Helps with burnout, insecurity and sex life? I'm ready to praise vetiver but this is slightly overkill don't you think?
Brand new Encre Noire Sport 50 ml for sale. 99.9% content. I blind bought it and will now pass it on. Comes in original box.
Price: €40 + shipping (worldwide).
Why would anyone want to drink coffee when there's coke? Coke is sweet and easy to like, coffee is bitter and an acquired taste. I think it's a pretty close analogy. Sometimes coke is just too boring...
When it comes to flirting and dating, I think men can take naivite and douchery to a whole different level compared to women. And looking for panty dropper colognes is up there, so it's probably more...
I tell them. I don't see the point in lying. Even if they use "my" cologne, why not, it's a free world.
Various conversation topics can be used as ice breakers. If it happens to be cologne, happy times. But to search the internet for the perfect ice breaker cologne is in my opinion, with all due...
Just wear what you like goddamit. Women who are attracted to you, will be attracted to you. It's not like wearing the "magic potion" with an awkward "I am attracting the ladies now.. right?"-attitude...
So if you spend $$$ on lipstick it should be smeared all over the face? Makes no sense at all.
I agree. This bad boy is stylish on another level. It's a Clint Eastwood type of cool. You're wearing a double set of Colts in your waist holster.
Blue smells similar to a certain genre of body gels and drug store deodorants that I recall mostly from the 90's. I can't pin down which ones exactly.
While I can understand the disappointment in the naming (L'eau would've been so much better), I don't agree that this is a safe fragrance. Reality check please. No vetiver fragrance is safe, if by...
For sale is Rober Piguet Bois Noir. 100 ml. Content is 95-99%.
Shelf price = $150.
Selling for = $55 + postage from EU (shipping worldwide)
More about the fragrance:
Most likely nothing is wrong with you. Most people have a dislike for certain scents. However, in rare circumstances there can be surpressed scent memories associated with child abuse or a disturbed...
Haven't tried it myself but check out Zegna Sicilian Mandarine.
I know this is a prejudice, but generally people on Basenotes are trashtalking aquatics because it's a supposed marker of exclusive taste to dislike what is popularly liked. Had the historical...
How much rose is in the Oud? I like oud but I've a difficult time with rose..
I can't tell you what smells like Bleu, but I can tell you that everytime I smell Bleu I smell something sporty/citrusy/body spray thing that I've smelled before. To me it smells like something rich...
Kidding. Please read the original post before posting. For me soapy is a very specific take on clean. And I see soapy divided into two kinds - green soapy (like Creed OV, Mugler...
They didn't even know they existed? Boo!
Bleu is a great scent without personality, Allure is an ok scent with a lot of personality.
Has anyone tried any of these?
Many good suggestions have been suggested but there's only one winner. This fragrance is bad.
2 Intensa Oud
Fahrenheit is good call.
I think it's great. It has a clean and sharp aura (in the vein of Eau Sauvage), yet rounded with a bit of powdery soapiness and some cigar smoke. It definitely has character and stands out without...
If it's strictly for island purposes you may be forgiven. Otherwise, please leave Basenotes before we hurt you.
I would be afraid of someone wearing 20 sprays. Seriously.
I think the site could easily amend some of the issues mentioned by creating more and better sub-forums, such as:
- Preference polls and fragrance advice
- Designer fragrances
- Niche fragrances...
Quite frequently posters ignore what the OP is asking for and just post what they feel like posting. I don't think that's helpful. It doesn't mean I'm depressed about it.
Maybe the OP has less of an issue with it than I do.
Snobbism is good when manifested as a combination of object-fetischism and self-irony.
Snobbism is bad when manifested as a combination of ownership-claim and ego-sensitivity.
When hobby forums...
Style: Smoky oriental fougere
Top: Mandarin, Star anise
Middle: Iris, Frankincense, Cardamom
Base: Oud, Cedar, Tonka bean
Love how the OP asked for one love/hate and one only and people are like "screw this guy, i'll post everything I can think of because it gives me pleasure".
Thanks for your thoughts, I will check them out (I've only tried Jubilation from the bunch)!
I guess I'm looking for an Armani Code or YSL La Nuit de L'Homme with a heavy dose of incense and/or...
I'm looking for a powdery and incensy oriental similar to FA.
+ What I like with FA: The incense, resionous woods, the level of sweetness, oud, leather - combined with the powder.
- What I...
Carthusia Meditteraneo - smells like lemon ice tea.
The Guilty line is horrible. Both in terms of scent and presentation. What's up with the batman logo? Completely ruined Gucci as a credible fragrance brand.
I agree, no need to argue. We have different definitions of generalization. I don't think it has anything to do with sample size, I think it has to do with making universal statements that may not be...
Interesting take on the question:

Of course it's a property of lions, but it's...
Why can't you talk in generalities? Most lions are yellow. That's a generalization, because there are a few white ones. But that doesn't change the fact that most lions are yellow. Political...
