Patou PH Prive
Van Cleef & Arpels PH.
Patou PH Prive.
Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree
Patou PH Prive.
Acqua di Gio PH.
hmm...... not bad.
dude, if you think Guerlain Vetiver is an angel, then VE is an Archangel. VE is even more heavenly and bright, slightly better than GV in my opinion. EN, in comarison, is indeed a little...
Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree:
Opium PH by YSL
Opium pour Homme by YSL
Guerlain L'instant PH.
feeling the same here:thumbsup: I do agree the perception of a scent evolves, but the extend that has been reached here on BN is just incomprehensible! "urine note", "fecal note", ... what...
in no particular order;
Van Cleef & Arpel PH
Chanel Pour Monsieur & Concentree
Freddie Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire
Lalique Encre Noire...
Thanks scentemental. That's a great write up. I will have to admit it is a little too profound for a simple dude like me;).
From reading other people's comments, I got an impression that...
so only NEW fragrance are eligible for "masterpiece" then?
Great thread. need to study closely.
hey thanks for the thread, somehow it slipped from my search for vetiver.
One thing I almost have the same conclustion as the OP of that thread is: so far Guerlain Vetiver is the best:thumbsup: ...
This is the actual picture:
GV is on the top of the fragrance world.
Polo Double Black
then you may want to venture into:
Vetiver by Guerlain
hehe... we sure smell different things.:-) After ALL these venture in vetiver fragrances, Guerlain Vetiver is still THE KING!
Just got a bottle of Encre Noire. It is close to VE but much milder and rounded, a tad bit sweeter as well. VE wins overall in terms of the feel of true vetiver, transparency, airiness, and...
I bought both blind (again) and sold both. Egoiste is way better than DH. DH is just not my cup of tea, not just too sweet, but a cloying/feminine kind of sweet.
Guerlain L'instant Pour Homme EDT.
if you are looking for a classy good one, here it is:
Équipage by Hermès
Carven Homme certainly makes me happy every time I put it on. Patou PH Prive also makes me happy but I only have small amount of sample and couldn't locate regular bottles.
Guerlain L'instant Pour Homme
dude, it smells worse than urine. It is POOPOO, or politically correct "fecal" smell. you think it is polite? try wear a hefty of it to your job interview.
Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree.
If bad smell means masterpiece, then yes.
Being unique is one thing, but being foul/vulgar/impolite is another.
Carven Homme is supremely good and soft.
I just bought a bottle from Norstrom last week. I guess it should be 2008 version(?)
It is very very good. Yes nothing stand out to strike you as "unique", but it is very well made,...
Well, it is possible or should be that everybody like GV yet we are all different ;)
I bought blind a big bottle of Guerlain Vetiver before Christmas. Didn't like it the first sniff, since that was my very first exposure to vetiver. It smelled dusty and weird to me.
But now ...
I don't think you can get more lemon that YSL Pour Homme:
LV Uomo is extremely complex and intriguing. I used to smell ginger but strangely not anymore, but a hint of pepper. Certainly has vetiver smell as well.
Just got my bottle of Ricci Club Haute. It does smell similar to Patou Prive. The difference is kinda subtle but still makes quite different perception. Patou Prive makes me feel better, a lot...
Any picture of the bottle?
L'homme by YSL:
bought yesterday from Norstrom. Very Nice!
where are you getting Givenchy Vetiver from ?
Ricci Club Haute Concentration.
Rive Gauche Intense.
With due respect, it is the first thing I smell in Egoiste.
Great! I've been looking for a "clone" of Patou Prive.
Thanks for the impression.
Anything smell rotten fruit (Egosite) or nasty (MKK, Kuros). They are simply abomination to my nose.
Yeah it does look like a fake. I happen to have a CW for sale here on BN and have a picture as well --- even the "Cool Water" on the bottle looks different:
haha..... I was turned away by all the negative reviews. Didn't cross my mind to give it a try. Interesting that you think it falls into group 1 while most of the reviews point to the other way.
Thanks Asha. I will check it out.
hehe..... just got my sample PM edt from TPC. Have it on my wrist next to PM Concentree. To my nose, they are very similar. PMC named correctly that it is a condensed version of PM. PMC...
Ok, seems there are indeed different smells of Vetiver. Would be great if they can be categorized somehow, otherwise if vetiver is listed in a pyramid it is meanless (or confusing) to the readers....
My hunch is that Group 1 may be more true to vetiver smell too.
Could it be different kind of vetiver from different region are used for various brands?
