Frederic Malle par Estee Lauder =(
How niche are niche fragrances?
Looking to sell:
Frederic Malle Bigarade Concentree 100ml 55% full $130 shipping waived
Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady 100ml 75% full
Tam Dao EDP 75ml, used 6 sprays used only with box; $125 ...
how does purity of alcohol affect the juice?
The higher the more volatile?
Guys, EU is going to ban Oakmoss and other ingredients. This means reformulations and Frederic Malle has said that...
So apparently his EDTs are around 14% and EDP around 18%
Just wanted to start a catch all thread for designer houses that have an upscale niche line.
I hope also to differentiate between the must tries and the trashy jump on the wagon and charge premium...
Wow... you guys have very deep pockets.
How many sprays do you guys use?
I am aware that concentration is 18%
Amouage Interlude Man
Amouage Jubilation XXV
Absolue Pour le Sour
D&G The One
Where to buy at $125 with good and un-stale quality?
Check out Sa Sa and Bonjour for designer fragrances first.
Does Leather Oud or Oud Wood fit the bill?
Now, nothing even more expensive than the MFK mind you..
I sniffed the opening of it today! I haven't tried it enough to comment. Opening is boozy but a bit feminine too. How long does it last btw?
Fragrance is built around the to emphasise the Oud note.
I.e Amouage has oud, but is more a cacophony of notes.
I'll check out the Kilian line. Not too strong are they?
Thats the issue. Its barely there for that one and you can only detect it at the late drydown.
Reminds me of Amouage Reflection/ YSL L'homme opening with a synthetic 'precious woods' sweet drydown....
Just wondering if you guys have a good alternative to MFK's Oud.
Ok. I already have powerhouses like Portrait of a Lady, Amouage Interlude Man, and also Epic Man (looking to sell this if anyone...
+1 to this.. The opening is really close to YSL L'Homme and drydown is fresh, musky woods. Fresher than Code though.
I get no oud nor milk chocolate. Perhaps its the sweet musky woods in this...
Any comments on the EDP? Longevity?
the incensey panty dropper! Geishas fall weak on their knees upon sniffing the Epic Ravaguer!
ok lets expand the question. Any preference over one of em? Lets establish that both are dark, barely any fruits and last a long time =)
I don't disagree.
But let's focus on no fruit, dark, slightly animalistic. That's where I see similarities.
Is it just me. Or are there many similarities between Epic and Musc Rav?
Epic is drier and more harsh but both are animalic and have a sweetish drydown.
What do you think?
Have a used 3.4 if you still looking
Amouage Honour Man
Frederic Malle Noir Epices, this I'm looking to sell actually
Gucci pour homme 1
Chanel Allure Original (might be too sweet)
Or any perfumer at that! I read that you met with Christopher Chong the man himself!
In Basenotes, or any fragrance community, we probably will not own a scent that people identify us to due to the...
Well, not necessarily, I love musc ravageur,
Bigarade concentree, POAL, carnal flower, appreciate gpm and VE.
I just notice their focus on florals and if masculines then very dry green...
I have a few things on sale that you are interested in.
Carnal Flower 100ml, 90% full with box $310 shipping waived
Noir Epices 100ml, 95% full with box $240 shipping waived
Portrait of a Lady...
Hi, I have Amouage Epic Man, 100ml 1-2% used @ $255
I have Noir Epices on sale. 95% full $240. Shipping will be waived.
Amouage is a great house!
For the fragrances I have, most have insane projection among application but dry down to a close to the body, polite projection within 4 hours.
Jubilation is dried...
If you follow FM's product brief, you will notice that his fragrances are not for everyone and that one may like one fragrance but not the other mainly because there is no theme or synopsis for the...
I like Portrait of a Lady a lot and Musc Raveguer, but I am appalled that they are charging EUR320 for POAL and EUR214 for Musc Ravageur at the Joyce in Hong Kong, this is at least 30-40%% higher...
To me, Aventus is more pleasant and easy to like. The "you smell fresh and good!" type of compliments, quite western in construction.
Wore Timbuktu yesterday and I got a best compliment ever....
interesting observation. not looking at sycomore yet because i have VE, another vetiver frag - perhaps I'll take a whiff of it this weekend.
During the colder months, I suspect really pulling out...
Tried Sycomore which is nice. I categorise more of a smoky vetiver though, something between an encre noire and Vetiver Extraordinaire (which I own). A close comparison perhaps will be Terre...
Both have woody and earthy notes so fits quite well for a summer transition to fall type of frag.
Aventus seems more pleasing to others but you can argue that it is easily liked yet that makes it...
Which would you pick?
Millesime - airy salted melon, but after the top notes there what is left is the sweet, waxy ambergris and not much else
Bigarade Concentree - realistic orange peel/zest,...
This is a very well blended scent and quite natural at that too.
It does smell common place though, the I have smelt this before sort of vibe.
It has the booziness of YSL L'homme, the lemony citrus...
Diptyque Eau Lente
This one is a great one isn't it? Its so simple (like a CK One), with a borderline feminine slant but once the amber kicks in, it feels like you are wrapped and enveloped in a glowing warmth. I find...
Really want to talk about these 2 notes. It is easily differentiable but at the same time it does give me a similar feeling sometimes.
Musk: translucent and slightly gloopy. Seems to give the...
Like this one too.
Wear a white buttoned down shirt after a shower. Very clean feeling to it.
The amber embraces you like a hug.
I'm battling if this is better or my Carnal Flower.