Egoiste - Europe
Egoiste platinum - USA
As a side note, when people say asia they usually refer to the far east. It would be better to use that term.
There's snobbism in all hobbies and all snobbism is to some degree a matter of self-deception, or con if you will. My issue with Creed, specifically, is that the brand is a bit tacky. The cooked up...
Grey vetiver by Tom Ford is bright and citrusy enough to work in the spring and summer with light application, yet has enough mossy amber to work in the fall and winter. It is green and bitter...
I think the calone is most present in the opening, together with the citrus. To my nose the heart is more dominated by gasoline like flowers, somewhat remniscent of Fahrenheit. Then it dries down to...
All bottles sold, thanks.
I agree, Marc is very much not a snob. Almost anti-snob. That's why I like him. No pretense, he has 500 bottles and Le Male is his favorite. Suck it up.
In principle, there's nothing that says wearing a certain fragrance couldn't make you come off as snobbish. It's all about scent memory.
The problem is that fragrances aren't, at least...
For some reason I dislike the entire Homme series. L'eau is the best of them, however. Despite being a fan of vetiver, Boisee didn't work for me. Gave off this very weird curry smell.
Good call :)
I somewhat agree. I think women like clean/fresh/slightly sweet in a higher ratio than men, and vice versa for musky/woody, even though in absolute numbers men could still prefer clean. Say 70:60,...
Absolutely. I was just objecting to the use of the "500+ list" as some sort of arbitrator on the matter, nothing else. I think we agree.
The anecdotes in this thread are interesting for what they are, anecdotes. But you are right, they are not more statistically relevant than the mentioned list. Nor have I claimed so.
The difference is that the list is not giving you anything but a statistic and the statistic is severly flawed, hence useless, while the opinions of people in this thread or on the board in general...
You should never wear a fragrance when you're on the International Space Station. See this thread: http://www.basenotes.net/threads/325736-Where-NOT-to-wear-fragrances
The average basenoter contributing to that list is not wearing a random sample of fragrances. Quite likely he wears TdH disproportionally often, he is hence more likely to receive a compliment on it,...
Gym. Please don't.
I'm surprised Allure is so much more favored. Personally I prefer the drydown of Allure but I have a bit of an issue with the peach note in the opening.
Similar style - generic/versatile, fresh, spicy, sweet. Which do you prefer?
Would go for regular Bottled for day and night.
You can wear whatever you want. Will it come across as a feminine fragrance? Yes.
Go light! 2-3 sprays is enough of any fragrance. It's supposed to add to your natural scent, not project like some kind of walking advertisment. But yes, I've made the mistake of overapplying and it...
I'm interested in your thoughts, not just your preference. Thanks!
Bvlgari Aqva PH
Dior Homme Sport (2008)
Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche
I'm ambivalent towards TdH.
When I smell it on others, it sometimes smells fresh and groomed, other times thick and musty. I also experience this when wearing it myself - it kind of walks on a...
TF Grey Vetiver. The synthetic rubber glove note in the middle ruins an otherwise perfect fragrance.
When I think fresh winter fragrances I think fresh orientals or oriental fougeres, like Le Male, YSL La Nuit de l'Homme, and the like.
I think you should give it time, this one is a "grower". I didn't like it at first, now I think it's brilliant.
I agree that Mugler Cologne can give off a feminine vibe, especially when first sprayed. However, Creed Original Vetiver is essentially the same thing but more masculine and deeper.
I agree that they are awful. They look like toyish.
I pick up the lavender but only slightly.
My guess is that you are put off by the indoles in the middle? Do you find that it's at its worst say after 15 minutes to the following hour or so? Then...
Prada Infusion d'Homme.
I would really like to see some objective facts on this. I'm very hesitant to believe that fragrances "turn" after only a year or two that you sometimes read, because the industry obviously has an...
I don't get why people are so focused on compliments. Sorry to be cynical, but this is a numbers game. Out of 100 random girls, 10 will hate it, 20 will be ok with it, 50 will like it, 15 will love...
Is there a touch of smokiness in the Zegna as in Code?
Nah, it's too bright. But TdH Noire maybe?
Yes, this is a bit unsettling about this fragrance. I do like it a lot on paper and on myself, but it behaves erratically when I smell it on others. If it's very faint, it may come across as...
Hermes doing encre noire.
Which do you prefer and why?
Any other fragrance in the same style worth looking into?
I actually agree that they are similar, but I'm not sure why because they shouldn't be. For me, Bleu wins on prettiness, Aqva wins on personality. I always go for personality over prettiness.
It's his way or the highway.
The opening is absolutely stunning. I never get enough of it. Unfortunately they ruined the mid with a rubber glove note. I don't know what it is but it smells like rubber glove.
It didn't screw the others up. Calm down, wash them off and be happy. Now you've tested Jeune Homme and it's obviously not for you, it induces panic attacks ;)
If you think it's worth the effort,...
