    Re: Free Fragrance Composition Software

I also get an access denied error when attempting to add to the inventory. Just a guess, it looks as though the installer doesn't apply the correct permissions to the data file when installing.

Re: Small note on natural perfumes

Thanks for the insight DrSmellThis. I work with only naturals and my first attempt took a few months to develop nicely. When you say mature longer - how long are you talking about? Months, years?

    Re: Where do I begin?

I found The Encyclopaedia of Essential Oils by Julia Lawless very helpful for some basic information on naturals. It's not the most perfume oriented book but it's nice and concise and was available...

Is this still running at all? Noticed the last post is six months old. Perhaps this thread should be archived?

Sounds as though they're true flowers. In case you're interested : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bract
I'll keep hunting around for what this is - because it's bugging me.

Are the flowers a true flower or are they bracts (or similar). They look sort of waxy in the photo - are they tough or soft?

Re: How exactly does one learn their materials?

My apologies, I didn't make it clear when I said 'smell' the materials from unlabelled vials I meant using strips. I suggested decanting into smaller vials so you can leave them unlabelled without...

Re: complete newbie, which starter kit please.

Good plan, I did the same thing until I couldn't wait anymore and I found that I needed a smell to go with all the terms I was learning. I started by visiting a perfumer in Melbourne that had a scent...

Re: complete newbie, which starter kit please.

Please let us know how you get on Thomash, would love to know how the Mysore Sandalwood smells. Fee free to check out my link below - I may be able to help you fill some of the gaps in your naturals.
  14. Re: Interested in trying Mysore Sandalwood oil as a fragrance, what to expect?

I can't tell if anyone is still interested in the original topic but I just wanted to mention that I've recently purchased from Mt Romance in Western Australia both Santalum album and spicata. I find...

Formulas for commercial perfumes are mostly top secret and with the vast list of available materials for perfumery may not help you create a better fragrance. The best way to get a better...

    Re: Fragrance notes confusion

Materials may sit at different levels of the pyramid (top, middle, base) depending on what else is in the blend, but it also comes down to volatility. High volatility will usually mean it's higher up...
  17. Re: How to stop fooling around with a formula and leave it alone?

I don't really see anything wrong with modification as long as you keep the original batch (and formula) to compare your modifications too. If you're in the modify mood then make a larger batch and...
  18. Re: Out with it.. what is the worst blend you have ever made?

Re: How exactly does one learn their materials?

If you're unable to find someone to help you with blind testing, simply make up some tiny vials (1ml or 2ml) of everything you have or perhaps just 10 materials without labels. Smell them one by one...

Re: Notes that have a sparkling/tingling effect

I know you've asked for aromachemical suggestions but I've found that Cinnamon Bark at 10% dilution is great for lifting a blend.

You could have a quick look through the two sticky threads on IFRA standards to see if you can find the answer to your question. Are you looking for certain materials in particular?
