Thank you both very much. Greatly appreciated :)

Thank you both very much. Greatly appreciated :)
I know this isn't strictly a DIY query but I'm hoping you knowledgable DIYers can help. On some perfume labels there appears to be a "proof" value. Do you know what this means? For example, Malle...
Great article thanks Pia. Can you tell me, does IFRA actually decide which substances are allergens or does it only suggest controls after the EU make the "allergen" decision?
We're trying to breath some life back into this group right now. Come and pay us a visit :)
Great. Thanks Grant. Can you add AU for Australia please?
Where are you finding these Paul?
OOh don't know about that one - I don't speak French :(
noggs basically summed it up but which labels are grey? I don't recall grey ones...
Thank you :)
Going for a private session rather than a fixed one so I need to nominate 20-30 fragrances.
Very informative Cacio, I have already read you earlier posts - that's where some of my...
Well I'll be visiting the Osmotheque and I'd like some feedback and suggestions about what to try :)
I thought it's best to ask here since all the fragrances will basically be "feminine"....
Try Aoud Rose Petals too
Apologies for not posting earlier but here's my early impressions.
Hyraceum on it's own smells carnal, urinous and a little animalic. The other impression I get is mustiness that calls to mind...
Def not an incense frag. Exactly how incesey do you want?
Comme's Kyoto is a great and wearable choice that's not too expensive. Also Avignon is good but more straight up incense than Kyoto.
I think it's quite decent. The violet and woody-ish notes are very nice. There is a synth sweetness that pops up in the mid but I don't find it to be offensive. Others obviously do. Probably depends...
The excellent and raunchy/naughty little iris frag from MPG.
Do you get the sense of body/lived-in odor from this one? I certainly do.
Have you tried it? What do you think? Any difference...
Oh, the BV wallet looks great!
I'd stay away from Prada mens wallets. I received one as a gift and the quality is poor.
Philosykos (both EDT & EDP) is talked about the most with good reason. A must sniff.
Had a sample and it lasted all day for me.
It's possible but I wouldn't necessarily take one comment on LuckyScent as fact. Perhaps get a new sample to be sure.
Interested in your thoughts if you do.
wait, is it the box or the bottle colour you are asking about?
Yes they are similar so worth testing 1725 if you like the feel of IB.
Only similar mind you....
Don't overlook Or Black - especially the vintage juice.
Agreed. It's a great scent. It was my daily wear for a while after it came out.
I think S-Perfume's 100% Love is the rename and used to be A Lab On Fire's Rose Rebelle.
Oh and +1 but make sure you test it first. It is perhaps not what you'd expect. I do love it though.
Enjoying our very own Hilaire's vidz at the mo - listed as user "Fumerie Hilaire".
KP is good.
I like robes but less and less recently as the vidz become longer and the presentation becomes more...
Thanks for the update. Fingers crossed :)
It's been ranging from slow to very very very slow here. Not getting instant notifications either.
Borneo by far for me
Lonestar Memories is the only leather I get a "meaty" accord from.
Ya know I still haven't tried it. I feel like I must now :)
I think the bottle it comes in is a big part of the image problem.
Well, well....just checked my vintage bottle and yep there's sediment.....who would have thought. Still not sure it's anything to do with real oud though. I enjoy real oud oil occasionally and it...
Terribly slow here. 30+ secs to load a page. Have had a timeout too.
It's fun to generalise:
American - often clean, often linear
French - often develops the most / generally not linear
Italian - tendency toward herbaceous and citric notes
Was getting double posts and the site was intermittently very slow or not responding. Seems okay the moment.
My fav of the list although they're all good or better
That's because those people are wrong.
Enjoy an amazing fragrance!
Oooh, I see Basenotes in double posting again.......
Testing this at the mo coincidentally. The opening is a very familiar rosey bouquet mixed with white florals - very feminine by current standards.
It's settling down after about 30 mins and the...
Jealous! Fantastic Andre. Brings back some memories :)
They switch depending on my mood but "2" is the one I find myself reaching for most often.
Very dark brown is the correct colour.
Not aware of a reform of MR
I don't find Santal Noble powdery either....
I would take it back to the shop as they suggested.
I'm not the biggest fan of this scent but it isn't weak.
I don't get the SMW and MI being that similar - suggest you retry.
All those you listed are pretty good except OS which isn't IMO. Check out Santal Imperial instead.
Infact, as mrcologneguy...
Micallef's are a good suggestion. Vanille Aoud is beautiful.
Maybe also look at Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Oud.
Ooh, interesting. Any other suggestions or comments on currently available oils aside from that of Aqua Oleum?
Ooh, hard decision. Get SMW first them Tabarome later :)
SMW is easier as an everyday fragrance if that's a consideration for you?
If it's easily affordable for you then yes go for it. Even if you don't like it you'll get to experience a pretty unique fragrance - probably the last one from YSL. If not I suggest you sample first.
Another set of MFK's that I'll enjoy but not quite enough to buy? We'll see. Looking forward to trying them.
Thanks for the heads-up mikesc.
La Nuit De L'homme by far for daily high school use.
I think it's a lovely little cheapie. Works well in summer/hot weather. Everyone's taste is different I suppose. IMO "you've been warned" isn't really warranted in this case.
