Yeah, good call. Especially Le Male. A real love of hate!

Yeah, good call. Especially Le Male. A real love of hate!
I wouldn't wear either myself, too sweet :(
I think, if we're honest, fragrances like Bleu de Chanel and Paco Rabanne 1 Million will be classics of our time. Aventus will remain a timeless classic among everyone, those that remember it as an...
The only one I have had the privilege of trying is V, which I love. I found a brand new bottle on eBay for £120...great deal.
It was Terre D'Hermes back when I started. EVERYONE was mental about it!
Really don't get the similarity with PE. Infact, I don't get PE at all, really not a fan.
Love A&F, will soon try this other one.
Another in a similar vein would be Cereus no. 7, in my opinion.
YSL just pips Chanel for me. Both have some great stuff. Every YSL fragrance is decent, some are classics.
For me, with Back to Black, there is a fine line between perfect application and over-application. Too much and it's very cloying until the top notes are subdued.
For me, the base of Back to...
I hate to admit it, I wouldn't wear a celebrity fragrance due to the fact that it is a celebrity fragrance. The label does matter to me, unfortunately. That's why I wear GIT not CW, I can't really...
I wear what I like, but I don't tend to like female marketed fragrance in general. (Chanel no.19 being and exception.)
I can definitely see your point of view on this note. I didn't enjoy it until recently. Now it has started to hit me nicely.
Thanks for your suggestions. I've had Roadster on my list of things to...
Invasion Barbare should be in every man's collection (if it were cheaper).
The Britney Spears fragrances almost make me physically sick. I'm not saying they're that bad, but they are certainly over-applied more than any other fragrance in the history of the world.
I find with this "hobby" that I tend to drift in and out of it from time to time. I always get brought back to it my smelling somebody wearing something relatively rare and thinking to myself, "hey,...
Bois du Portugal
Agree! It's definitely barbershop to start with, great barbershop. But then it mellows to something rougher and less "clean" in a sense. Not at all like shaving foam, just natural top top fougere. It...
My long overdue first full wearing of this scent today. Have to admit, I really like it. An epic manly scent which deserves its reputation.
Good taste from Nersh, yet again!
I've never understood people avoiding certain frags because they deem them too overpowering. Just use one or two sprays, create a mist in front of you and walk...
Grey Vetiver and Invasion Barbare
Aventus is by far my favourite fragrance. EVERYONE loves this stuff. My mum, old women, random blokes and even my own girlfriend have complemented me on it. I've even complemented myself on it,...
This is how I rate the SMW clones:
Montale Boise Fruite
Creed Silver Mountain Water
It's probably worth the $5 to try Al-Rehab's Silver, I can't really tell...
I ended up selling my bottle after going on and on and on and on about how good it was, especially vs. Pure Malt (both the same-ish price here). The reason I sold it was down to the 4hr longevity....
Probably not the best reason to buy it if you just don't mind it. L'Instant De Guerlain Extreme is a better fragrance in my opinion. They are worlds apart in style, I'm not sure where you could try...
Aventus, Dior Homme Intense and Fierce are the worst I've found for this. I dread to think how strong I must have smelled at some points whilst unable to smell it on myself!
All of the best ones have been mentioned!
Does anyone else get a barbershop vibe from the drydown of Bigarade Concentrée? I need to try it again to make sure, but I think it goes there on its...
Absolutely stunning choice, this one!
Spiritueuse Double Vanille
+1 on OS, just because it's versatile and you'll get some good wearings from it. I'd most like MR, but I rarely wear it because I don't find it appropriate a lot of the time.
First ever full wearing of Pure Malt today!
I'm not sure any of these are special enough for a wedding day. Of course, your special may be different to mine. Go with the one you find special :) I'd probably buy a one off fragrance for my...
Mine. Roughly in order, top being my favourite.
MDCI Invasion Barbare
Guerlain Tonka Imperiale
Hermes Vetiver Tonka
Dior Homme and Dior Homme Intense...
What does it smell like? Welcome to Basenotes!!
If you plan on trying any of these fragrances, do yourself a favour and go for Invasion Barbare first. THE perfect scent for an alpha male executive.
To see if your batch is any good simply spray it and smell it. If you like it, it's good!!
I must have read/seen a similar explanation to you. The way I see it is; sillage = "scent trail" and projection = strength of smell from a distance. :)
+1. By far the better fragrance and an essential component of a basic collection. A basic, smoky, well done vetiver. Body Kouros pretty much fades into obscurity for me.
Not really a...
p.s isn't "passing by" the same as sillage?
I mentioned it's similarities to Fierce before but I've not heard anyone else make this comparison, until now (see this thread #13). I'm totally with you on your assessment :)
+1. Although tastes can change! My number one is timeless though - Invasion Barbare <3
My note was from Alison :)
It took one prolonged try which lasted about two weeks. I emailed asking for some specific samples, they pointed me in the direction of the 17 Euros for X amount of samples which Birdboy48 is talking...
