I both prefer the scent of LDDM and find it more wearable
Silver Mountain Water
Not quite legendary status but ALOF WWDIPIAS (ain't nobody got time fo dat) ;)
Versatile - Bleecker
Interesting - Silver Factory
I have the reformulated version and love it. I get a big blast of tea for the 1st hour, but closer to say an earl grey, with the spices adding complexity without making it too foody. This keeps it...
Sounds a bit like By Kilian Love. Would be great if it was a less sweet version!
Pardon is one of my faves and gets my vote
Bleecker is far more interesting to my nose.
Yes quite enjoyed this one, and found it similar to another underrated Montale that NEVER gets mentioned - Moon Aoud.
Got a decent on the way so will report back shortly. Looking forward to it.
Opus X seems like it could be akin to other rose-ouds. Note the "varnish accord". Watch out Montale! I'm actually excited to try it though.
I like this description of Dark Aoud
I found Red Aoud to be nauseating but enjoy Aoud Musk. Aoud Lime is good too but I settled on a bottle of Nepal Aoud as I found it the most wearable.
Absolutely love it. Similar to Black Line but sweeter, richer and a bit rougher IMO.
My go-to's are Tuscan Leather and Pure Malt
They're quite different, but I much prefer Black Line. However if you're a huge fan of Royal Black then Black Line may not be your cup of tea.
- The rose in RB is brighter and more powdery. The...
At that price, definitely. Great frag IMO.
If I were you (or had my time over), I would ONLY buy decants while you're navigating the hobby. You'd be surprised how much your tastes change after 5 or 10ml of using something. Just my $0.02.
haha love it. way to comply with OP request!
Came here to say this.
Thought I'd resurrect this thread. This is one my fave genres. Agree with the T42 opinions above. Some others:
Any new suggestions?
The best thing about this news, is that it should put a stop to threads in the theme of "Alternatives to D&G The One with better longevity".
Much prefer Black Line
Montale Dark Aoud - this generated a lot of discussion due to its polarising nature. Wearing my sample tonight and enjoying much more than 2 years ago.
+1 New Haarlem
Body Kouros! I...
I have decants of both, prefer Aoud Musk.
I think Cruel Intentions might be what you're after.
Has anyone tried Aoud Line? I really like Black Line and heard it's similar.
I'm loving all the responses, and enjoying the different interpretations!
haha yes you should be the expert on this topic
I've come to realise I quite like scents that can be considered "jammy", whether it be from rose or perhaps berry/fruit. A couple I like are Xerjoff More Than Words and Kerosene Fields of Rubus....
Scentstory 24 Gold / Lattafa Raghba (very similar)
Montale Aoud Musk
Just received a decant of this and was much different to what I expected. It seems REALLY citric/sharp to me, and I get very little rose (would like some more to round it out). Does anyone else find...
Expensive - Nasomatto Pardon
Cheap - Lattafa Raghba
Overrated - Chergui, Straight to Heaven
Underrated - Cape Heartache, Aomassai
Here to stay. Sure the production of oud scents will slow to a halt given the saturation in recent years but the note is clearly a popular one. Oud seems to be becoming more commonly used as a...
Of the two I would go for the DSquared.
Pretty much this. Price is less relevant these days as I will just get in on a split.
I also found this surprisingly bad. Surprising because I thought it would at least be a wearable aquatic. But it was pretty offensive to my nose.
Not sure if that rumour about the money is true...
I think I know what you're referring to. I kinda get a fizzy bugspray type note in certain ouds that actually appeals to me. Try Oud Silk Mood or Ex Idolo Thirty-Three.
Sorry no similarities to me either
I'm glad you mention that LHBI. I thought I was going to love SOPFH and while it smelt nice, there was something not pleasant when I smelt directly on my skin. Kinda like a generic alcohol smell...
Tom Ford Tuscan Leather
So many, but I'll say Black Afgano.
Does anyone know why this is so much more expensive than the rest of the line (on Essenza Nobile)? 150EUR vs 80EUR for most other Manceras.
