I think both the fragrance and ad for Tom Ford Grey Vetiver fit the bill when it comes to clean cut, professional and well groomed.
I really can't believe Creed discontinued this one. Vetiver 48 is one of the best high-class fragrances out there in my opinion and should have remained in their collection forever.
Creed Royal Oud
Van Cleef and Arpels Midnight in Paris is EXACTLY what you described. Definitely check it out.
Creed Sublime Vanille
Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme
This is just too true, that's why decants are so great! (By the way, this guy does an awesome job with splits)
Amber Absolute is a work of art with a perfect balance of amber and incense. Get it while you can though, as I believe it's been discontinued.
Order a sample of M7 asap if you like Oud Wood. I thought Oud Wood was good, but M7 has quickly become one of my all time favorites. Out of the vintage, reformulated, and Oud Absolu, my favorite is...
Hey OP, what did you end up buying? To throw in my two cents, the original Allure is one of my favorite fragrances and I would really recommend that one. Terre d'Hermes is nice but a little too...
Yeah I can understand your point, I've tried some fragrances that have a lot of hype and have ended up being huge disappointments to me as well. One fragrance might be a holy grail to someone but...
Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male
L'Instant de Guerlain Extreme
Creed Sublime Vanille
Yes, it's definitely worth it! It is a happy scent as has been mentioned and I like it quite a bit.
I'd go with L'Eau D'Issey over Chrome personally, but they both have incredible longevity for aquatic fragrances so you can't really go wrong here.
Whew, TV on its own is pretty powerful in my opinion. Has anyone tried this combination?
I didn't know they changed Dior Homme Sport as well, what's it like?
Cool, I'll definitely be on the lookout for this one as the original Light Blue wasn't too bad actually. It's a shame they didn't go with Light Blue SPORT :D
This seemed a little strange to me as well. If that was possible I would have bought that last Vetiver 48 tester at my local Neimans :(
I've really got to give Jeux de Peau a try as it seems like something I'd really enjoy. As far as recommendations from me, I'd say New Haarlem or Tonka Imperiale.
That's really too bad if it is true, it is a nice fragrance. They only have three men's fragrances in total so I guess they're putting a lot of hope in the Amber brothers.
I'd say Allure Home Sport for the daytime and Aventus for the evening/night.
Yves Saint Laurent M7 (Vintage)
I really enjoy Tom Ford Amber Absolute, it has a fantastic balance of incense and amber. Try Profumum Ambra Aurea if you want just a pure amber.
Wow, this is great news! I can't wait to find out what's coming up, especially for the designer men's release.
However, I am pretty disappointed in the fact that the unsuccessful private blends...
This is how I feel as well, fragrance is something that can make you feel like you're in a different place or comfort you wherever you are. Wearing a fragrance makes the day that much better in my...
New Haarlem is one of the best gourmands out there, so I'd go with that one.
I've got to go with the whole Blu Mediterraneo line from Acqua di Parma. They look like something you can find at a local drugstore:
Yves Saint Laurent M7
Give Amouage Reflection Man a try as well as Xerjoff Oesel. Both are niche versions of Le Male in my opinion.
Creed Green Irish Tweed
Yves Saint Laurent M7
I prefer Riverside Drive by quite a bit, seeing as though it's one of my favorite Bonds. I had high hopes for Invasion Barbare but to me it just smelled like carbonated water.
It is a REALLY unique fragrance and I can't think of anything that smells like it. I prefer other Creeds to it though.
I though Vetiver Extraordinaire might be the perfect fragrance to fit this description, but I see that it unfortunately didn't work for you. Very impressive search though, good luck finding what...
Tonka Imperiale is a smoother and more enjoyable fragrance for me.
SDV has far too many harsh spices that distract me from the vanilla in it, which is very high quality. If anyone else has the...
I think Avignon is very nice, but if you're looking for a comparable Catholic Church incense give Heeley Cardinal a try.
Yeah, I've been a victim of these sales tactics as well, but thank goodness I've never made a purchase. The names of these fragrances are hilarious by the way (10 Billion? 313 Men?)
For the most part I enjoy fragrances that have tonka bean in them. That being said, I haven't tried the essential oil form of it so I guess I can't be 100% sure.
I'm not much of a fan of this one either. It is a high quality fragrance but there is just too much piercing incense for me.
Wow, this is always an interesting topic to me even though I've never tried it myself. Let us know if you find any other good combinations.
This is getting pretty sad. It's as if each of these fragrance houses are going through a mid-life crisis trying to appeal to young consumers.
I've got to go with Green Irish Tweed on this one, one of the greatest of all time.
Comme des Garçons Wonderwood
Try these from Bond No. 9:
I Love New York for All
I'd say Creed Original Vetiver and Creed Original Cologne.
Give these ones a try:
Le Labo Gaiac 10
Creed Original Cologne (or its new name, Pure White Cologne)
Prada Infusion d'Homme
That's very nice of you to do, spcmiller. I'm really looking forward to the results on this one, my guess is the vintage M7 will win.