I think if I were to buy a bottle of Black Aoud it'd probably last me a lifetime. It's just so strong! I'm thinking about 5ml decants of most of them :)
Bvlgari Aqva, Allure Homme Sport, PdN Carré d'As, Geir Ness, Bleu de Chanel...
L'eau D'Issey was too weak?
Thanks for the informative post :) I was kinda joking though. I feel bad now.
Wow, hope you like it now I made you try it. Haha, I'm sure you will though!
More info. please :)
When was it reformulated? Have I missed something?
1) Of the list below, which is your absolute favorite fragrance?
There are some brilliant perfumes on your list, good decisions! My absolute favourite of the bunch is 1725. I know you'll like it!...
David Beckham is a national legend, the greatest (English) football player of all time (excluding Bobby Moore, of course)!
Midlands (UK): without a doubt Boss Bottled. A distant second is 1 Million.
Interestingly enough, as a Basenoter with impeccable taste (), I have a soft spot for both of these fragrances...
C&S Cuba sucks! (so does Black Aoud) :rolleyesold:
It's extremely popular in the UK.
More iris would be cool :)
EVERYONE here stinks of this stuff, EVERYONE!
Whilst I agree, I also think some are suited to specific times/occasions.
I pretty much use Aventus as my main day to day casual scent.
A 10ml decant of something is going to last me months. It's therefore in my rotation long enough for me to put in my wardrobe.
Frederic Malle just sent me five requested samples for free. It was like getting blood from a stone at first, but I ground them down - LOL!
Gucci Rush ph was better too :(
1. Creed Aventus
2. Cereus no.7
3. MDCI Invasion Barbare
4. Guerlain Tonka Imperiale
5. HdP 1725
6. Guerlain SDV
7. Frederic Malle Musc Ravaguer
8. Amouage Lyric Man
It's pretty good, yes!
Do they even fake 30mls?
It only comes in one concentration, I think. From what I've heard it's more concentrated than an edT, they call it a Millesime :)
Generally PdN seriously lacks longevity from my experience. I haven't tried New York from a sample (they sent me "test strips"). My Carre d'As doesn't last long, but at the price I can afford to...
It's certainly a must try if you're to be a Basenoter!
I've bought it successfully on eBay twice, you just need to pick your seller. Perhaps ask them a few questions etc. And obviously there's the shop in London.
In my opinion PE is nothing like...
Aventus, DHI and Terre d'Hermes!
p.s same as Nersh which is getting worrying now :)
It;s all about Tonka Imperiale.
I like everything about it apart from the complexity of it. I love the top notes but think the middle and base are too "niche" for a gourmand of this type.
Just buy it. I bet it's just as good as the original to be honest!
With the greatest of respect; really?!
This smells exactly like the pick'n'mix which used to be in the corner shop of my old street. You'd walk in there and count how many 1p sweets you put in the bag, tell the shopkeeper how many and...
Yeah, I'm feeling that. Where's the "what would 007 wear?" thread when you need it?
I'd defo wear Rose 31 to a wedding. Would suit the service as well as the party :)
Welcome to BN!
I had never heard of this house until today when a free sample arrived with a purchase from a fellow Basenoter. Straight from the nozzle it was very gothic smelling to me, something which I do not...
I have a bottle of both 1725 and Sartorial and a decant of IB on the way. I'm sure you're well aware of how much I am loving this genre at the moment.
I think my favourite might actually be 1725,...
I've bought MANY partial bottles, mostly from the marketplace here. I've always been happy with my purchases, particularly with the price. You still get that feeling when opening up your package, you...
Vintage petruccijc! LOL.
I've received two negative coments in the last three days:
Dior Homme Intense: " you smell like your grandma "
New Haarlem: " who's sweating garlic "
I think Bleu is more liked than you might think, to be honest. It seems a lot of people dislike it to begin with but warm to it as time goes by. Personally, I neither like or dislike it.
First thing I did when I joined Basenotes was buy a full bottle of Terre d'Hermes. Second thing I did was sell it.
Please sample :)
Parfum de Nicolai Carré d'As
Also sampling both Vetiver Tonka and Guerlain SDV. Both 10/10!
Aventus is a weird one for me. Sometimes I can smell it on myself 10 hours later, other times I can't smell it after 3 hours. When I stop being able to smell it I still receive compliments on it,...
Fierce is the fragrance that got me started on Basenotes and "the journey". No matter how far I delve into niche, with all those fancy pancy ingredients, I still come back to Fierce. So what if it's...
I find it perfectly wearable for a man, no problems.
Personally, if I were going to buy a Guerlain it'd be SDV which is just slightly more beautiful than TI, in my opinion.
p.s Vetiver Tonka...
Black Aoud is the only one for me.
