  1. Re: The Top Ten Male Designer Fragrances Every Beginner Should Sample

Once again, a wonderfully comprehensive (and wittily informal) article by Claire! These are so great and helpful, and I'm betting that female readers would love to know which 5 of these designer...

Oh, and the post three posts up from this one that includes a photo, is the new/reformulated version with the vertical lettering.

    Re: Another reformulation

Just reviving this thread to say that yes, indeed, this amazing scent has been reformulated, and not for the better. I have a bottle of both old and new, and the new is missing its lower register....

    Re: Profumum Roma - Experiences?

Profumum's Ambra Aurea is the most incredible amber/ambergris scent I've smelled. Strong, resinous, and deep. (And a surefire compliment-getter, as well.)
  5. Re: What's the most you've ever spent on a single bottle?

I bought a 1940s bottle of Chanel Cuir de Russie for a little over $500. It was still sealed and smelled incredible. (Not 500 dollars worth of incredible, though. I later sold it.)

Thank you SO MUCH, cacio! What a comprehensive and detailed answer!

I think I can find an (almost) affordable bottle of the vintage version of Gold Woman online, and thanks to your description, I...

    Amouage Gold Query

I know, I know, I'm about a hundred years late to the Amouage party! Regardless, I got a sample set today and much to my shock (and perhaps horror!), I am finding Gold Woman pretty damn wonderful.

    L'air de Rien OLDER version

I am desperately seeking any amount of Miller Harris' pre-reformulation L'air de Rien.

Thanks so much for help with this purchase!!
  11. Re: Similarities between Fetish Pour Homme and Mona di Orio's Cuir?

    mesaboogie,

I had no idea that M and Fetish were quite so close! Hmmm, maybe this means I don't really need to sample Fetish, since I'm very familiar with M?
  12. Re: Similarities between Fetish Pour Homme and Mona di Orio's Cuir?

    drseid,

Is it the Cuir's smoke factor that is missing from Fetish? I was thinking their leather and castoreum notes would put them in the same sort of fragrance camp.
  13. Similarities between Fetish Pour Homme and Mona di Orio's Cuir?

Have been wearing and loving Mona's smokey-leather-castoreum bomb of late, and read somewhere on here that Roja Dove's Fetish Pour Homme might be similar.

Anyone out there who has tried/worn both...

Re: Help with L'air de Rien

Aphexacid, it smells, to me, as if it is now missing some of its base notes--that strange "dirty hair," musky, oak-mossiness it used to project.

Here is fellow-BN reviewer, David Ruskin, who say...

    Help with L'air de Rien

Ack! I have fallen (thanks to an OLD sample) with the pre-reformulated version of L'air de Rien. I tried the new version and to me it is missing all the really great, funky aspects of the original.

Re: Papillon's Salome vs MFK's AplS

Oh, and La Flaneuse, Musc Tonkin is the only animalic (besides Untitled #8) that is the wee-est bit too much for me. I wish I could love it because it is SUCH a musky wonder, but somehow I just...

Re: Papillon's Salome vs MFK's AplS

Apls seems to be the surprising winner here. I was assuming that since Salome was listed as so many Basenoters' favorite of 2015 that it would be the scent most would vote for, so this is really...