This could be a winner. Though I suspect it may disappoint the true NR fans with a more "accessible" twist. The original seemed to receive a lot of praise for being.. well, original.
Gucci PH II. I can't see many people not liking this plus it's actually very unique = winner.
Can't remember what the Kenzo smells like but Shelter Island is a a nice creamy marine scent :) Tried it recently and thought it was quite good.
Tried this yesterday and must say I'm a fan. It has the Montale DNA but feels very restrained and balanced. The rose is subtle and the overall feel is smooth and somewhat textured, rather than...
Surprised it took that long for these two stunners to be mentioned.
I will add Xerjoff Kobe.
I've only tried Oud Alif and was also pleasantly surprised.
Maybe try A Lab on Fire. Liquidnight would make a great daily fall scent.
Clive Christian X
Tried this just now. Reminds me of Interlude Man (without the massive dose of oregano!). Well worth a try and nice find OP.
While you do mention that you're not into gourmands, I believe Dior Homme (or Intense) is unique enough to have a place in every collection.
Maybe try Halston Man Amber
Ok fair enough. Yeah shipping was reasonably quick from both those sites.
Yes I'd love to see what they'd do. I could see something like Frapin 1270.
I'm Australian and had excellent experiences from Parfums Raffy and Luckyscent.
Where do you live Messiah? I've seen all those frags in Myer Melbourne.
Received my first compliment in a long time today...
I've had La Nuit for a few years and only worn it a couple times. I find it a bit cloying and sometimes gives me a headache. Anyway today I...
Memoir Man springs to mind for me, but I may be alone.
All these scents seem to get heavy praise, but I'm curious which comes out on top. The problem is I'm not sure how many have smelt all three.
This might actually be close as they both have their loyal fans. My vote goes to LDDM though.
Agree with everything said here.
My picks to try based on notes would be Vetiver Geranium and Aberdeen Lavender.
Cheapie but a goodie: Declaration D'un Soir
Thanks for sharing. My favourite of those would be Aoud Lime.
Definitely agree that this may often be the case
Thanks for the story, bigbz! Stigma aside, Leau D'Issey and 1 Million do seem to have good mass appeal.
The obvious assertion could be that the type of frag would dictate results. However I should...
Yeah I mean naturally I get out and about, whether it be bars or just hanging at a friends place. I really don't expect to ever receive a compliment from a stranger, but based on probabilities alone...
To contrast the thread about compliments received...
I have to say in the 4 years or so since I got into this hobby, I've almost never received compliments on my frags. Let me say, this does NOT...
Hide your wife, hide your kids.
I personally find that DHI works fine in summer. I think you've made a good choice!
Reformulation aside, I think this makes sense for the sake of streamlining their line. This way Oud just becomes a flanker, rather than a flanker of a flanker.
Keep in mind the extended name...
Wow Havane way out in front
I tried many of the Montale ouds and couldn't find the right fit for me, but I think I've found it today in Aoud Musk. Has that signature synthetic Montale oud structure without being too dirty...
Notes sound interesting but wouldn't be surprised if it smells like wet dog (literally).
Oud Royal for me. Oud Wood I find a bit off-putting for some reason. Maybe I need to resample this.
Agree with most of this, except I didn't find it powdery. But I found it sweeter, fruitier, more linear and more feminine that DHI. I do think they have a similar *smell*. Really wasn't a fan.
Aventus is easy any which way.
Tuscan Leather I think is the general public could take it or leave it. It's definitely challenging. I personally think it's amazing but actually don't feel...
L'ol du Desert Marocain
Xerjoff Shooting Stars Set
Nasomatto Pardon (could never justify the outrageous price for 30ml)
I was looking forward to your review of Bleecker St and glad you like it.
I felt the same way as you when I first tried it. I've waivered in my appreciation a bit lately but I'm hoping your...
My answers in bold.
Hoba sounds.... intense.
Scent-less in my opinion for interviews
I actually ended up going with DHI. I know, what a cop-out!
Yeah very nice choices. I kinda like the idea of something more mature and unique, even if you don't usually associate them with "parties".