I am a little confused. I searched this forum but didn't get much info. I'd like to get expert opinion from you guys.
I have following vetiver fragrances and they smell very different. I...
The one and only:
Carven Homme http://www.basenotes.net/photos/st/26120303.jpg
I tried it at Norstrom last month. It is so sweet that it overwhelmed me. It's the kind of thick, sugary sweetness. Just not my thing.
Totally agree. The OP seems like a newbie with all the beginner's enthusiasm and excitement coming to BN. He should be welcomed, encouraged and nicely guided (e.g. try the beginner thread ), ...
only one for me:
Saturday is good for testing/comparing: :D
Vetiver by Guerlain
Vetiver Oriental by Serge Lutens
Vétiver Extraordinaire by Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle
Pour Monsieur Concentree.
will try Pour Monsieur soon.
hmm..... now you mentioned it. I noticed that Guerlain and Creek are missing from his collection.
 man that's hard core! Enthusiast Extraordinaire
I have both Van Cleef & Arpel PH and Tsar. As a matter of fact, I have one on each wrist as I'm writing this. Both are awesome!
PH and Tsar are kinda similar but have enough difference to tell...
Had lots of meetings today so want to play it nice and safe.
dude, I'll have to admit that I followed your reviews very closely and they are all spot on. VCA and Tsar are also happily in my possession.
But I don't see much new reviews from...
not sure you are illiterate or not, but you certainly can't take a joke.
Isn't No.1 the most expensive fragrance in the world?
He didn't named it "No.1" for nothing !
Tiffany for Men.
All I can see is... MAN you got a sweet taste!!! Don't you feel a little too famine or cloying?
Thanks Snafoo! I have a sample of PMC and like it a lot. It indeed smells very much like Tiffany for Men. Which triggers my interest in PM the original version. I've ordered a sample of PM...
Burberry London for Men.
Brief search in eBay revealed two versions Chanel PM ( not Concentree ). Do anybody know what's the difference?
Green colored: 3.3 oz
Buy it blind. You won't be disappointed.
That's my experience.
That's the first thing came into my mind. Polo Explorer is a perfect fit!
BdP is awesome! It's like you have a F430 in your garage but only take it out during sunny weekends onto a winding country road. Special is the key word I think.
LOL. dude everybody has different taste. From what I gather, you might prefer ES over PM ;)
But it is just can't go wrong with PM, it is so classic and well rounded.
dude, just think about that Frank Sinatra wears BdP as a hint how it should be! ;-)
I have Chanel PM Concentree but told it is pretty much the same as the original. It is fantastic! I sold my blind buy Eau Savage because I couldn't accept its sharp lemony and...
Rive Gauche PH Intense.
Van Cleef & Arpels PH/Tsar
Bois du Portugal
Aha! now I remember. The "million dollar" comment was from YOU!
It smells true Luxury and elegance, yet fully masculline. The freshness, warmness, sweetness are blended almost perfectly.
Givenchy Gentlemen is truly an awesome fragrance. It resides in my TOP 5 firmly. The tobacco note is great without any dirty or dated smell. Along with other notes it just works wonder for me. ...
Tiffany for Men.
Fragrance is a relatively inexpensive hobby, comparing to, say, audio, watches, cars, or even photography. But the enjoyment, especially the ability to bring pleasure/delight or even happiness,...
Tried Santal Noble, smell myself like a carpenter right out of the work shop. It smells very natural, organic, and nice I guess, but a little too "realistic". I wouldn't be surprised if asked...
Awesome stuff! timeless, graceful, pleasant. NONE of the "false" perception of too formal, too dated, or too overpowering feel at...
Bois du Portugal
That's the beauty of Carven Homme. I have it side by side compared with Tiffany for Men, a true classic. While TfM is refined, complex, a bit of formal, and, yes, powerhouse. In comparison...
Why not try for sale section here on BN: http://community.basenotes.net/showthread.php?t=221260 ...;)
Where did you get them?
Carven Homme is much much better than Egoiste --- much fresher yet smooth, more pleasant sweetness but not cloying. The dry down (basenotes) is heavenly good. Hard to describe it.
Paco Rabanne pour Homme
Why all the trouble? Just don't take showers/change clothes for 7 days then go straight the a party. The effect is exactly the same, while you save money ( not buying MKK ), save water, save...
Carven Homme is AWESOME!!! A "new" classic indeed. It has all the niceness of classics but none of the shortcomings, e.g. too powdery, smell too dated, ... I love it. so much so I snagged...
