Lucienne by Lucienne von Doz -- thanks for Perfume_Addict for turning me onto this little known gem!
I was thinking the same -- or you could try a dry incense scent
Here's a helpful "how-to" guide from Grant: A guide to choosing and buying fragrance http://www.basenotes.net/reference/buying.html
I do hope she comes back... I would imaging that basenotes alone generated a lot of business for her... but maybe not enough
S is for Sacrebleu by Parfums de Nicolaï
SL Vetiver Oriental
deleted -- wrong thread
Q is for Querelle by Parfumerie Generale
I does not get that hot inside, but it can get into low 80s upstairs on especially hot days without AC, so I took my full bottles to the office (always 74 F). I only have about a dozen bottles so it...
It's a fragrance not my first born.
yeah that was my first reaction. I was thinking about Hong Kong Garden and one of the ambers...
Oh well... too many perfumes (and perfumers) too little time. Sonoma Scent Studio is a good house to...
K is for Kelly Calèche by Hermès
F is for Fureur d'Agrumes by Esteban
Fougere Bengale by Parfum d'Empire
A is for Ambre Russe by Parfum d'Empire
I read on NST that the two scents are not related.
have you tried it?
P is for Perla by Farmacia SS. Annunziata
second that. i tested fracas once and the next day i could smell it on the sleeves of my jacket where the fabric touched my skin
Lola was okay -- musky peony to my nose (I washed it off after about 10 min as I was sampling other stuff at the time, so did not wait for the full dry down). Upon the initial sniff it more "grown...
probably 2 max -- this stuff is way strong!
d is for dama by laura tonatto
I'm afraid I have to add Emotionelle by DelRae to this list -- too many melons! It's a "weird" melon -- something not quite right with it.
Although some people consider it to be an exceptional...
V is for Vetiver by Jalaine
T is for Twill Rose by Les Parfums de Rosine
K is for Kretek by Ava Luxe
F is for Ferre by Ferre
D is for Debut by Parfums DelRae
Are you ordering a bottle or samples?
PS -- for osmanthus, I'd much rather go with Osmanthus Interdite by Parfum d'Empire
B is for Baroque by Fragonard
Passed on a dozen+ samples to a friend of mine -- trying to "convert" her.
Also finished a couple:
Chanel Sycomore -- that was probably the most "masculine" in the Exclusifs that I tried: dry...
Y is for Y by YSL
V is Vanilla by Jalaine
Well it's too late now!
T is for Teakwood by Ava Luxe
A good source to locate the perfumers who use only natural ingredients is the Natural Perfumers Guild:
I think that's a great suggestion! The samples are a great addition to the gift card.
Q is for Quand Vient La Pluie by by Guerlain
Ah, Basenotes are detrimental to my will power! Today's 'find': Calypso for $20 including shipping http://community.basenotes.net/showthread.php?t=233979 I've considered either Vanille or Amber, but...
Heeley Iris de Nuit -- nice iris, but nothing groundbreaking
M is for Mimosa Pour Moi by L'Artisan
K is for Kelly Calèche by by Hermès
Interesting... I was able to try 100% love (thanks to a generous basenoter) and it seemed nice rather than weird -- a light candid rose.
Rogalal, I always enjoy reading your SOTD posts!
Today I went from Chanel Sycomore (nice, but only on occasion) to Le Labo Vetyver (scrubber) to Yves Rocher Neonatura Cocoon (now I see why people...
Ha! I'm with you on this.
I is for Iris Bleu Gris by MPG
Welcome! I hope you enjoy BaseNotes.
Fresh Cannabis Santal (at Sephora)
Serge Lutens Santal Blanc (at Barney's or order sample online)
Ava Luxe No 23 (samples may be hard to come by, or try Perfumed Court)....
One other suggestion -- you can set up a goal of wearing all the scents you have for a day and then writing a review for the directory. With 60+ fragrances in your collection, that will keep you busy...
Although not pure incense, I get a distinct incense vibe in Chanel Sycomore (Les Exclusifs). It's worth sampling!
My favorite leather is Cuir Ottoman by Parfum d'Empire -- very elegant and "lady-like"; SL Daim Blond and Cuir de Lancome are worth sampling too (Lancome is probably the second favorite, then SL).
Even in a glass atomizer, the spray tube and cap are typically plastic (or at least the tube). Even the bottles all (pretty much) have plastic tubing. So I don't think it's the 'plastic' per se that...
Yip yip hurrah!
Thanks so much for the fun contest!
Well, I've made a (somewhat dubious) achievement of having sampled 650 scents -- it took me slightly under 6 weeks to test another 100 fragrances. I expect my rate of sampling of new scents to slow...
That's a great suggestion!
I would say you are in luck! If there's nothing else that you'd want to get, just seat back, relax and enjoy the scents you already own!
(sorry this is not too helpful! But acquisition for...
I just recently sampled it and it seemed very restrained -- floral/fruity/soapy leather. No 'bathroom' smell at all.
I need to dig out my sample of Terre d'Iris, but I tried Iris Taizo just now --- wow, it’s really good. Kind of a leathery iris -- reminded me a bit of PdE Equistrius, but more buttery, more...
Diptyques Philosykos has amazing longevity after moderate application. It was actually too much for me after the first couple of hours.
Diptyque L’eau de Tarocco was very nice -- I was not...
Come to think of it, Vanilla Spice by Lavanila is a nice dry, woody vanilla (I mostly got 'woody', not 'spicy') and quite unisex. The line is available at Sephora; you'll find the fragrances either...
I've come across a theory that L'Artisan redesigned the bottles to appeal to men; the rounder bottles were coming across as "feminine." Don't know if this is true, but I do like the new bottles...
I've found HR to be quite unisex; I get a lot of opoponax from it.
I'll test it again and post my impressions.
Parfum e’Empire (would gladly own most of their women’s/unisex fragrances)
Runner up: Chanel Les Exclusifs (don’t care for the gallon sized bottles though)
Parfum d'Empire Cuir Ottoman
Habit Rouge, anyone?
I get a lot of opoponax in it.
Yep, she also looks like she got 15 year younger in the process.
here's a a couple 'non photo shoot' pictures
Thanks for the 'insider' perspective. Yes, it seems like such a waste! Too bad...
Bought a mini of Chanel No 5 EdT, supposedly vintage. We'll see!
Depends on your tolerance towards blind buys -- but I'd say yes
hopefully Aedes will carry it so that I can get a sample... most things Amouage are worthy of sampling.
EL immediately came to mind!
I think these are best dabbed -- and in minuscule amounts, not sprayed. I can't handle them sprayed.
MAC Africanimal (I think I'm going to polish off this sample soon).
I've not tried A*Men, but I got Angel (Thierry Mugler) vibe from Borneo.
I'd take Coromondel over Borneo, as others said.
Wow, no way! Cocoon is straight up vanilla, no similarity to...
MAC Africanimal (layers nicely with Eau Premiere)
....once they run out of stock?
I've had an experience that made me wonder about this. While sniffing with BlackCat and AOG, we stopped by the MAC perfume counter, where BlackCat got the last...
Same as wannabelyn, I found it very nondescript.
The new version is now in stock at Aedes. But wouldn't it make more sense to buy the Shisheido version at half price?
To my nose, SO was woody-tuberose (tuberose was what made me not like it). I did not think that it was close to FdB -- which is woody-fruity.
Chanel No 5 Eau Premier
Really? The Canadian dollar seems to be pretty strong against the dollar (like $100 CAD to 90 USD)
Profumo.it Rose de Bois in the AM
Guerlain Oriental Brulant in the PM
Wonderful aromas all around!
I'm trying to defer my spending to the August sniffing extravaganza in San Francisco, so hoping for no full bottles until then.
I bought a set of Parfums DelRae samples -- a steal for $6.
Chanel is floral-aldehydic; Crystalle is a green floral I believe. I'm not familiar with Van Clef or L'Air du Temps. What might help is to read the reviews for these fragrances in the directory --...
I believe you need to be flying international to buy at Duty Free, correct?
I've seen a store at Vegas I believe; as others said it's the usual designer scents. It's fun to go sniffing anyway.
I actually like the 30 ml size... I was looking forward to buying more from her; hope the store comes back!
I've purchased 2.5 ml and 5 ml plastic spray atomizers from LotionCrafters:
It's really up to you how you want to use the wardrobe. I personally list full/travel size bottles & large decants on my "Own" list. Samples and small decants go on my "Test" list. Basically, the...
By the way, you can still buy Shisheido version at some US online discounters
also tried sl datura noire -- it failed to agree with me; i mostly got tuberose. it reminded me of pdn cococabana - coconut / tubereuse
Due to influx of new samples, I doubt I've worn anything twice in July
An entry in the affordable category: Yves Rocher Voile d'Ambre. It's marketed as feminine, but I think a guy can wear it as well.
(I don't get anything rotten about it -- very nice to my nose....
Baghari by Robert Piguet (re-issue)
That's a bummer!
I believe Ava Luxe had gone on hiatus once before (that was before I joined base notes I believe -- so maybe 2007 or 2008?)
I hope she'll bring back her full range of offerings...
A side note, I don't believe there's any 'rose' in this one; 'Pamplemousse Rose' translated from French is 'Pink grapefruit'
