)
All three are lovely. I have owned them all, and still own two (the other is on my shopping list!).
If I was forced to choose, I think I would go with the Chanel.
Just what I was about to write until I saw you beat me to it.
If you like Aventus, then Plum Japonais is probably the first Tom Ford you should try. It is truly lovely.
I tried it in passing last weekend (was out clothes shopping with Mrs JTB, so not much 'sniffing' time available).
It has a fairly 'big' grapefruit top, then dries down as a slightly more subtle...
Apparently it's Eau Sauvage...
In the Daily Telegraph, one of the UK's 'quality'...
No. Although neither are exactly shy.
I have both, and probably wear the Antaeus 10x more often than the Kouros.
And this, Gentlemen, is why you should never send a boy to do a Man's job... :rolleyesold:
As the Ladies have said, It's all about Masculine Confidence.
Carry on smelling nice....

Sorry to hear you are struggling again Matt.
Wishing you all the best.
I learned to dance in my 40's...
Joined Basenotes a few years later...
Have recently taken up weight lifting, and am now stronger than I have ever been in my life.
So you have given a youngster one of the two best 'crowd pleasers' on the planet.
Do you understand the magnitude of Good that you have given?

Never A Good Idea!
Any 'straight' Vetiver, or Citrus Vetiver will happily do the job...
I see what you just did there
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille.
It's the work of the Devil.
Happy to support a UK based splitter. I'll take position 4, please.
Spray a mist of Leather Oud, then walk through the mist a couple of times.
Not worthy of the Acqua di Parma name.
The big factor is that that your son is likely to have a great future in front of him. Which makes him attractive. Which bodes well for the continuation of your genes....
Be proud and happy...
Sounds like roadworks to me.
Maybe it's my age...
I am a user rather than a collector.
My wardrobe seems to hover somewhere between 2 and 3 dozen. Once I hit the 3 dozen mark I find there at 6 to 8 I can 'eBay' without further thought. I haven'y...
Layer Dior Farenheit with Tom Ford Tuscan Leather.
As has already been said, Aventus or La Nuit, and definitely NOT Kouros.
Leave the colour as it is and enjoy the gravitas it gives you.
Think Alpha silverback Gorilla!
As has been said elsewhere, pay attention to styling (I'm thinning as well, so I've gone...
A basic Strength Training programme.
If you're in the UK...
Keep an eye on Kron's splits. I've had a bunch of TF stuff from him, and I'm very happy.
See here -
I had 2 bottles of vintage M7 which I sold once I got a bottle of Oud Absolu.
My reason is that the big cherry opening and long wait for the dry down are far too high a price...
TV is the work of Satan.
I see Leather Oud as the Big Brother to Antaeus...
...in the same way that I see Bois de Portugal as the Big Brother to Penhaligon's Douro Eau de Portugal.
But then, maybe it's just me......
I own both.
Think I'll go away and try layering them...
Ah. Got it.
You have issues with your own masculinity. Bless.
The same thing that's wrong with a youngster smelling like tar and chocolate!
Cool Water is what you want.
I don't think it's a safe blind buy.
I have owned both this and Farenheit Absolute in the past.
I used up my bottle of NR, and will buy another one in the fullness of time.
I have just sold...
Add that story to the 'sticky' thread at the top of the page!
YSL M7 Oud Absolu
Aventus. Of course.
That's the one I was thinking of, given the OP's liking for 'vanilla'.
If you don't like vetiver, I think the trick is to avoid vetiver based frags! :rolleyesold:
Pineapple is the fruit you want.
For DLO it's a No Brainer. Just Do It!
Roadster if it's all/ predominanantly male.
Aventus if it's 'mixed'!
I've just got me some Sycamore!
Tom Ford - Oud Wood
I use the 'devil take the hindmost' approach.
When I realise I haven't used a frag for a while I put it to one side. Over a period of time I will find I have put 6 - 12 aside. Over the couse of a...
I went with New West.
TdH would have been my second choice, had the option existed.
Hello and welcome.
The usual mantra here is go out into the stores, sniff a lot, and find out for yourself what you like. Everybody's taste is differenent. Have a read through some of the...
Penhaligon's Duro Eau De Portugal
I have both this and BdP
I consider DEdP to be BdP's 'kid brother'.
This is the one you want!
I have an interview this afternoon, so it has to be - Tom Ford Grey Vetiver.
He'll think he's been barfed on by a 6 year old who's just been to a kiddies' party.
Except that the TDH Pure Parum is deeper & darker than the EdT.
If your are in the UK, your best bet is to join one of Kron's splits. He seems to have an Avenus on the go more or less all the time, and sometimes he has two.