I look forward to the butchery of one of my favourites........
Hope I'm wrong of course.
Anyone else having problems with Basenotes over the last few days?
It's gone down for me a few times (not for long though) and the pages are currently taking 30 secs plus to respond.
Yes. It projects clean and smells nice.
Even if you get dirty notes from it, others in your vicinity will have a totally different experience. That is if they even smell it, as it sits relatively...
SMW is pretty good. There's lot's I like. The opening blast of Cuir Mauresque is pretty amazing IMO. LK's Revo is also great.
Haha cacio - always with the "bilge" you poor bugger :)
I like the one Kaelee came up with - holographic fragrances.
I think Kaelee has started a new descriptor - "holographic" fragrances :)
Thanks Stew, will be interested to try this.
Seems reasonable. I used to like it pre-fragrance-obsession days but the more fragrances I smell the more I dislike the smell of Issey. A bit odd really...
Excellent, thanks guys. Time to get testing :)
Still having issues with this.
Started the following thread which has multiple replies but I only received one email notification of a response....
A very good point RP. I hadn't even thought of these sorts of fragrances as linear.
Also some Lutens to try:
Un Bois Vanille
Amber Absolute maybe?
Replaces the herbs in AS with resinous and incense notes.
I'd love to read any impressions of the new range.
Anyone tried one or all of the six?

This one too, if a little off topic:...
I've suddenly found myself enjoying vetiver, actually I've started craving it.
What is it with these odd fragrance cravings?
Anyway, I'm curious to find recommendations for vetiver + iris dominant...
Pomegranate Noir projects big time. I used to work with a woman that wore it and she'd fume out the whole office!
I absolutely understand why linear fragrances are popular but I generally find them boring. I like fragrances that keep me entertained with changes throughout the day.
Mens is similar to womens but they don't smell the same. Really dislike this frag now. As noirdrakkar suggests try the sport version.
Interesting fragrance this one. From very early impressions I'd say it more in the vein of Noir Patch, Mona Oud or UFdC than MKK or any other musk. A different take on a dirty floral if you will. I...
Can you elaborate? Not sure what you mean....
It lasts a long time for me too. Perhaps olfactory fatigue is the problem?
Gees, what kind of collection do you have to find that obscure frag!? Me jealous :)
Perhaps they copied Bal d'Afrique? Apparently they both smell like Vetiver Tonka though. Haven't tried it myself.
Are "ephemeral editions" the export bottles? I've not come across the term before.
Damn, sad to miss this - sounds great. I'll be in Melb soon but sadly too late :(
I second socalwoman's call - show us the pics :)
Great if you enjoy stand alone ambers. In an olfactory sense it sits somewhere between a classic amber smell like AP and a modern resinous smell like AS and AA.
Probably a singular or combination of aroma chemicals. MFK frags for example all have a smooth/fuzzy signature. Might be worth posting something on the DIY board if you're really curious. Chris...
Why does this comparison come up relatively often?
The houses scents aren't alike. I don't see the cross over that drives the comparison.
I don't understand the price issue. Is Byredo more expensive in the UK? The $/ml here is lower than many other e.g. Lutens and Malle.
No difference as far as I can remember.
Really excellent, thanks Brian. Where did you guys end up with this comparison? Curious as I have MKK and MT (blind) on the way but have not smelled real deer musk.
More or less sums it up for me. Caravelle Epicee is the only one i'd want to wear. Disappointing line on the whole.
Alfa - thank you soo much for arranging this.
I'm still digesting this so I won't comment too much yet but I do understand the references to MR and LADDM. There is the strong herbal kick of other...
Thanks alfa. Looks interesting.
Not sure what to say about the whole secret addition. I haven't tried it yet but may do so once I've had some time to digest the fragrance as-is.
Same here. You can't judge the line by this one fragrance. There's many many gems in this line. Try and test them all if you can.
Otherwise we might be able to suggest some if you explain what you...
Cool, thanks lotto
Any further thoughts on this one?
Is there other similar fragrances e.g. Muscs Koublai Khan or Bal a Versailles?
I'm thinking of going blind on this one (because I like both musky and leathery...
As a couple of others have suggested comparing a fragrance to the smoke is a bit useless. Try and get some oils and see what you think.
I don't think there's any hard and fast rules - just try different variations and go with those you like best.
I'd say you really need to try quality oud from various origins to get a feel for the different profiles and therefor decide which you want to use. You'll get a feel for quality pretty quickly. Agar...
I don't always melt but yep it came to my mind too.
There's been discussions before on BN and the consensus seemed to be that there had been some changes/reforms over time.
MKK a little but more so SM and UNTITLED #8 :) Vintage Bal EDC is also right up there.
Ooh and some of the funkier ouds when I first started and didn't know what to expect.
Ooh (totally belated reply) Micallef is lovely. I'll have to try Jaliane, thanks Perszona.
Jealous! I'd settle for one vintage bottle myself.
Somehow I never really found love for the EDP, I'm a bit sensitive to balm/linament type notes and always found this overpowering in Opium (especially the EDP).
Wow, I'm surprised Jaipur even got close. Much prefer Egoiste myself but J is very nice.