The incense note is similar, so the mid-notes do have similarities. But they go off in different directions, one being thick and resinous then sweet and the other being dirty, sweaty then honeyed...
Saturday: Dior Fahrenheit
Sunday morning: Bigarade concentree and night Spiriteous Double Vanille
Today Geranium Pour Monsuer (back to work!)
what about Musc Ravageur vs DHI?
Any resemblance between this and Prada Amber Intense?
Its pretty much available in Hong Kong actually.
Its not comparable at all.. Different genre.....
Longevity is good (chest or behind ears). It's not a projection beast but last fine for me.
Regret this purchase and looking to sell.
Its nice and transparent, but the boozyness reminds me of the smell of cleaning liquid.
I have no issues with this. 4 sprays a warm weather rose.
More in the formal side of things but it's a beauty.
Would have that there is more love for POAL actually.
Much appreciated guys.
Its super long lasting for me. 1-2 sprays is a lot. The musky undertones last forever.
Where did you apply the frag?
Also, the analogies of paintings is not complete. You can use subpar materials for a painting and still it can be beautiful, artistic and expensive. Why? Because it is it is composed beautifully....
This really is a farce. Ok, I agree with his comments on JCE, but that is only personal opinion not fact, in this case I agree with him that less is not always more. Also, its really ironic that he...
wow the tide has turned!
Really well written buddy.
Really good point.
He does have a point, as the end user and laymen, we really don't know the entire process.
Haha, kind of reminds me of my profession though! My clients only cares about the final result and not...
How do you rate projection, longevity between other FM?
Projection like vetiver extraordinaire / Hiver?
Seasons and application?
More a mood scent?
Like it but not sure if I love it. Any one here can encourage me to buy this and that I will wear this frequently enough (you guys have a change of heart)?
Une Rose from Frederic Malle
To add, I don't really find Eau Lente's opening that off putting actually.. May be I have tried dirtier things like MKK, Musc Rav and Absolue Pour le Soir..
Just went and spent my coupon.
The L'artisan line was really limited but I got Fou d Absinthe and Diptyque's and L'Ombre dans l'Eau. I hope I will grab for FdA during hotter weather...
Hahaha that means I should have Timbuktu, Dzongkha, Kyoto, Epic, Jubiliation, Avignon all in my collection!?
Thanks for the feedback!
I do have Amouage Epic and Jubiliation and CdG incense series under my consideration also.
If that is the case, will Timbuktu be a better fit
(I like this more than...
Which do you prefer and why?
How are their projection and longevity?
Really appreciate your help
Timbuktu is a nice frag. Very woody and smokey. Somehow this to me smells more suitable for a room than on a person though. The...
Thanks guy these are good primers.
Some of these I really wanna try. I personally like sensual frags and I am ok with powder (Dior Homme)
For winter orientals I like vanilla amber or resinous...
To add, is L'Artisan more like a skin -scent line?
Any one can provide me with a primer here?
Just got a coupon that says if I spend $250 USD I get $65 off at Joyce Hong Kong.
I already have most of the Frederic Malles and MFKs and have yet to...
Its actually quite insightful.
How Pierre Bourdon's Iris Poudre was the first of the line and why it was the first.
Because he didn't want anyone to copy his frags again and therefore chose a...
Frederic Malle's French Lover or Noir Epices
How does this compare to Spiriteuos Double Vanille.. Both have boozy notes and have a vanilic drydown..
Any know of a a boozy frag (Michael for Men, SDV) but dries to a heavy amber base rather...
Really like the musc in Dans Tes Bras from the Frederic Malle line but don't think I want to pay so much $ for a close to the skin musk scent.
I have MR for the winter for a musc frag.
Its really nice. Love it a lot but I think Musc Ravageur is more me to be honest.
I guess I prefer vanilla over honey and like DiamondFlame I think it a harsh ride before the final drydown....
Who do you think is a better nose?
Both can make super transparent fragrances and yet Francis can also make power bombs.
My pick is Francis Kurkdjian.
!! didn't know they are based in HK!
You have no idea how much cheaper I get my fragrances compared to you guys.... niche or designers.
Anyone read this one?
"Have you ever walked down Madison Avenue, stumbled...
You find GPM strong?
You can see my wardrobe now.
Guerlain Tonka Imperiale.
Between MR and DHI which do you guys prefer?
Spray behind the ears and chest and neck.
It reminds me of Chanel Allure Edition Blanche and Frederic Malle's Leau D'Hiver.
Interesting... I think this discussion would be very different if all of you can get it at the price that I am buying at.
True, I won't pay USD300 something for this. For that I'll get Noir de Noir.
+1 totally agree.
Why is it that all are mentioning Amouage to be super expensive. I can get a bottle of Lyric 100ml in Hong Kong for USD155 which isn't bad at all for niche.
Try Portrait of a Lady and Lumiere Noire Pour Homme
I really like Lyric. I started the rose collection with Une Rose FM which is the most realistic take on rose but something I gave to my mom because I did'nt associate when to wear it (rosebush in...
Musc Rav I am not sure. Really depends if I wake up early before my boss comes to work :)
I am more to the existing stuff I have in my collection.
I know that you should wear what you like for work.
But I work at a very conservative environment (finance) and don't want to end up annoying people.
In my collection, what would you wear to work...
Love the boozy notes of SDV, I don't really get the tobacco here as much as the booze and vanilla.
Tom Ford is a projection beast, but I think its a tad more masculine.