I once dropped a nearly full tester bottle of Aramis 900 in a Department Store.
Didn't cost me anything, but the public embarassment was plenty
It's a fab frag. I have the Pure Parfam in my wardrobe, rather than the EdT.
Try both, but make sure you buy at least one of them!
Dior Leather Oud
Feeling 'a bit of a beast' today
That's exactly what I would recommend.
Both are fantastic 'crowd pleasers'.
This one takes me back.
CDG 2 Man was the first one I bought on the strength of having a sniff around our local fragrance shop soon after I joined BN.
2 Man is definitely the more masuline of...
Interesting that you mention (a) Cartier Declaration (flanker) and Italian Cypress in the same post...
Cartier Declaration was our 'romantic scent' until Mrs JTB got a whiff of Italian Cypress....
Don't forget you can also boost you budget by reclassifying some of your 8/10 as 7/10 and selling them!
I have just been doing a clear out of my wardrobe, to put stuff on eBay.
Mrs JTB was sat beside me as I had a final sniff of a few bottles set aside for 'the cull' while putting my...
I was unsure when I first tried it (it was my first vetiver), but having sampled others (and added a couple to my wardrobe), I find I use it regularly when I'm in the mood for a vetiver.
La Nuit is alaways a good place to start. It is an easy wearing 'Crowd Pleaser'. The EdP is less 'shouty' than the EdT.
Creeds are listed Millesime strength which, they tell us, is equivalent to EdP.
According to the listing on cheapsmells.com, D&G The One is EdT.
Exactly! I tend to either buy blind(ish) on eBay or buy into one of Kron's World Famous Splits.
Probably about 75% of what I get from eBay goes back on there. The thing is, by the time...
Fresh, inoffensive daytime wear. Pick one up cheap on eBay.
Now that is Seriously Naughty!
You need to replace your Oud Absolu!
That just makes you smell like you pump gas for a living...
Tuscan Leather is for Grown Ups.
Tobacco Vanille is The Work of Satan.
This is one of his all time faves
Same advice as if the question was 'what would I wear for an [insert scenario here] date?'
The answer is whatever will make you feel most confident.
Interviewers will 'smell' your confidence...
Nailed it absolutely
Not only don't I 'get' Tobacco Vanille, I don't 'get' Neroli Portofino either.
You've made a start. now you just need to do 'that batch number thing'! :lolk:
Of those I've tried, it was a close run thing between Italian Cypress (Mrs JTB's favourite 'date scent'), Oud Wood, and Tuscan Leather.
I finally went for Oud Wood 'just because'
Buy La Nuit.
A*men is the work of Satan.
Since I bought Oud Wood (Thanks, Kron!) I never wear M7.
For me, that over sweet cherry opening of M7 is an irritation that has to be 'lived through'.
Now I have both, my M7 has...
Get your own back on him.
Make Bois de Portugal your signature scent!
I have sampled the Creed and own the Tom Ford.
If I had both I would wear the Creed for office/ daytime and the Tom Ford for evening/ nights out.
Off the tiop of my head I can't think of any...
Update - Kron has both GIT and Aventus available now.
Go raid your PayPal account. You know you want to :D
That one is easy.
Kron is in the UK and he always has splits running, so you won't have to wait long for him to offer these again.
Here are his current offerings -
No, but I'm wearing Tuscan Leather this Autumn! :D
M7 was one of my first acquisitions after joining BN. I had a hard time 'living with' the overly sweet opening blast. In my opinion Oud Absolute is much 'better' since you don't have...
It's just like a Woman.
Don't try to understand her...
Just love her...
It way my wife's favourite 'romantic scent' for quite some time, until she smelled Tom Ford's Italian Cypress...
It does seem to be a fairly hefty complement getter, and appears not to be restricted to particular age groups.
Very much a 'safe bet' in this respect, and doesn't seem to be actively disliked...
Anything containing one or more of Aoud, Leather, or Patchouli tends to 'feel' dark to me.
Too late to vote.
But, FWIW, Aventus.
Antaeus. For the first time in months...
Rse! How did I miss that?
Now available online at John Lewis -
Kron, mate. Somebody did ask earlier in the thread about a split...
Was in John Lewis in Cambridge, mooching around, as you do, and saw Tom Ford Neroli Portofino.
Having never sampled that one before, nor seen it in any deparment store, I picked up the tester...
For us (26 years married) it was, for a number of years, Declaration by Cartier...
Then she got a whiff of Italian Cypress by Tom Ford...
Hang on guys...
Pheromones are scientifically proven to work 100% of the time...
With fruit flys :rolleyesold:
