Taste of Heaven is so comforting but uplifting at the same time. So well blended!
I love this fragrance. It smells like a newly opened pouch of cherry pipe tobacco and lasts so well. In my top five easily.
Although some of the older perfume houses have a stable of classics which may or may not appeal to current tastes, they continue to influence some of the niche perfumes. I'm thinking now of how Pour...
Blended with Tuscan Leather it is a dream of a fragrance. The raspberry of the TL softens the initial blast of raw patchouli and the leather is accentuated on the drydown. I believe that Patchouli...
My favourite Tom Ford. I've just gone back and bought a flacon.
Francis Kurkdjian seems to be a master of these type of scents. His limited release for Patrick Cox has the clean smell of fresh bread which always reminds me of clean linen.
I walked into Fenwick's in Newcastle today to try this but their testers were not due in til next week. So I bit the bullet and bought a 50mls bottle.
This stuff is an ode to patchouli. I love...
It appears to have sold out now. I'm pleased I managed to get this. Very similar to Gucci pour Homme but somewhat richer and creamier. I hope Bentley keep on surprising us with such quality...
I've just won an auction for Rocabar and Eau d'Hermes (half full) and a 3/4 full bottle of Francis K's perfume for Patrick Cox which I believe is lovely and quite rare. I also picked up a full bottle...
I have just managed to pick this up as a joblot together with some Hermes Rocabar, Eau d'Hermes (both about half full) and a full bottle of Patou pour Homme Prive. Looking forward to trying it.
Longevity and projection are both good. They might be better but I also received Black Afgano today which tends to predominate to say the least!
I bought this blind from the Jack Perfume website as I was intrigued by the notes and Richard E Grant's personal journey. He actually sounds like a real basenoter.
There is a blast of citrus at...
Love it! Love it! Love it! Any offers considered,
Small world indeed!
eBay does come up trumps some times. I was just browsing the other day and saw a 50ml of By Man for a buy it now price of £32.50. I was a bit suspicious but believed the 50mls to be legit and so...
and in quieter moments the understated Kouros!
I'll give that a go
After Shaves can be very hit and miss. At worst they are pale shadows of the EDT and require the nose of a bloodhound to detect them a few hours after applying. At best, they become almost a second...
I am bidding on it at the moment. The bottle looks like an interesting addition to any perfume collection plus if the fragrance inside is like the EDP I will be very happy!
Question solved, very interesting article. Any comments appreciated:
I noticed this on ebay and wondered whether this was a limited edition or an earlier version of Habit Rouge? Could anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks for your kind wishes everyone. Off out for a meal soon with Odin 07 on board!
I love the EDT and wear it often. However, the EDP is smoother and richer. It appears to soften the top notes and accentuate the basenotes to a really pleasing degree.
Having recently turned 50, I was taken to Nice by my lovely wife and was unleashed on the joys of the Cote D'Azur (see the France section for my review of a superb shop in Nice).
I bought Odin 07...
I have just returned from Nice and there is an independent shop called Tanagra on Rue Alphonse Karr. They stock the usual French and international names but also stock great niche items: Killian,...
That is the concentree version. The original pour Monsieur ( a completely different animal) is widely available in France.
I received the lovely gift today and have finally managed to test it as my wife has so far monopolised its use.
The top notes are so fresh and capture both the sweetness and bitterness of orange...
I agree that the unobtainable fragrances acquire a mythical quality where magical notes are talked about in reverential tones. The fragrance world has blossomed over the last twenty years with all...
Please add me in. Thank you.
Thanks so much! I look forward to receiving this,
I really enjoyed the process of sampling and feeding back. I found the all the perfumes to be unique and yet reminiscent of others...just the odd breath here and there. All in all a great...
It does well on both counts. I get about six hours on the skin and it is still evident on clothes the day after. Projection is also good but more subtle than the original Santos as befits a sports...
I managed to pick this one up recently off ebay for a ridiculously cheap £19 and I agree with jenson. This is a very complex fragrance which evolves into a mossy, floral and tobacco drydown which...
Thanks guys! I am enjoying it more by the minute.
I have been thinking of buying this for some time but have been a bit put off by all the talk of reformulations. However, I was browsing eBay and thought I would put in a cheeky bid for 100mls. It...
Hermes Bel Ami
Guerlain Habit Rouge
Dior Eau Sauvage
Chanel Pour Monsieur
Caron pour un Homme
I recently bought Givaudan EDT pour homme on eBay (75mls) for £1. I have contacted Givaudan but have heard nothing. I have now had a chance to try it and I am pleasantly surprised. It is a typical...
A 3/4 full bottle of Cuiron EDC amongst a job lot of other frags for a combined price of £3.40- that has been my most amazing bargain on eBay. Retail wise I managed to find an outlet store selling Le...
Well I won this for £1 and it is between 50 and 75mls. I will report back when I receive it. It could be a gem or a dud but for a £1 it's worth the gamble!
There is a bottle of this for sale on eBay but I can find no trace of this on the internet or in Perfume Intelligence. Has anyone heard of this?
It does seem a high price to pay. I was browsing through eBay the other day and noticed that there are very few bargains to be had. I remember picking up Cuiron for £30 and a Patou pour Homme...
In no order:
Chanel pour Monsieur
Caron pour un Homme
Has anyone heard of the above? It sounds intriguing....
Hi to everyone here and thanks again for Wooznib's generosity.
Here are my thoughts:
Cathedral in Flames
I love the fresh top notes on this which are unexpected considering the name. I...