I have a sample of this but I haven't gotten around to testing it out yet. I really enjoy vanilla fragrances and it definitely sounds complex and well done.
From your wardrobe I'd go with one of your Tom Fords. Grey Vetiver or Italian Cypress would be my top picks.
I'd say either Grey Vetiver or Green Irish Tweed, both high quality office scents.
The point about the EDP strength of Bond scents is what I think makes them worthwhile. Some of them may smell similar to Creed but when it comes to longevity and projection, Bond wins every time.
I'm sure there are a few that you'd like from the line if you spend some more time with them. I agree that they are too expensive, but then again most niche fragrances are. Did you try Riverside...
Wow, great news for splitters. This size and pricepoint per oz makes it about the same price as some designer fragrances.
I agree. I do like Bulgari Black but I think Midnight in Paris is more complex. Another one that is comparable is V&R Spicebomb, but it is probably my least favorite of the three.
Tom Ford Amber Absolute
The EDP is a little too strong and peppery for me, so I'd prefer the EDT.
My decant of Jardin d'Amalfi is probably going to get a lot of use, along with Green Irish Tweed and Allure Homme.
Got to go with Musc Ravageur on this one.
I think it's well done and I always give it a try when I see it in a department store. That being said, I can never fully decide if it's worth a full bottle. Maybe one day.
It's an excellent gourmand that smells so much like apple pie it's unbelievable. However, to my nose it is far too sweet and would be hard to wear if I did own a bottle.
Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree was actually the only fragrance I had for a while before I really got into the hobby. It's really good stuff. I'd like to try the original but it seems impossible to...
I don't own either, but I have tried both and I prefer Gucci Pour Homme II. I know the thread title is a figure of speech but it's a bit of a stretch to classify someone wearing a Gucci fragrance as...
I'd like to give the Cologne version a try, it seems pretty good. I do like the original but it is pretty difficult to pull off.
After testing out Oud Absolu, I believe it is YSL who are distributing this as a counterfeit M7. Therefore, each bottle of OA is inherently a fake.
Mugler Cologne is VERY similar to Original Vetiver, however given the choice I'd go with OV.
The story is kind of interesting, but I think it exists primarily for sales associates to "wow" their customers.
LIDGE is a masterpiece, so my vote is to do the swap. However, that PH (Pure Havane?) could land you a few hundred dollars in a couple years on ebay...
I have an official sample that will last me quite a while, mostly because I never use it. Maybe it will grow on me though, because I do enjoy gourmands.
I'd have to go with Chanel Allure Homme Sport.
Hmm...None of the above?
Great thread idea!
Spring: Jardin d'Amalfi
Summer: Millesime Imperial
Winter: Silver Mountain Water
All Season: Green Irish Tweed
Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur
Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille
Guerlain Tonka Imperiale
Diptyque Eau Duelle
Serge Lutens Chergui
Bond No. 9 I Love New York for All
That's just too much juice, even thought the price per ml is the best value. The longer I've been in this hobby, the more I realize that the best thing to do is buy decants of fragrances you really...
Silver Mountain Water
I haven't smelled either, but I would go with Pure Shot.
I don't really see the similarity, but to each their own.
I'd go with 212.
I haven't seen Polo Explorer in a while, has it been discontinued?
If all you have is Creeds, you're doing just fine. It's my favorite house as well.
Wow those bottles are amazing. This actually makes me want to try out the Blu Mediterraneo line, which I had essentially ignored because of the old bottle design. Well done, Acqua di Parma.
I agree with this assessment. However, if wearing it makes you happy then wear it!
Pure Coffee, Pure Malt, and Pure Havane were all popular and discontinued. Pure Shot so far has been huge disappointment. This leads me to believe that Pure Shot will remain a mainstay in the Thierry...
Musc Ravageur is the only animalic fragrance I would recommend to anyone that isn't offensive.
M7 is one of the few fragrances that really does leave me impressed each time I sample it. A true masterpiece.
Hmm, it is very nice but I find it kind of linear. Can't go wrong with Chanel though.
L'Homme BY FAR! One of my favorite fragrances!
Thanks for making a thread like this, I think it should be an official thread to keep people informed of what may be on the verge of being discontinued. If there are people who are closely involved...
That would seem like what would happen to those of us on basenotes, but I'd say maybe less than .001% of the world's population will be wearing GIT on St. Patrick's day. I'm pretty sure you'll more...
Creed Royal Oud
I've got to say the three that best do this are Creed MI, Creed Erolfa, and Heeley Sel Marin. However, I only enjoy MI from this list.
These two are pretty pricey but are PERFECT for spring:
Creed Jardin d'Amalfi
Creed Millesime Imperial
Like people have already said, check out Sean John's collection and you might find some good alternatives. Better yet, go to heperd and get the real thing for $66 for 50ml each!!!