I have received the samples today and will trial them very shortly. Thanks everyone!
The line is called Yardley Citrus and Woods. It should come up on Google. I'm not sure what you mean by name of the story.
I was in an out of the way retail park yesterday and while I was waiting for my wife, I saw an island full of Yardley products. I thought I would take a look and see if there were any discontinued...
+1 definitely a soothing scent.
Reading through the list of winners makes the world of perfume seem a very small place. I know that these are industry awards but the recipients of the main awards are predictable and dare I say it...
Thanks for the feedback!
I would love to participate if possible. It's not often you get a chance to be involved in something so exciting!
bel ami- citrus and leather
Bel Ami Vintage
Thanks for the replies. The price is so cheap on eBay, it is probably worth a go!
Does this belie its tacky look? I am intrigued by its notes which read like a classic from the 80s but its reviews seem split between great and ghastly. There seem to be a few appearing on eBay and...
I agree that it is one of the most instantly recognisable fragrances (just like Kouros) and is definitely one of a kind.
I love oakmoss especially when it is expertly blended as in Derby and Chanel pour Monsieur
Gucci Pour Homme
Les Senteurs are good for niche. Diptyque will post samples. Depending on where you are in the North, there are some good department stores who carry a large range of designer and niche. Fenwicks...
Vintage Versace l'Homme- that drydown mmmmmm........
There appears to be some selling of fragrances (admittedly not very good ones in fact extremely ghastly ones) on some of our home shopping channels. Does this also go on in the States? I just...
The one thing I remember about Eucris is moss and lots of it. A creamy but dark scent.
Thanks for that. I might have to find a bottle as I love the sandalwood drydown.
Is this just a more concentrated version of Egoiste or are there any differences between this and the original? I am assuming that if it is just a concentrated version the concentration is on the...
In my opinion Egoiste is by far their best men's scent. Absolutely gorgeous and unique.
Herba Fresca is a beautifully done mint fragrance which also manages to capture a hint of freshly mown grass. A great one to wear on a summer's day!
It is difficult to sample all the new releases but I am a regular visitor to the many large department stores in my area (one of which carries the whole Tom Ford Range, Armani Prive and...
That's always the problem. When I am at work, my phone needs to be turned off and I am unable to use the computer for personal stuff and so the only time I find out is when it is too late.
We have all done it I'm sure.....looked at eBay, seen something, thought too good to be true, put in a bid and then forgot about it until you see that it actually went for a reasonable price, one...
PuH is a beautiful fragrance. However, Habit Rouge and Derby are sublime!
You are right to include Gucci PH, M7 and TdH- all very original and revolutionary for their time but of these three only TdH seems to be going strong. Gucci PH and M7 seem to be being...
Hermes Bel Ami
I was in the fragrance department of Fenwicks yesterday and started to think about how much is out there at the moment. There seem to be flankers of flankers and every designer (however obscure)...
Any basenoters able to give me a headsup with what's available in Faro?
+ Piper Nigrum
Also a brilliant patchouli fragrance - Patchouli Noir by Il Profumo. This is a mix of earthy patchouli with a faint floral background which lasts and lasts.
I have always wondered why Chanel tried to link these two fragrances. They are so unlike each other and, by the way, Egoiste is the best by far!
Thanks for all the responses guys. This just gets better and better!
About a month ago I began to reassess my collection and decided to sell some items which I love but hardly wear anymore (Cuiron, Equipage) and then decided to keep the fragrances which I prize from...
I am sorry to say that it is only Egoiste. When I used to wear it in my youth it was L'Egoiste and was available in the UK. It still smells as i remember it in my youth.
I found it yesterday in Fenwicks in Newcastle and bought a 100ml bottle for £59. I have no idea why they only stock it in Fenwicks and Selfridges and yet the inferior Platinum is everywhere!
It must have been the subliminal effect of the forum but I found myself wandering into the Chanel salon in Fenwicks in Newcastle yesterday. I sniffed my way through the exclusifs as usual (always...
Habit Rouge - a scent which is perfect in every way
Bel Ami - a scent which seems to envelop you like a warm glove
Cuiron - in my opinion the best evocation of suede/ leather in a bottle
In no particular order:
Chanel pour Monsieur
Acqua Di Parma
Gucci Pour Homme
Try Donna Karan's Essence Labdanum for a true rendering of labdanum. great for layering as well!
I will be joining you today in this choice. It seems so apt for today- luxurious and lovely. Merry Christmas to all basenoters!
I'm joining Petruccijc today. haven't worn this for some time and had forgotten how well-blended it is!
Versace The Dreamer. Of all my fragrances this is the one which receives the most compliments.
Another outing for Derby
Tiffany for men- a cousin to Chanel pour Monsieur Concentree
I know all the Gucci Nobile fans now have an alternative but I was wondering whether there is anything like Cuiron. I love this scent but I am now running low and would love to try an alternative.
Derby....what a scent!
Some more updates re Fenwicks. We Northerners are now getting the fragrance attention we deserve. Fenwicks now carry the whole Tom Ford Line (all the blends) as well as the Armani Prive scents as...
And a rather exciting update.... Fenwicks now have Chanels Exclusifs range, they also have a Kiehls section and there is also a SpaceNK not far from Fenwicks. Enjoy your shopping trip!
It maintains a patchouli earthiness but this mingles with a softer vanilla/ floral note (unlike the sweet chocolate of other patchoulis) which seems to both temper and complement the original...
